I'm a pretty average guy, not much into the bar-hopping, or clubbing scene, but I stumbled upon a real gem when I happened into the Black Brimmer for the first time. My wife and I were out on our weekly Tuesday night date. We had missed the movie we wanted to see, and were just cruising and trying to find something else to do. (On a Tuesday night... yeah right!) We had pretty much given up and were headed home when we rode by the Black Brimmer... Live music on a Tuesday night??? Why not. We stopped in. The place was comfortably crowded, had beautiful antique victorian style decor, dance floor, sports on t.v. friendly atmosphere. The Band was good, but the lead singer.... No wonder they were playing on a Tuesday... We went in and sat at a table in the back, The waitress was quick and pleasant. After the first song ended the "problem" with the lead singer was explained...
An M.C. got on the stage and invited the next Karaoke participant onto the stage... This was the first time I had ever seen a Live Band play for karaoke. The band is REALLY tallented, and the singers... there is some talent there, but everyone has a good time, and everyone is positive and encouraging. We hung out for a while, even got brave enough to get up and make some noise. We have been back several times, Tuesday night is our favorite, (if you show up we'll sing for you... or you can sing for us!) But the place is really happening later in the week, The music is always good, and the atmosphere is friendly if your 21, or 71. If you do decide to check it out, make sure you get to all 3 levels, and try their Beef Nacho's (Biggest, Best Nacho's I've ever had, and under 10 bucks) but bring friends, there's enough to feed about 4 people. Oh yeah, early in the evening the Black Brimmer is a FANTASTIC family resteraunt, My kids have chosen it over fast food!
Check it out...Great music, Great food, Great atmosphere, can't go wrong.

Pros: Friendly atmosphere

Cons: limited parking early in the day, but after 5 there is usually plenty.

My brother's band played a gig there one night, and that was a lot of fun. I have to say, as a bar/nightclub, the Brimmer is nice. The drinks can be pricey, but it depends what you get. It has a "classier" vibe than some of the other bars on Elm St.

But it's as a restaraunt that it fails to impress. The food was nothing memorable; standard American fare. The service was okay, again, nothing to write home about. But because dinner plates can range from $15 to over $20 apiece, I guess I expect something more than just a rich man's Applebees, especially if my husband and I use it as a date night.

So, have dinner somewhere else, but go to the Brimmer after for drinks and to see the live band performance.

Seriously, I DON'T like this place. I don't know why there are even people there. It smells, it's mediocre, takes forever to get a drink, it's too crowded, and it's overplayed.

Seriously, an $8 cover in Manchester, NH? It's not Boston, despite the attitude of the people at the door. Take you $8 and head down the street to one of the new pubs by the Verizon center. That'll pay for a beer and then some at any of those fine places! :)

Pros: Nothing... maybe the fact that I'm not going there again?

Cons: The $8 cover! It's NOT Boston, you know...

SO i went to The Brimmer last night with a few friends and had a blast. They made the whole place non-smoking which is a drag cause i am a smoker, but in all actuality it wasn't that bad not smoking in there. The band they had last night was awesome and for a $8 cover charge it was well worth the money. They played alot of 80's dance hits with there own twist to it and i had a great time dancing and am going to recommend this place to everyone i know.So for those of whom didn't like this place, I am sorry for you, but that just makes more room for me and my friends. So thank-you for not creating a line to get in.

Pros: great atmosphere, friendly crowd

Cons: yeah,,,,,, havent found any yet... ohh wait, ok.. going down stairs to go to the bath room.

I went to the Black Brimmer (known to the locals as The Brimmer) for the first time last night. The food was not impressive at all and it was hard to get a servers attention. However, they had a pretty good band playing and it seems there is live music there several times a week. I would definitely go back, but it would not be my first choice of place.

PROS: Good music
CONS: food and service

Hated this place. Went once, never again.
Too small for what they try to do; and the smoke is overwhelming.

PROS: None
CONS: Crowded, Too Small, Smoky, Dirty

I would not recommend coming here if you don't like being confined in small spaces. You can NOT walk in this place once it gets hopping. I have been here on numerous occasions (with friends) and each time I could barely even move. The music is super loud, to the point that you can't even hear your friends talk to you. If you don't like confined spaces, this ISN'T the place for you!
