To all who are attempting to do business with Sportsman Trading, do yourself the biggest favor and RUN, as fast as you can. Do not buy anything from this POS. If you call him looking for a gun, he will tell you that he has it in his warehouse, or that he can get it right away. Instead of only charging a deposit, he will charge your card the full amount for the gun and then give you every excuse under the sun as to why the gun did not arrive when it should have. If he does have a gun in stock, he will tell you one price over the phone, but charge a different price when you get to the store. All of his ammo is totally overpriced, and he comes up with the prices off the top of his head. No prices are listed on any of the boxes, so depending on what day it is, it could be a completely different price than it was last week. He claims he has the best prices around, which is completely untrue. After waiting 16 days for the gun, a refund was requested and he has a total attitude and is completely unprofessional, even going so far as to call the customer a vulgar name, as he is hanging up the phone when he thinks you can't hear him.

Had to give one star to write this review, but if I could have, I would have given zero!

I had inherited a colt 1911 from 1961 in the box with the receipt in the box I knew nothing of the value of the pistol I told al I wanted to trade it for something more concealable he pulled out a model 97 ruger not much smaller but newer and shiny I fell for his sales pitch brought the gun to the range and began to tell my story. I came to realize I had been had my new gun was 300 in value, the colt was closer to 1500.00 in value. It is my fault for not being educated on the matter. But I feel like he scammed me. I can't wait to see him out and about.

Can I give zero stars? Unfortunately not.
Add another victim to the list. I'm a first time gun buyer and I guess I'm the kind of person that keeps this guy in business.
The sales clerk was very helpful and showed me several handguns. I left the store and went home to do some research. Figured out which one I wanted and called back 2 days later. I got a price on a Glock 19 and was happy. Was going to pick it up later that day. Gave some information to expedite the sale. Got a call later saying that they'd have a Gen4 the next day for $100 more. I thought I was getting a Gen4 already. I hung up and thought and decided to cancel the entire sale. (Little did I know but the guy ALREADY ran my credit card which I thought was just being used to hold the gun for my purchase.)
When I called back to cancel the whole thing, he said he could give me a lower price $50 cheaper because the gun was bought for Law Enforcement. He bought it for less so he could sell it for less. (Doesn't seem legal if you ask me, but I'm a newbie.) Anyway --- I got a good gun but was jerked around and hated every minute I was talking to Al. The sales clerk was great though. Wish he worked somewhere else.

First off IM new to the area and did not know that this was the slime ball gun dealer all my local coworkers warned me about. After shopping around town I poke into this store looking for ammo and a new AR I asked about 308 ammo he then said I just got some great 308 ammo cheap too "short money" he called it. he then placed brown bear ammo on the counter. Ok brown bear is cheap ammo but good is is pushing it. I asked the price he said 25.00 a box of 20 (retail on BB308 is 7 - 8 a box) so I passed on that. I notice a scar on the rack I asked him the price of that he said 2900. I said for a light. he try to tell me no one had them. FYI i was at reilys on friday they had them on the wall for 2400 i think? I said reily's does he said they want 3400 for there light. I called reily's yep they have then and no its not 3400 there 17s is only 2800. I told him that was rielys and its 2400 for the light NIB he said I can do better then that how about 1995.95 for a light he said yeah ok he got me interested so I asked about a the 17s he said I have them for 2700 and I have mags for them too but there not cheap. unless you live under a rock you know scar 17s mags are super hard to get and people known to charge up to 150 per mag. so i asked him how much he said I can do a scar 17s for 2800. (100 more then he said earlier) and 100 for each mag more.
ok scar mags at 100 bucks is not cheap but only having one mag sucks and given the fact nobody has them in NH nib.
So i asked do you have this in stock. he said yep right here in the store. So i said ok he ask mehow many mags you want. I said 3 he said I can do only two because he been selling scar 17s all day and only has two mags left.
So he sets the scar box on the counter and places a fnh scar mag on top and saids that will be 3200 dollars
I said wait theres two things wrong with what you just said first your math is wrong, he said 2900 for the scar and a 150 for each mag that 3200 even.

I said wait you said 2700 for it 5 mins ago and 100 for each mag and oh by the way that a scar 16s mag not a 17s mag and thats only one mag
he said thats the right mag and your getting two mags theres one in the box
I said wait your charge me for the mag that come with that gun.
he tried to tell me he orders them from the fnh with a mag no no else gets them with a mag. Total BS if comes with one mag from FNH.

I suggest that you avoid this place at all cost. There are three good gun stores on the same street as him that are fair and offer better value then his store. Plus 3 more shops within 15 miles of his store they all will offer better customer service and prices him.

I didn't buy a gun for him nor will I ever...
Here my list of Alan reedy lies and lines I heard today
"oh I have that in my warehouse can have it to you in two days"
"he is only selling it to pay a bill"
"I have a friend over there that can hook me up"
"I sell millions in firearms each year"
"Im best friends with the chief of police"
"I've been in gun business for over 40 years"
"I sold cars for 25 years"
"i was worth 5 million dollars be for i was old enough to drink"
"I sell more Glocks then any other store in all of New England"
"Ammo prices are going up"
"I loaned owner of manchester firing line 100,000 this week to keep his business a float"

This comes from being in his shop for less then an hour WHAT A TOTAL POS ..... I dont know who to feel sorry for they people who buy stuff from him and get butt raped by him in the process or his family if he has one (would not shock me if he didn't or the felt him) because I dont think he can shut the BS-o-matic off (aka his mouth and the lies)

Al reedy sells used guns at new gun prices and tells you there new when there not. This old man is a crook.

I wish I had known about these reviews before I went into the Sportman's Trading CO. A month ago on a Friday, I stopped in to see if Sportsman's had a S&W Bodyguard 380. There was one in the case. Al gave me a price that I agreed to since this pistol is hard to find. He said he could have transfered to a MA gun shop and that he had a special arrangement so that there would be NO $40 transfer fee. He also said that he would mark the sale slip less than what I paid so that the sales tax would be less. AFTER the sale was made he said he would have to get from the warehouse and I would have it by the next Wednesday. He NEVER said anything about needing to get it in before we made the sale. I wish I had cancelled the sale right then and there. After calling him (AL) every week to see where the pistol was, I kept getting one BS story after another as to why it wasn't in yet. Finally it came in and when I went to get it, I was told there was a $50 transfer fee and the sale slip was NOT marked sown as low as AL said it would be. I WILL NEVER STEP INTO THIS STORE AGAIN. Al is full of BS and a lier. He should not be in business. I belong to a large sportsmans club and will be sure to inform all the members this guys lousy business ethics.

Wow....lots of bad reviews! I've purchased two pistols at this place, a Walther and a Glock...both prices were better or as good than I could find at other shops in the area and both were delivered on time as promised. Honestly, I cannot report anything negative about my buying experience from this shop. I have another Glock coming in today and will report back if my experience is any different.

Made the mistake of buying a firearm there and I'll keep this as brief as I can. I admit I didn't do my homework and check store reviews before buying there and deserve what I got but it shouldn't be that way. Owner tries takes advantage by over-charging plus an over-inflated ego. I've found some gun stores over-inflated egos are very common and I expect it when I walk in but the owner of this store sets the standard for BS. Not only over-paid for the firearm but it needed to be ordered (the firearm was a standard configuration) and that turned into a drama despite being reassured at the time of purchase it would be 5 days for delivery which took 2.5 weeks. Told me he was well connected and if I had any warranty issues to bring the firearm back to him (that will not happen). Based on my purchase experience and the other reviews, I'll never set foot in there again and if you do, please do your research on your firearm choice and price or, better yet, go elsewhere.

It's been a long time since I been in the place and had a bad dealing with the place in the pass. But what the hell I was only looking to buy brown bear ammo cheap stuff and coworker said he carries the stuff. I walked into the store and first thing I see is a young guy behind the counter and he asked can I help you with any thing? looking for any thing or just shopping? And for those who shop there befor that's a change of pace. So I explain that I'm looking for brown bear ammo he gets me two boxes. Tells Al to ring me up and he does. Im about to head out and I see a 1911 and the young man pulls it out and show it to me. He answers my questions I ask the price and seems fare and i like his no pressure style so I buy the gun. I get home and look up the gun and find it priced very fare about 50 dollars under what it goes for online. So I think I'll shop there more offen or at least when the young guy working.

This place sucks, I should have researched the shop first. I went to buy a gun case. I told him I have to try it and bring it back if it doesnt fit my gun He said OK. It didnt fit. I brought it back the next morning and he said he has a no return policy. HE IS A Crook. He made up all kinds of lies why he doesnt return gun cases. However If I wanted to buy one from him that was several hundreds of dollars more he would take it back and refund my money toward the higher overpriced one. What a scam. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP. THE OTHER REVIEWS DONT LIE.

As a new shooter I found out after making my purchases from the large slick talking man at Amherst NH's Sportsman's Trading Co that I was charged much more that retial price. I verifid this on line and at two other gun shops. I feel very ripped off and have no other recourse that to warn other shoppers. Price check before you spend a penny at this store.

Not only do I feel stuipd for buying from this jerk, I should have read reviews first. I only look for them to post since I am so pissed, now I see that's normal for this jerk.

The only reason I give this place one star is because I can't put zero stars. This man (Al) is a liar and quite likely a thief. I went in with the intention of ordering a set of see-through scope caps. I paid for them in full using my debit card. I was given a lead time of one week after I was told they were in stock with his supplier. When I called a week and a half later, I was told by him that shipment was delayed due to an unforeseen weather event. A week after that, I was told that the items were still not received at his shop. I let ANOTHER week go by, visit the store to pick them up, thinking, well, it's been three weeks, they're in by now. Guess what? Still not in. I could have ordered online and received them in 10 or so days. So much for supporting your local business man, eh? It doesn't end there, either. I inform him that since he hasn't yet provided me with the merchandise, I'd like my debit card credited. He then goes on to tell me that he can't do that, didn't know how (WHAT?), and that his wife takes care of things like that, and maybe I should come back Monday or Tuesday when she is there and she'll handle it then.
Well, that's when I informed him, using the drill sergeants voice that if he could take my money with one swipe of the card, he sure as hell can credit it, and that I wasn't leaving the store without my card being credited. It was only then that he got his fat ass out of his chair, took my card and got it done.
PATRONIZE THIS ESTABLISHMENT AT YOUR OWN RISK!
DO NOT GIVE THIS GUY ANY MONEY UNLESS YOU ARE BRINGING YOUR PURCHASE OUT THE DOOR WITH YOU!
I don't understand how this guy can still be in business.

I??m deeply saddened by my experience with Sportsman??s Trading Co in Amherst, NH. I don??t really check online to find out if stores are worthy to do business with. I??m sure everyone has different experience. I??m sharing mine because I feel that in my opinion Al and his store Sportsman??s Trading Co. in Amherst, NH shouldn??t be in business and is giving every other gun store a bad name. With his poor people skills and overall slimy tactics I am shocked that he is still in business given today??s economy. Story to follow.

So I??m looking for a Glock 34. Outside of real need to work on trigger control and accuracy issues I feel that getting a Glock 34 for IDPA matches will help me overcome those shortcomings. I have been on the casual hunt for one since February and I have called a bunch of local stores wanting to buy locally. Found one in a showcase at Sportsman??s Trading Co in Amherst, NH but the proprietor, Al said I couldn??t hold it because it was sold. A friend was able to get the serial number of the Glock on the shelf because, without being able to touch it, he wanted to know when it was manufactured. Serial number started with KUL. Had I been able to buy it then I would have on the spot.

With no luck locally I continued on shooting matches my Ruger SR9. About a month ago I did so poorly in a match I got back on the bandwagon for getting the Glock. Called around every store I could find in tri-state area looking for one with no luck. Even tried ordering one online again nothing immediate in stock I was a bit bummed. The same friend that got the serial number of the Glock in the showcase had decided to get a Glock 34 himself and paid in full to buy one from Sportsman??s Trading Co. Al told him that he has one at the warehouse and he will get it shipped to the store in a couple of days. A week goes by and on Friday night my friend calls and the response was ??It is on the truck?. Ok, that would hopefully get his gun by Monday. The following week, no gun yet. After three weeks, Al told him that it was at the distribution center on its way again. Meanwhile, I??m hot and heavy for a Glock 34 so I asked my friend to ask Al if there were two and the response was ??I will get it here in a matter of days? so I??m all excited about getting a gun that will fix all my issues magically for shooting competitions. Two weeks later , with no gun in sight finally my friend cancelled his order with Al but to call him when the Glock(s) do come in because there are several people that are looking for one, including myself. Al proceeded to try to sell him the Glock that was in the case, then tried to get him to call me to buy the one in the case. I wasn??t interested in the gun because I had felt that there was a new gun on the way and why would I want to buy something that he wasn??t willing to sell me months before?

While driving from the range last night I asked my friend if he had heard anything, since it had been two weeks. He immediately called the store to ask and found out that yes the guns had come in but he promptly sold one and had one left so I was hopeful again. Al called back within 5 minute to add that if I wanted the gun that I should buy it soon because there was another person interested it but he would sell it to me first if I came in soon. Red flags went up in my head after that call, especially since nothing this man has said in the past really panned out. I ended up calling the store the next day and said I was interested in the Glock 34 but I wanted to know the serial number of it so I could check the date, recalls, generations before I stepped into the store. He would only give me one letter, ??M? stating that he doesn??t give up serial numbers of guns over the phone. I pressed for at least the next two letters to narrow down my search on the date. After what seemed like a very long time haggling over two letters he gave me the phone number to Glock so I can check the date and then told me the three letters ??KUL?. ??But you just said ??M??, you sure you have the right one?? ??Yes, I have my glasses on, KUL.?

In short: The man and the business, Sportsman??s Trading Co in Amherst, NH, are dishonorable in every sense of the word.

On my first visit, Al angrily yelled at me to wipe my feet upon entering. I looked at a few handguns, got a price of $550 for one that particularly interested me. Another customer came in and got to speaking with Al. I wasn't quite ready to buy, so I walked out. Al literally ran out into the parking lot yelling that he could give me the gun for $495. I ended up getting it somewhere else for $450.

On my second visit I picked up two holsters, one marked $20 and the other, smaller and less fancy, unmarked. He rang up $45 for the two, which seemed odd since the second should have been more like $15. I gave him a quizzical look and he immediately mumbled something about pressing the wrong key and said the total was now $35. I didn't think much of it at the time, thinking it was just a mistake, but after reading the other comments I realize I was almost a victim myself.

Dealing with Sportsman's Trading Co. is a hit or miss experience, with most being a miss.

My fist dealing with Al was for a Ruger 10/22 carbine with synthetic stock. He was about $40 cheaper than other places I priced the rifle at. One week delivery, everything is fine.

I put a deposit down on a 22lr AA conversion kit for my Glock 17. He told me it would be about 4 weeks for delivery. I go back 4 weeks later and he said it would probably be another 12 weeks to get it in. He showed me an ISSC M22 Pistol that looks like a Glock 19 with an exterior hammer and safety. It looks good to me so I put down the extra $$ for it. Asked him to get me two mor Mags for it also. I did some checking once I got home. He charged me $50 over MSRP and $100 over another local dealer's price. Upon showing him the price difference he stated that he must have seen the other models MSRP and gave me a $50 store credit. I asked for som CCI mini-Mags. He picked up three 100 rd boxes and put on the counter. I asked him how much they were and he stated around $14/box. I told him I just bought some at Wally World for $6.49/box. He reluctantly gave me two more boxes. The Extra Mags were over priced too. Pretty much screwed me over on that one. PS: I bought 4 mags for the AA Conversion during the wait. No good to me right now.

I did a small favor for him and he said he would make it up to me in ammo or such. I stopped by to get a .223 chamber brush. He didn't have any at that time,But "they were coming in". I have been looking at a Saiga 12 shotgun so I asked him what he could get me one for. He called his Distributor and gave me a price of $480 and he could have it there by Christmas. I know the online price was going for $480-$500 plus shipping and transfer fees.

I called him two days later to have him order it. I gave him a CC# for a $100 Deposit and said I would be in two days after that to pay cash for the whole sale. Well the gun wasn't in yet. I paid for the whole sale price and said for him to credit me back the $100 he charge to my CC#. A week later and the CC has not been credited and the rifle has not arrived either. I put in a dispute with my CC company to reverse the charges. I called other dealers for price and availability. One said $550, the other that had some in stock quoted $650. So here I sit waiting.

On one positive note, I needed to put a set of tires on my truck and he knew the store manager and got me $70 off the set.

I think this will be my last time dealing with Al at Sportsman's Trading Co.

When will people learn to steer clear of this place?
This guy is pure poison. With this many reviews,it's a wonder how he still operates with enough business to pay his bills???

I saw an ad saying that he was a Glock Distributor and his prices would beat any other store. OK-I'm in!
I get there on Friday afternoon, and was the only one in the store. Nice dog walks over, when the owner yells at me to wipe my feet before coming in.

When I ask about a Glock, the price is $599.99!! I ask if this is with night sights and he says " hell no, those are $200.00 more"
I ended up at the shooting range in Manchester, NH and purchased the Glock for 479.95 + $90.00 for the trijicon night sights installed. They were having a sale, but the regular price was $519.95 and they have Glock trained armorers there. As all the others have said here " don't do business with this clown"

Unfortunatley I have done business with Sportsman's Trading Company, my first mistake was clearly on me. I had already purchased two pistols from another store in the area a Ruger super blackhawk 44mag in mint condition and a semi used Sig P229 which I paid 500 apiece, I was in the market to trade them for a glock and recalled Sportsman's Trading Company being a Glock distributer. I asked the store owner if he did trade ins, which was clear to me at the time that this wasn't going to be pleasant. He told me that even If i traded the weapons in there was no way he'd let me have the Glock 22. 40cal without putting alittle cash down on it. As you can imagine I was fustrated but I had no need for so many pistols and made a deal to pay $100bucks on top of 2 pistol trade in for 1 Glock 22. 40cal.... I tried not to think about it much after and went home. In 2009 I bought a Glock 19 from the same shop, but this time he couldnt sell directly to me becuase my residency changed to Oklahoma so we agreed that I'd buy the gun if he paid the transfer fee of $75 Dollars, lets just say after a week I got a call from the store ownder that he needed the $75 for shipping..... I threw my hands up, and asked about our "agreement" and he said he couldn't do it... Now most of these mistakes were my fualt, I should have done my research and I was a impulsive buyer. I suggest you read the forums, do the research before you walk into his shop. Every dealer I'v ever met can be talked down in price, most of these guys dont do well in sales and must make up for it in boosting prices so walk in set a price and leave, they will stop you at the door and work the numbers, just like a car dealeship. Hope this helps

I don't agree with those here who complain about having paid too much. He has every right to charge whatever he can get, and you have every right (and responsibility) to do your own price research before you whip your wallet out.

That said, the man has no customer skills and will screw you out of a nickel. He doesn't care about return business, apparently.

My god I don't know how this company continues to operate! This is the most dishonest firearms dealer I've ever met in my entire life. As others clearly said: STAY AWAY

The two good reviews were surely made by the owner

Purchased a hand gun from the owner. Unfamiliar with gun prices, he saw me coming. He said he had some 'special inventory' he just picked up at a show. I fell for it and it turns out I paid $100 over list for the gun. The owner is a complete rip-off artist. Avoid this place!

I went in not too long ago interested in buying a shotgun. he kicked me out of his store saying it was illegal to sell me a handgun because i was under 21 and wasn't interested in selling any shotguns. i would refuse to go in the parking lot if it wasn't for a great bakery next door.

To claim that "nobody, but nobody, can beat our prices" is the worst statement than could ever be made by this company. He clearly rates himself here on many post under assumed names.

The lastest misleading entry was that his prices are better than Riley's or Manchester Firing Line. I bought my Glock at the Manchester range for $529.95 and recieved an upgrade of a free slide release worth around $17.00 Night sights were also installed as I waited! They also informed me that if the firearm ever breaks, they would fix or replace it on the spot.

Availability, service & customer service at MFL is the best i've ever had in the firearms industry.

Riley's and the Manchester indoor range has everything one could be looking for. Both of the above has different things I need, and I shop both. My experience with STC in Amherst has never been anything but a total waist of time, filled with lies about warehouses in Mass. and delays from distributors causing long waits. Read the reviews, and make wise choices before spending your money anywhere.

I've never met a bigger crook at a gun store! This large man sat on a stool and bashed a few of the largest dealers in NH as he pumped himself up at the same time. Prices were higher than anyone in the state. He expressed his dislike for Riley's and The Manchester Firing Range, two places I've been too and felt were the best I've ever been in. I guess it's the stress of knowing that those two are better. Please stay away for your own good.

THIS GUY IS THE BIGGEST CROOK ON THE PLANEThe sells guns for hundreds of dollars more than MSRP,if you are dumb enough to buy from this guy He always told me what a good friend I was so I made the terrible mistake of trusting himfor about a year.Than I started hearing other customers getting mad as hell about guns that were on order for over a year ,and he always charges up frontsometimes thousands of your hard earned dollarssit in his bank account for guns that never showe up till you are a grey haired old man or woman. He use to brag about how much he overcharged for guns and ammo, and finally I realized I was one of the suckers he was always bragging about screwing.I figure that in the course of the 3 years I was dumb enough to do business with him ,and I bought a lot of guns that this crook overcharged me at least $8000.00I know exactly what my guns cost now because I have a Federal firearm License which allows me to buy guns wholesale.I amm not using my company name so people wont think I am just trying to take his business away, stay away from this guy at all cost!!!

on nov 13 2009 i went into the sportsmans trading company on 101a in Amherst NH with the intentions of purchasing 2 boxes of .380 ammo, one box of 50 target rounds (90 grain full metal jacket) and one box of 20 red dot (95 grain hollow point)the owner and i believe it to be his wife was there behind the counter area. the owner proceeded to get the ammo and place it on the counter at which time i wanted to take a look at the holsters. after finding a holster i asked him to ring the 3 items up at which time he told me the total was something just over $100, I questioned the total as the holster was $14 but the boxes of ammo did not have any price on them. I have purchased rounds in the past from many different businesses and have a good idea of what the pricing should be. he proceeded to tell me that the gold dot were $53 dollars a box, I didn't even hear what the price on the target rounds were at that point as I knew the price I just heard was more than double of what it should be. after telling him that that was too high and that i have seen them cheaper elsewhere he got defensive and told me that he was the only one in NH that had these rounds, that I wouldn't find them anywhere else, and that even the gun manufactures were contacting him to sell them ammo for testing. I told him I would pass on the ammo and just take the holster (which had a price on it) and once again he got defensive and picked up the phone (in an attempt to prove something to me?) and called another large dealer in NH posing as a customer to ask them if they had any .380 ammo which he conveyed to me, no.
after leaving the business I stopped at Al's in Derry and proceeded to purchase the same red dot rounds for $24.50 a box

Pros: None

Cons: Price Gouging

Sportsman's Trading Co. is the WORST gun shop in all of New Hampshire. The owner (Al) is probably one of the best bullshitters i have ever met. He can talk his way out of any situation whether he is actually telling the truth is very doubtful. He has almost no inventory in his store but has everything in his "secret warehouse" that nobody has ever seen or heard of. I will NEVER recommend his store to anybody and will find every spot to write about his sketchy store. This store has "buyer beware" written all over his "secret warehouse."

There are better gun shops out there. I went there because I was looking for TC Muzzleloaders. I saw his add in the hawkeye newspaper earlier that day. I felt as though his advertisement was very deceiving, because it said we carry
the complete line of T/C's... nobody but nobody beats our prices.... Bull! He had two older omegas in the store and that was it. He (AL) was trying to feed me a bunch of crap that he sold seven of them yesterday.. He has them in his own private "Warehouse"... and he was bashing his competitor about their T/C's... So I went to Suds N' Soda in Greenland, and they had what looked like at least a hundred T/C's on hand, and at the best prices anywhere, and they weren't rude like this joker. Al never got of his stool while I was there.. he just sat there and feed me one lie after another.

This a great shop to purchase firearms and accessories. It is a very relaxed atmosphere with a very knowledgeable sales staff. The are competitively priced and have a large inventory.
