I purchased a ford escort in late 12/07 and less than a week discovered that the car was getting excessively poor gas mileage, I could also hear a clicking noise on the right side of the vehicle which i overlooked when i initially purchased the car. Roughly two weeks later I took the car into a repair shop and discovered that the cars ball joint on the lower right side was going out and that the mileage issue was caused by poor alignment due to the bad ball joint. Also they told me that the vehicle had deposits all throughout the fuel intake, which i payed 150 dollars to fix. I made this repair first because i could not afford to fuel up 3-4 (no kidding)times in a week.I wasn't upset about this repair but i was angry that the car was unsafe to drive due to the balljoint. I live paycheck to paycheck and between the repair i could afford at the time, plates, sales tax and insurance along with other bills I was broke. I contacted sonny gerber when i first discovered the issue and they were unwilling to replace the car with a different one or repair the damage. I spoke with the sales agent later after completing the first repair, and advised him that due to the 400+ cost of repairs that i would need the first payment rolled into the next month. the salesman told me that he would take care of it with the billing dept.and I assumed that this was a done deal. I was a week late with what I though was my first payment in late febuary and was suprised to find the car missing in the morning. Not once did i recieve a phone call or any letter in the mail advising me of a delinquent balance. they claim that they sent a certified letter but i never recieved it. After explaining the situation with the billing dept. I told them that I can pay the full amount due on the car inspite of my agreement with the salesman but that I could not afford the 250 dollar repo fee, I even offered to pay part of this amount up to 100 dollars which is the maximum amount of money i had without crippling myself for the month financially. I live 6 blocks away from the dealership and they own their own towing vehicle, so i didn't think my request was unreasonable. For several months I have been terrified that the ball joint would break and cause an accident. I do have financial problems but I did pay off my previous car with them and try my best, although I sometimes fall behind temporarily. Although I concede that the repo was due to my own irresponsiblity because i would have been a week late even with the agreement, the car issues were not my fault. I was delinquent primarily because of the repair that i did make, because i had initially budgeted that as my car payment. If you purchase a vehicle from these crooks and discover later that the vehicle is not only in poor shape but unsafe to drive, this dealership will be unwilling to do anything. I now have no car, will probably need to fork out money for another vehicle and am attempting to arbitrate with the attorney general and the better business bureau. More than likely I will end up with my wages being garnished. I've gone from paycheck to paycheck to financial ruin.
