I have seen the Retromantics 3 times at local events such as the Haymarket Farmers Market, since they have been playing in Lincoln for about 12 years. They are Great! They play pop music from the 1920's through the 1960's on 4 keyboards. It's really neat to see them playing two instruments each. John usually is playing a baseline on one keyboard plus another instrument (rhythm) on his other keyboard. He also sets the drum beats. Peggy plays all sorts of instruments on her keyboards, from fiddle to banjo to brass, and she also plays parts of the original arrangements from written original folios. They sing the most beautiful harmonies I have ever heard locally, featuring such groups as the Everly Bros. They use some recorded big band swing music, taking the opportunity to ballroom dance for the crowd during instrumental bridges when they're not singing. The show is so varied, including early rock and roll, classic country and top artists in numerous genres. John does a fabulous Elvis, not dressing like Elvis, but sounding like him more than any other Elvis impersonator I have ever heard. I heartily recommend them for even very small venues (banquets, conference entertainment, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.) because their price ($150 for a one-hour show) is so reasonable.
