We have been taking our animals (2 cats and 1 dog) here for 13 years and we are very pleased with this animal hospital. When we had to say goodbye to one of our cats and the staff was the best - very understanding and caring. As far as regular stuff, they offer options, some cost money, some don't, and they are very understanding and allow us to decide how we want to proceed with our pets. I have only positive things to say about amherst animal hospital

Dr. Hollengreen & staff have cared for our two dogs for the last 9 years and we are really very pleased in all aspects for the help our pets have received! When one of our dogs died in 2008, Dr. Hollengreen was always there when I needed her whether by phone or in the office. She helped me through the daily crisis of his illness and the final day, she was thoughtful and gently to my dog & me. Exactly what we both needed. I will always remember her fondly in that time of great sorrow. Thank you so much Dr. Hollengreen and you could not find a better group of people who assist you from the other MD's,the techs to the front desk...they are ALL wonderful and caring people! We are moving and I worry we won't find anyone as great in our new home!!

I started bringing my dogs here about 7 yrs ago when our husky started running into walls. I was a nervous wreck having to think the worst and one call and they made things better. They diagnose our dog with glaucoma and referred us to a specialist right away. They also did research on Glaucoma and purchased a tester for glaucoma just for our visits. After many visits to the vets our dog was able to recover but blind. We brought our other husky there when I accidentally stepped on his paw and broke it. They took us in right away around 8am. They treated our dog amazing to the point that we would get home and he would remove his cast. He would remove his cast knowing that we would have to go back to the vets to get it put back on. They treated all of our dogs with dignity and respect no matter how many times we had gone back. Also, they didn't charge us to keep putting back on the cast!!! I only go here and will continue to go there. I believe in what you pay for is what your get!!!!

YES it is expensive. Point me to a vet in Southern NH that ISN'T expensive, they all are, and all vets around here have the SAME rates and some that are MORE expensive. I started taking my pet rats here about 10 years ago, now I take my dogs, cats, guinea pigs and yes my current rats here. They are wonderful about seeing me quickly in an emergency. My dog had to get stitches and they took her in right away. YES there WAS an emergency service fee. So what? You'll find that anywhere. They cared for my dog/cat/rat etc. and gave them the level of care that I would expect from a good vet. Yes, they took my dog out back for the stitches, it's to protect the owner and my dog LOVES going to the vet. There was one comment on here about "holding a cat hostage" but maybe this was your first time coming here. As a long time client you gain the privlage of having 30 days to pay your bill which I have done. Also I need to have my dogs stitches checked on at one point and there was no additional charge for this visit, also there was no charge for suture removal and check.

I have been a client for several years and this is an awesome an hospital and they truly care for your pets. The technicians on staff are very knowledgeable, my dogs have taken a liking to Bonnie, who is very sweet and great with little dogs! She can even do a small dental cleaning without anesthesia! The other technicians are also wonderful and passionate about their job. The doctors here care and do the best they can with their clients concerns. I have seen Dr. Hollengreen, Dr. Lemay, Dr. Hotz and Dr. Brown and they are all great! The best thing about this hospital is that they have a team of doctors staffed with great technicians behind them! They also seem to fall in between a small veterinary clinic and an emergency clinic which is wonderful for me. The only thing I can suggest, is improving the receptionist.

I couldn't ask for better care when my cat was rushed in with a high fever. I love Dr. Hollengreen and Dr. Hotz was excellent. I found one front staff and the office manager so caring when I had to make the tuff decision that my cat had to be put down. They both gave a hugs and was crying with me. They have been there for my animals sick, weel or when I had to put them to sleep.

The front end staff is lacking but the Doctors make up for it. They have always treated my dog well and they have been gentle with him. My dog response well to them. I trust them and the prices are fair.

We were first introduced to AAH through a grange member when Newbie ingested part of an indoor/outdoor carpet. She needed surgery to remove the strip from he intestine. Dr. Monochelli was wonderful through this experience. We have had to put down two (one being Newbie) of our girls for health reasons. Dr. Hotz was so understanding and compassionate. I don't know who was more upset (of course me) when Newbie was put down.

Yes, the attitude has changed over the years ;
nonetheless, we would not go anywhere else.

Thank you AAH

Our 12 year old Golden developed a tumor in his heart and had to be put down.

Dr. Hotz and the staff were as kind and compassionate as anyone could hope. We were given all the time we needed to say good bye and it was clear to us that the people at Amherst Animal Hospital cared about us and our pet.

I've been taking my dogs to Amherst Animal Hospital for 3 years. While they have had a bit of staff turnover, we've always gotten high quality vets and pet care! The office staff are very caring and try to get you through as quickly as possible. They do run late for appts sometimes, but that is because they are good about seeing emergency cases at once. One of my dogs was bleeding spontaneously and they fit me in right off , diagnosed the condition accurately and gave me good referrals to 24 hour vets and internal medicine specialists. My dog is doing well now!

My dogs are like children to me - they are my constant companions, unconditional friends, guardians and dependants. Put simply, they're family.

Recently, my "original", as I call him after 8 years together, needed surgery. Having heard wonderful things about AAH, I took him there for the first time (for him, 2nd time overall for me). As I sat in the waiting room for 15 minutes past my appointment, I started to smile. I thought to myself, 'this isn't a factory, they just take their time'.

Give ME 15 minutes extra to answer MY questions and you're damn right I'll wait 15 minutes for my appointment!

True to form, they did just that - took their time and explained what needed to be done. They put together an estimate for me as well.

We've all had "estimates" done for some 'service' or other, right? Sure - tell me $500, tell me something else is needed and then hand me a bill for $800... NOT THIS TIME.

Not only did they do EXTRA work during my best friend's surgery, they charged the LOWER end of their estimate - and would likely have been even lower if he didn't need extra antibiotics (a script which cannot be disputed).

And yes, the doctor stayed late that night for me to pick him up and then explain everything to me... and answer my 20 questions. :)

I don't know anything about turnover or unhappy employees, All I know is that I brought my BEST FRIEND there for care and he received competent, appropriate care. And then some.

Top Notch. Please don't ever change - keep CARING.

Well, I have read good reviews and bad reviews.

I had never been to this clinic before but I only have wonderful things to say.
I had a German Shepperd until yesterday 9/24/07 at 8:00pm.
Rex was my very best friend for 10 years. He was more than a "dog" or "pet". He and I had been thru thick and thin together.
We are pretty sure it was cancer that took him away from me and it was the doctor and staff of this clinic that made the departure as sweet and peaceful as anyone could make death ever to be.
The kindness in their words, the attention to my best friend, the support for me and my family, the understanding of giving us time and space to say our goodbyes will always have more positive weight than the attitude of a bad day at work for a member of the staff that have been mentioned on the previous reviews.
I only have words of grattitude and appreciation to the members of the team last night.

Thank you all for everything last night!
Isabelle

We have been taking our older canine family member to this practice since we adopted her from rescue early this year ('07). They have at all times been patient, respectful, professional and friendly. The staff has taken the time to get to know our pet, they remember her name and speak kindly to her at every visit. When our pet needed to stay for a day, my Wife and I were very concerned and we separately called multiple times. The staff always took time to get us an up the minute report on her progress.

With respect to the negative reviews in this forum, I have encountered nothing that supports them.

My animal companions have been attended by Amherst Animal Hospital since 1978. In all of those years, I have had top notch care for my animals, and a kind and communicative team. As far as expense, I find the practice to be very fair in their charges, and they will always provide you with options.
I highly recommend this team of dedicated veterinary doctors and technicians.

PROS: number of doctors on staff
CONS: none

I have been going to Amherst Animal Hospital for the past seven years and I think they are one of the best group of vets I've yet to meet. I've lived in many different places and can truly say that each of the vets that have taken care of my dogs and rabbits have been excellent. They not only have the expertise I look for in a vet but everyone I have worked with has great bedside manor. This includes techs and front desk staff as well.

From a cost perspective, I don't think they are expensive. From knowledge perspective I belive they know more than the average vets I've used in the past. What I like the best is that if they don't know something, they will confer with specialists or they will have you go directly to the specialist for consultation.

If you are looking for a great vet, give them a call.
