It's nice to save animals lives, if this place actually did it. It's easier and cheaper to euthanize animals so they prefer that method. As a former volunteer I would never recommend going here or donating money. Once you learn what actually goes on your perspective will change.

Aweful experience. Upon arriving it looked very nice, but looks can be deceiving. Once we met the staff behind the desk everything was different. My six year old son and I showed up there about an hour after my puppy escaped. They never called me even though her name, my name and phone number were all on her tags. The staff behind the front desk was extremely rude from the time I walked in. Then the woman behind the desk looked at me very seriously and said "Here is the bad news about your dog". My heart immediately sank and I could see too that my son was so worried. After quite a long pause the woman says "Oh, your dog is fine but you'll have to pay $365.00 to get her out". I was stunned that she would approach a worried pet owner like that. I seriously, briefly thought by her tone and demeanor that my dog was injured.
I actually mentioned to her how alarming she sounded. She then just continued her rudeness, maybe even accelerated. Her supervisor was equally as unpleasant. I never saw a smile the whole hour I was there.
To me coming to retrieve a lost animal should be a pleasant experience. You have just found a lost member of your family. My son & I walked in ecstatic to have our sweet Black Lab back but walked out an hour later feeling stumped at the ordeal we had just been through.
I will never set foot back in that place...ever.

I have adopted 3 furchildren from NHS and although there was a wait for one it was worth it. I was so impressed by the NHS facilities and staff that I signed up to volunteer there. I have been there over a year now and look forward to going every day. The people there are wonderful, helpful and deeply caring about all their animals. I have been to other shelters and in comparison NHS is far and away the most awesome.

The Nebraska Humane Society has some of the nicest people working there. They take the time to talk to you about the pet you want, and go to great lengths to make sure that you find the perfect fit. Although we didn't adopt a pet the last time we were there, we left feeling very positive that the dog that is perfect for us is still out there.
The facility is just beautiful - it is a newer building. Parking is great, and the whole experience is positive.
