Wellness Plans a great deal

by Jessica C.

We have had both of our dogs on the Wellness plans since puppy-hood (the older dog is now almost 9 years old). We have always had good experiences with the staff at this location- they have been both knowledgeable and caring. Additionally we find the Wellness plans to be a great value. They give helpful reminders for services included in the plan- which to be honest, even though I care about the dogs, I probably would forget about scheduling some of the regular check-ups or would put it off if I did not have the plan and reminders. The Wellness Plans are similar to an insurance plan in that it provides for all of the necessary maintence care and gives discounts if additional care is needed (free office visits and heavily discounted rates on other work). We love our dogs and want to provide reasonable healthcare. For some with more money and time to spend, there may be more specialized solution out there. However for good healthcare that is affordable and easy to keep up with, this has been a great solution for us.

Great place to bring your pets

by Marta M.

I have been going to Banfield with my Buddy for about seven years. They have been wonderful to us and when we unfortunately lost Buddy in February they could not have been more caring to us. We now have a new puppy and he will also be going to Banfield and I feel confident he'll get the great treatment that Buddy received from them.

re: a banfield vet killed my dog unecessarily

by Gwen D.

She neglects to tell you the dog is about 13 years old and the mass removed was as big as a softball and had been there for many years and had gotten so big it drug the ground. The only reason they wanted it done is because it was dragging the ground to the point it was oozing all over the place. Had they chose to remove it many years ago it might have lived.

Decent vet, but too many vaccinations

by Jennifer O.

I brought my two dogs to Banfield for one year and signed up for their monthly care plan. The plan seems like a good deal for all the care you receive; the problem is that they give more vaccinations than necessary, so you save money on things you didn't even need to pay for in the first place -- so just going to a regular vet who is honest about the vaccinations your dog needs is a better option. For example, they give all the dogs bordatella -- but dogs only need that vaccine if they are boarded, which I never have done. Also, there were several other vaccines that my new vet said my dogs don't need becuase certain diseases are not even a problem in NC, yet Banfield regularly administered them to both my dogs. So... the vets are nice, but they make money on unnecessary care.

a Banfield vet killed my dog unecessarily

by Christina C.

On the morning of Jan 3rd we took our healthy little dachshund in for minor surgery to remove well-contained tumors from her abdomen. The surgery went fine, she was doing really well and in recovery by 11:30 the morning.

My father arrived to pick her up in the evening and the vet wrapped a bandage around her abdomen. What we didn't know was that he'd botched the surgery and there was some minor, superficial bleeding at the site. (We know this from having a necropsy done on her by the USDA off of Reedy Creek Rd for $30, please have this done if your pet dies unexpectedly at the hands of a vet) In an effort to cover up his mistake and apply pressure to the site, he wrapped an extra bandage around her chest and abdomen. He wrapped it so, so, so tightly. She was so heavily sedated that there was no sign of labored breathing.

He suffocated my dog to death.

She died within 5-7 minutes of leaving the hospital, an otherwise healthy and spunky dog that was fine after minor surgery. My mother discovered just how tight the bandage was when she tried to feel for a heartbeat and could not even get her finger under the stretchy material. This was after she thought our dog was sleeping on her lap only to discover she had been lying there, dead.

My panic-stricken parents brought her back to the vet. The doctor who did this said he "didn't mean to" and well, since he (my dad) was there would he like to have her cremated? You know, since they already took $900 to do the surgery what's a little more money to dispose of the evidence?

We don't believe he meant to do this, but we still wonder why he did this. But my sweet dog whom I've known for half of my life is just as gone as if he'd clubbed her.

Please spread the word about Banfield so that this happens less frequently

Caring doctors

by Lucy F. | insider Insider | Rank: 31,382

We brought our very sick cat (just adopted from the animal shelter) to Banfield and had a great experience. The two women doctors who took care of us were very caring and even threw in a few freebies (which we were grateful for since we were spending a fortune to get our new cat home). They also have great hours, open until 8 pm weekdays and also open on Saturday and Sunday. Perfect for the working pet owner.

Average staff and facility

by Brian M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,426

Banfield Pet Hospital is located within PetSmart. This allows for a very convenient location, but I don't think this is an optimal place to go to get your pet cared for. The staff is friendly enough, but in my past experiences at other vet offices, I don't feel that this has the same level of caring as those places. After I took my dog there for the initial check up, I found another vet office that I felt to be more inviting and my dog felt more comfortable.

Wellness Plan

by Leah H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 12,574

When I first got my cat, I took her to Banfield for her first exam, shots, etc.. I signed up for the Wellness plan and have been very pleased. This works like insurance for your pets. For a monthly fee, all normal yearly check ups , vaccines and shots are covered. You receive discounts on medicines and other services if needed. I really like having the piece of mind, that if I feel something is wrong with my cat I don't worry if I can afford it. I can always take her in and have her looked at. The monthly fee has only gone up one time in the four years that I have participated. I also like that they are open past 5:00 and on Saturdays.
