To say something positive first--there is a relatively wide selection of canned and frozen goods, and they carry the SmartChicken brand, which is great. However, fruits and veggies are generally of poor quality. Smells towards the front entrance of the store. Many of the items are overpriced. Additionally, some of the checkout people are incompetent, were not able to figure out how to apply a gift card towards the balance of the checkout bill.

Harris Teeter never fails to disappoint me. Yes, it's a fine place to stock up on canned goods and some of the basics, but I actually like grocery shopping, and expected more. It is really difficult to find fresh vegetables (and the near-rotting ones are always in the front so you really have to search), the cheese selection is pathetic (plus, there's no counter so you can't taste), the bakery is horrible, and the food is really expensive to boot! Unfortunately, many of us in the area are limited to this store. But if you can, go to the new EarthFare off of 15-501and experience real grocery shopping.
