Pitts Vet Hospital is one of best in Lincoln, NE

by D Z.

I have been going to Pitts (all the vets are very good) for 20 years and have had great experience with all (14 dogs and several fosters) the vets. They are very thorough in explaining and educationing you on your pet's condition. In one case I was referred to the vet school in Manhattan, KS and it saved my dog's life and she lived 6 more years. I do not feel they are more expensive than other vets; in fact, I originally moved to them because of the excessive expenses of another vet facility. I recommend Pitts to all my friends and co-workers.

I board, when out of town and can't take pets, my dogs and two of them have been special needs and they received GREAT GREAT care and I feel the staff are very well trained and truly love animals.

Family

by Cassi B.

My parents use to breed Irish Wolfhounds for over 20 years, I never had a childhood memory without our dogs. My husband and i take our dogs there and my dad still takes his dogs there, he will not go anywhere else. They may be a little pricy but you dont want a cheap job when its your family member's health involved. I wouldnt trust anyone else but Pitts.

Great emergency care

by ZanyDaney P.

My Great Dane bloated late one evening, and the vet told us to bring him in right away. After an x-ray to confirm that his stomach was twisted, I was provided with my options and chose to have surgery to save his life.

The operation took two hours and lasted well into the early morning. I am very pleased with the care he received, and although the surgery was expensive, they allowed me to make payments over time.

Great care for my Great Dane! Highly recommended.

Cat lover

by Alenia L.

My family has 2 spoiled cats that have been going to Pitt's since they joined our family. My female was adopted in 1992 and in 2002 was diagnosed with thyroid problems. Many cats as they age can suffer from this problem that could lead to kidney failure. Dr. Bill was great and explained all of our options. We were refereed to Manhattan Kansas (K State) and our cat received radio active iodine treatment. She had this treatment 4 years ago and is still doing great. Dr. Bill gave us all our options and making the investment in her treatment paid off. Pills would have cost us more than the treament. We love Pitt's!

Avoid boarding and Dr. Terry Pitts

by Ashlie L.

We boarded our two high need cats here for over a week. I went in a month ahead of time to ask if the vets could handle boarding the animals and their special needs and also gave full medical histories for both of the cats. Upon dropping off the cats, I gave a typed out sheet with details regarding their medical conditions and also explained to the person all about them. While we were gone, one of the cats had a medical crisis and they did not call us. We only found out because they billed us for x-rays. When I asked what this was for the lady from back told the front desk person, "Oh that was supposed to be taken off--they weren't supposed to see that." It was only after that conversation was overheard did we ask further questions and found out that the cat had severe problems. When we scheduled a meeting with the owner of the clinic he told us he assumed that this condition or problem was a normal or everyday problem-- even though I kept telling him that I told the vet we saw a month earlier that it was not, told the person we dropped the cats off with that it was not, and also had written on a sheet of care directions that our cat did not have this problem(peeing straight blood) all of the time. He kept saying that he was under the impression that it was a chronic problem--not taking any responsibility for the breakdown of communication among his staff or even apologizing for not calling or for his staff trying to hide that something went wrong during the stay(which in essence was not even their fault---or was it since they didn't want to tell us?). At the very end of the conversation when it became clear that there was going to be no apology, he stated that if we really cared about our animals--we should have called. Funny, we were under the impression that was their job if anything went wrong--of course, seeing as how they tried to hide that anything went wrong to begin with, I doubt we would have got the truth if we called. If truth and integrity are important in your business dealings and with the care of your fuzzy loved ones, I would search out an alternative to Pitts.

PROS: lots of appt times
CONS: communication among many staff is lacking leaving animal care to fail

Pitts Veterinary Hospital PC

by Diana L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,321

If your pet is like a member of your family, and you want to make sure it gets the very best medical care possible in Lincoln, Pitts Veterinary Hospital is the place to go. When I got my dog, I didn't want to take any chances with her veterinary care, so I asked around, and I kept hearing how great Pitt's was. I've been taking pets there for 16 years, now. The doctors are well trained and up-to-date in the latest medical veterinary techniques. My dogs have never been afraid to go there. The doctors are very gentle, have a great bedside manner for humans and animals alike.

PROS: Expert, up-to-date veterinary care
CONS: A little pricey but it's worth it.
