I received a Groupon to Scruples for Christmas from my sister-in-law who lives out of town. When I called and spoke with Christy, she asked me if I had already called and left a message. I said no. She then took my last name and phone number and asked me when I wanted to come in. I said as soon as possible. She then told me that would be a problem because she was booked past Valentine's day. The first appointment she would have would be on 2/20, she said - almost 2 weeks away. At that point, I said I might want to book out further since I needed to get my nails done before then. She then said that the Groupon was only good for an original set. I wasn't sure what she meant cause I don't have acrylics. She said that if I came in with shellac on my nails, there was an extra charge for her to remove it. Ridiculous! I feel bad not using the Groupon but I was really looking forward to this and now it just seems like such a hassle. Very disorganized. Not helpful. Misrepresentation of the Groupon.

I had purchased a manicure off groupon. I called Christy to make an appointment with her and the number I called was her personal number, not the business number. She didn't have anything available until after Jan. 1st, which I think it's crap to have to wait that long! She is unprofesional and this place is known to have horrible service. Save your time and money. I'm returning my groupon coupon!

I also had a groupon disaster with this salon. I'm writing this review because I saw that she is doing the groupon again, which I cannot believe since I had such a terrible experience. I bought a groupon for a mani/pedi for a friend and I. It was afterwards that I realized there was only one tech, but this was my own fault and we decided we would deal with it and it wasn't a big deal. I too thought that the idea of having to call and speak to the tech personally was bad service. Why wouldn't they just have someone taking appointments for them? I left a voicemail on her personal cell phone and when she called back, there was nothing available for over a month out. I called back a couple weeks later and after some more phone tag, I finally got an appointment for both my friend and I. On the day of the appointment, my friend and I showed up 15 minutes early for what we thought was the scheduled time. Supposedly we were 15 minutes late by this time. The tech had left to go get groceries since we were a "no show." Who knows whose fault it was regarding the miscommunication of time. Regardless, why wouldn't she have called to ask if we were on our way before deciding to head out and run her personal errands? Or had she practiced good business etiquette, she would have called the day before to confirm the time. I'm always on time or early for these kinds of things, and even with the miscommunication of time we would have only been 15 minutes late and she still could have got the job done before her next appointment. However, because she failed to call and just decided that after 10 minutes we must not be coming so why not leave, it was not going to work. She was rude on the phone and was not at all apologetic for the miscommunication, even though I was and shouldn't have been. She said she would give me a call to reschedule, but she was at the store with a full grocery cart and it would give us a call back. My friend and I left and went to Mohegans on 108th and Maple. I emailed groupon and told them about the ordeal and they told me they would prefer I tried to work it out with the salon. I told them had she been more organized and polite I would have, but due to her attitude I would be very uncomfortable giving her business. They refunded my groupon and gave me 100% credit to put towards another groupon. I would say that was the only positive part of this entire fiasco and it was still a waste of time, something I will never get back. I wouldn't bother with this place, groupon or not. On the other hand, Nails R Us on 168th and Dodge is wonderful!

I bought a groupon for a shellac manicure. Had to call the manicurist personally. Got a voicemail. After some phone tag, talked to her and she told me she was very busy because of the groupon. Said she would have to call me back. Called me several days later and left a voicemail telling me when SHE was available, not when I might want to come. Then I was out of town and as trying to contact someone an eighth time to redeem a groupon was not my priority, the groupon expired.

I called this salon and was told I had to call a stylist's personal phone to make an appointment(weird) so I left her a voicemail which was never returned. I called again the next time I needed a cut- many times with no answer. A stylist finally answered and basically told me she doesn't just to a cut without color and that she was booked up for 6 weeks. The stylist I talked to wasn't very friendly either. Just a little bit too much work as a customer to reach these people, let alone get something done! What if I actually had got something done and wanted to go back, I would never be able to get a hold of someone. If you still want to go there, good luck reaching them!

Jennifer who owns and operates the salon is probably the best colorist in the city. I get nothing but compliments on my hair and how NATURAL it looks. Most people do not now that I color my hair, thanks Jen

I always go to Jill. She is awesome and always does an amazing job on my hair. She doesn't charge an arm and a leg either. ($55 for highlight, low lights and cut!) Beware though, not all of the stylists there charge the same prices. It is not the "trendiest" place, but Jill is young, friendly and adorable and she does an incredible job!!!

Scruples is my all time favorite place to go for an awesome haircut. I've always gone to Jill, and she is excellent! I moved a year ago and still haven't found a replacement. They have great prices, $55 for cut, color, highlights, and style. Its a relaxed, friendly atmoshpere, not snotty at all. It's not a fancy place, but I prefer it over all else.
