Finding a classy restaurant for a night out in Minot can be quite the challenge! Minot has cycled through hundreds of failed restaurants in the past year, and it seems that unless you're a large chain or a cheap fast food joint, you simply can't make it in this environment. Michaels, however, is markedly different!

Beginning in a humble setting in Oak Park Shopping Center, Michael (Mike) Mosser and his family started Michaels in 2002. An Itallian/American place, Michaels has an excellent variety of Pasta's, Steaks, Burgers, Wraps, Seafood, and American Cuisine. Entree's can be spendy, but the portions are generous and all pastas and steaks come with soup/salad and your choice of two generous sides. The Portions are huge!

I was most impressed by the fact that all of the meats are handcut every day and all of the sauces for the pasta are made in house. As opposed to Applebees or Ground Round...even Up the Creek, Michael's does not ship their steaks or burgers in frozen...but they are always fresh.

The service at Michaels was great! Servers are not rushed like they are at the restaurants out by the mall, and the food was well worth the 25-35 minute wait. The bread served before the food comes is heavenly! We took some pieces home!

Michaels has a full bar and wine list, with some excellent examples of Australian and the Finest European wines. Climbing Merlot, Kim Crawford, Jordan Chardonnay, there is a wine and a price level for everyone from the house Mondavi to the finest Rieslings and Cabernet Savignons.

All in All, Michaels was a terrific place to eat and enjoy a truly unique restaurant. They are currently located at 515 20th Avenue in the Commercial Center with Bootleggrz, ATA Fitness, and The Harley Shop just east of K-Mart. Give this place a try before you even think about blowing $40 at a chain diner on fried appetizers and lifeless entrees.

Pros: Quiet Atmosphere, Great Cool In-House tempereatures, Generous Portions, Romantic!

Cons: Strange location...food can take a while to get out...
