This server was friendly but very slow. I ordered ice tea. I was informed it was brewing and would be out shortly. 20 mins later my "ice" tea arrived...warm, no ice. Server still hadn't taken food order. Apps and food came out at same time. Normally, I would give a resturant a 2nd chance after minimal issues like this, HOWEVER, the crabmeat on my app. was so ROTTED that I could smell it before the server got it to the table. When I asked her how she serve that to me she responded by saying she didn't know what it was suppose to smell like. Certainly not like rotting garbage! We declined all our food and ask for a check for the ice tea and my husband's drink. The waitress went to get the check and upon returning said our drinks were on the house. She informed the chef of our complaint and said he smelled the crab, we were right that it was rotted and he spoke to the woman who pu the dish together. Really? That's it? He couldn't come out to apologize? I am thankful that it smell as bad as it did...who knows how old the rest of the food there is...can you say food poisoning?! Needless to say, we won't be back and we are letting everyone know NOT to frequent this resturant.

First off I hate writing reviews..... but I've been steamed all day. The last time I was at the pond view was quite a while ago, for Thanksgiving non the less and it WAS great. Not so much anymore. First off the parking lot had about 8 ~ 10 cars parked in it on a Sat. afternoon. They must pay people to park there because after we walked through the dimly lit (read~no light) dining room we ended up out back next to the fireplace...... as the only people there. The waitress was kind enough but I think she had to go to Market Basket down the road to get our drinks. I'm sure it took 20 min. at least as the onion rings made it out first. (the only menu item that wasn't horrible, but not great) My wife and I had steak tips and my daughter had chicken fingers. The tips were few and bland, like they fell out of the packaging and onto the grill without even a shake of salt. Ordered medium, showed up as barely medium to ...well raw I guess. Fries with that? Hope you weren't too hungry. I had one for each finger and no more, I'm sure they are just concerned with the state of the American diet. The chicken fingers? Chicken breast sliced rolled in breadcrumbs and fried, plenty of grease and no flavor (except the fry oil) My Mother in law had the backed haddock, dry tasteless.... good news though the rice had spice to spare. I think someone dropped the pepper shaker in there and didn't bother to pull it out. Another round of sodas? sure thing, add it to the bill.

I couldn't leave fast enough, unfortunately I had to hit the restroom before I got back on the road. Let me tell you if it was the first place I went when we got there we would have left in a heartbeat. I was surprised the toilet bowl wasn't frozen, but I guess if you don't go in to clean you wouldn't even know it was cold in there. On the ride home I was concerned for all who just ate there, on the count of food poisoning. I think we all made it!

Well I was out $70 and a bit wiser. I guess that's the price of stupidity for today.

Anyone who gave more than one star must work there or may have dementia and think they were somewhere else. Learn from my $70 mistake don't eat there, keep driving.

Our family use to go to the old Pond View for special dinners. When Rick took over we thought everything should be fine. NOT! We have tried 5 seperate times now and the only thing that changes is the prices go up! He has a kid's menu but no cup suitable for a kid. two days ago we decided to try the new Steakhouse menu. I ordered a $29 steak that was suppose to be a rare rib eye with roasted corn, carmelized onions, demi glaze, etc. I got a thin over cooked piece of fatty, grisly beef that covered the plate(bone included)on top of sauteed squash. My daughter order the Porterhouse which came just like mine and none of the extras listed on the menu. The kids food was dry and chewy. I had to ask for bread(to try and keep the kids happy). We got some baked pizza dough with Italian spices on it. What a disappointment Rick! The staff is unfriendly! The prices are WAY too high! We won't be back until there are new owners!

My wife and I went to Rick's Pond View tonight and had the absolute worst meals we have ever had (I won't say eaten because we hardly ate anything) we arrived at 6:30pm and were seated immediately by a very nice hostess/waitress. We were the only people in the entire restaurant...weird! Ordered stuffed mushrooms which were stuffed with imitation crabmeat and mayonnaise mixture, inside a completely uncoiled and raw mushroom. They were discusting! Then came the clam chowder which was in like a potato broth, not cream, and the skins of the overbooked potatoes in the chowder were all loose and floating around, completely flavorless! Finally for the salads...they couldn't possibly mess that up, right? WRONG!!! 2 chicken Caesar salads came with no parm cheese, bland white bread croutons, and rubbery fatty chicken. The dressing if you could even call it that tasted like nothing, watered down salad...we will never eat nor recommend this dirty, rotten restaurant!!

My wife and I enjoy Sunday afternoons here in the summer when Rick's gets a band to play in the early evenings and they serve both cheap eats and nicely priced beers. I loved the homemade meat loaf but others at the table of 6 enjoyed

Last Thanksgiving (2009) my family and I returned to Pond View for dinner. We have had many Thanksgivings there in previous years under former ownership and always more than pleased and enjoyed our meals and all. But this time under new ownership it was terrible. Our waiter was pleasant and helpful. However, we were very disappointed in the quality and consistency of the meals. The appetizers of Pumpkin Bisque and Clam Chowder were lukewarm. Three orders of Classic Roast Turkey were also lukewarm. A request for one order of white meat only arrived with mostly dry, hard, dark meat. This was returned to the kitchen, and then was missing green beans when brought back to the table. All the turkey meals contained very little turkey and gravy. The order of Prime Rib was also not of the quality we have come to expect from previous experiences at the Pond View.
When I spoke to waiter about our problems and disappointment he said he told management, but never did he or anyone else come out to see us about it.
I did send Rick (new owner) an email regarding this and got a reply with many excuses. He finally agreed to send me a
Gift Certificate which I haven't used as yet and considering whether to try it again this year (2010), but after reading more recent reviews am very skeptical about returning.

Me and a friend went for a late lunch/early dinner and were seated immediately. The main dining room(s) were empty. Walking through to the porch felt like a trip through a dungeon.

We were asked if we wanted to eat on the porch which we did, and there was only one other party of 2 seated. After ordering I noticed a frayed, foot-long gash in the screen, which had it not been afternoon would probably be letting in its share of mousquitos. Looking around, I became more curious as to the apparent disrepair. Okay, though: we were there for the meal.

We had to wait a long time in between waitress visits. The waitress was very nice, however, and cute. The meal however was very bland. I ordered the homestyle meatloaf, and the meat was burned on one side. The meager carrot portion was overcooked, mushy, and tasteless, as was the meatloaf. Some bread or rolls would have helped but we weren't offered any. My friend had the fish, but again it was like 'okay', not memorable by any means.

Ordered a tequila sunrise and they made it with cranberrty juice! How can a bartender mess this up? It's like the most basic drink they can make. Had to wait long enough also, although the restaurant was empty.

Won't return, and this is the second shot we gave it.
A real disappointment. Do yourself a favor: stop and look at the water view, and drive on down the road...

Pros: Water view.

Cons: Questionable cleanliness, tasteless food, drink made wrong.

June 2010 - so excited to finally go back to the Pond view for dinner. I took the special people in my life to once again enjoy. The parking lot was full of cars and we walked in and ... no one was in the dining room - all the lights were off.. it was 7pm on a friday night. We were seated out next to the fireplace. My moms chair cushion was covered with nesting and nuts from a squirel. the meal I have always love, the silver continental for 30.00 came in a little bowl with everything just in a pile. There was no fresh lobster claw meat in drawn butter, it was a rancid 1/2 a lobster tail - had I eaten it, I would have been deathly ill. the other 2 guests had prime rib, sent back 2 and 3 times. This meat, was the lowest grade of beef ever served. tough, chewey, and the first restaurant that had no clue what "rare meat" is. A "chef" came out at one point to see if the beef was to my moms liking... I do believe he was the dishwasher as i saw him hanging out with friends near the dumpster. All around me was filth and cobwebs. A truly discusting embarrasing EXPENSIVE evening. I am an operations manager at another restaurant and we know what to do when guests complain (and i have NEVER complained when out eating in the past) not one manager, ever came out to see us, to apologize, to remove the charges. This is a very expensive restaurant with spoiled low grade food, and staffed by people that can not cook. You do not even rate 1/4 star.

We loved the Pond View under its former ownership and this was our first time in since the restaurant changed hands.

I ordered the tenderloin and lobster tail which was supposed to come with a sweet potato pancake. Sounds delicious huh? What I received was a tenderloin with an overcooked lobster CLAW and some unidentifyable white stuff - not mashed potatoes nor mashed cauliflower - (definitely not a sweet potato pancake).

Word of mouth is the best advertisement. I will certainly be telling people of my experience

we went there on a saturday night and got right in, ha ha they asked if we had a reservation, it was empty. twice i tried to get an ice tea it was like dirty water, no taste and they were unable to make one. the diet coke tasted like dark soda water. the prime rib was awful not cheap but awful. once you cut off all the fat and there was more fat than meat, it was tough and i couldn't even get it cooked the way i asked and the waitress never came back to see how it was till much too late. no bread/rolls it says baked potato but it was nuked and even at that it was to hard to eat. just awful.
beware it's not the old pond view, not even close.

I have always to go here and finally got my wish this past Valentines day. We had six thirty reservations and were seated promptly. I asked if we could move to a more romantic table and our hostess was very accomodating. We sat in the piano room overlooking the pond. Dinner was fantastic. We had Hors'dovers, salads, appetizers, dinner, desert and two bottles of wine. Some things are pricey but very worth it!

The place is all repaired, gorgeous, very comfortable;
the food was very fresh, creatively done and the beef, chicken with brie and eggplant/veal dishes we tried were generously proportioned and delicious. They have a lot of nice, creative touches in the horsd'ouevres and we split several of them. The complimentary salad was very nice, with a fresh tasting, light dressing. Our waitress was very attentive, and right there even before we realized we needed something.. The pianist was excellent. We have been going there for years, but I must say this was the best meal so far. Wish we'd had room for dessert.

My husband and I met friends from Salem, NH at the Pond View a few weeks ago and had a lovely evening. The service was good, our waitress was attentive without being smothering. The others had a drink and were quite satisfied. I had baked haddock, my husband had a seafood combo, our friends had prime rib and shrimp. We were all happy with our selections. Everything was clean and shiny. Although we do not do ":fine dining" frequently, I thought that Rick's was priced fairly for the amount and quality of food and the type of restaurant. I was impressed. They are easily reached, being right on Rt 125. We would definitely go again, looking forward to Pumpkin ravioli that Rick showed on WMUR's Cook's Corner.

For my wife and I, this was the single most dinning disappointment of our lives. I will start by saying that I called for reservations earlier in the day and arrived @6pm to find my name not on the list, great communication. The floor was a minefield of crumbs, and glassware couldn't be seen thru because of handprints and filth. I guess I'll mention this because this IS the forum to do so; there was a HUGE spider web on the wall 18 inches from our table. Even as busy as things get in a restaurant, spider webs in the dining area is f'ed up! Instead of being open 7 days a week and NOT keeping the place visually clean, close on Monday's and do it! Lets get to the food. Right off the top we order simple apps. of lentil and sausage soup and clam chowder, along with a diet-cola and water. The soups come out and my wife's sausage soup had TWO nuggets of meat, though flavorful should have been called "pan-drippings and lentil soup." As for my chowder, or should I say "milk-n-potato" mix, I was really disappointed, Void of any flavor, texture, or clams I grab the pepper to find ours is empty. GRRRR as my wife would say. The woman sitting three tables over had her martini brought back because a "bug" was in it. That is relevant because the waitress brought out before our entrees an hors d'oeuvres called "amuse-bouche" which happened to come with a side of baby-bug. I wiped it off the plate but that was gross. I'm sure the dead bug didn't appear on the plate after plating, pretty observant culinary team! Out come the salads. The dressing was great however the six peppers were very limp and inedible. My wife got the pork loin with risotto which was satisfactory. I got the queen cut of prime rib which was ordered medium. I should have guess, it came out brown on the outside and RAW on the inside. Prime rib is an easy cut to cook...that is some talented chef. I do not know if the owner is the chef, if he is he'll need culinary school. We had a gift certificate of $50, so we paid only $20 for the meal....which I still feel as though I was taken. Value..not even close. This is the sticks of New Hampshire...not Boston. The chef/owner is way off the mark here. The first thing he will have to do to get a $30 plate out of me in the future is clean the place and lower the price point. I WILL NOT BE RETURNING, even if he paid me!

went to the Pond View for my birthday a couple of weeks ago - the place was EMPTY and that should have been the red flag. The food was very good [except for the salad that had a horrid sickenly sweet dressing and no-one could eat it] but the service was so incredibly slow we could not believe it.... took more than 90 minutes to get the food - inexcusable. In addition, the bathroom was so filthy I was completely disgusted - there is NO excuse for that guys! I felt badly as my sons had treated me to dinner and I think they were uncomfortable and embarrassed - NOT the Pond View of old and I won't go back!

This resturant has been around since I was a girl (35 years ago) and I've been to it many times, but no one can match the meticulous management , style, and care of the origional owner. I've heard her Daughter(s) ran it and sold out to Rick. I was also dissapointed to hear the gazebo is no longer safe for people to go on. I hope it is fixed soon. It's a wonderful and beautiful addition to the atmosphere in the Summer. There used to be paddle boats and ducks out there.
We dine often and here is our find;
We dined in mid afternoon on a Friday, from the lunch menu. Not many choices, but we found what we wanted. Fabulous fresh bacon wrapped scallops for appetizers (8 scallops/ $8.00). Good flavor and portions on sandwiches, reasonable prices on lunch menu, fresh salads and good meats. Good full glass of wine. Also enjoyed the background music. Asked for a salad instead of fries. Gladly accomodated (for $1.00 more).

The dining area was a little chilly and my husband had to wear his coat through the meal. There was a phone ringing LOUD in the dining area that was disturbing. There were not many people in the restaurant when we were there, but we waited FAR TOO LONG for our meal, which was only sandwiches and fries! (over 1/2 hour) Finally, I went to the kitchen and asked if our meal was coming soon. We got it shortly thereafter.

The dining rooms are tastefully decorated as always and before, but my chair was too low for the table and I felt like I was stretching to eat my meal...not relaxing.

I hope Rick will make a steadfast effort at his new restaurant by listening to his customers and cheerfully giving them a good value and a memorable dining experience instead of waiting too long for the food they ordered. What's going on in that kitchen anyway?

This resturant has been around since I was a girl (35 years ago) and I've been to it many times, but no one can match the meticulous management , style, and care of the origional owner. I've heard her Daughter(s) ran it and sold out to Rick. I was also dissapointed to hear the gazebo is no longer safe for people to go on. I hope it is fixed soon. It's a wonderful and beautiful addition to the atmosphere in the Summer. There used to be paddle boats and ducks out there.

Pros: good value, music, tasting food, quaint, interior decorating

Cons: long wait for food, loud phone in dining room, needs a little updating on the grounds

I had been dying to try Rick's since it opened last fall. I heard about their grand opening on a local radio station. We were dining with some friends and I suggested we try Rick's Pond View. After all, it was the grand opening, so I expected a lot. I didn't get it. We arrived around 8:30 and there were a few people at the bar in the restaurant area, and a few tables finishing up in the dining room. We were greeted by three pleasant young ladies dressed in black. Our server was very nice, but even though the restaurant was not busy at all, we had to pile up our salad dishes, and put them on the end of the table. The food was expensive, but the service was not in tune with the price we paid. The portions were very small. The flavor was OK, but not great. For the prices it should have been WOW. The thing that impressed me the most though was that I never saw Rick. You would think that at his grand opening he would at least try to get to every table and meet the guests. In fact after the initial greeting from the hostesses we never saw them again either. Won't go back.

My girl freind and I went to the pond view for a very romantic valentines day and it was the worst time we have ever had. We will never go back there. We had a 7:30 reservatiion. We didn't get seated until around 9:00. And if that wasn't enough they kept telling us that they were out of everything. We finaly ordered something(not what we would have wanted and only the most expensive things left) we didn't get any water or bread even though we had asked a dozen times. Our waitress was totaly rude. We we got our meal about 10:00 to was cold and distusting(so neither of us even eat anything). All night I was wishing that we had gotten up and left like everyone else was. Anyway I was glad to get home that night so we could finally have something to eat and end the awful night.

8 pm reservation at the new "Rick's" Pondview Resturant. We arrived at the Pondview at 7:10 and proceeded to the lounge where we had difficulty obtaining drinks from the waitress. After 20 minutes we asked another waitress for drinks and we were eventually served. We were brought to our dining table on the second floor at 8 pm. Drinks were ordered, followed by ordering dinner. The drinks were served in reasonable time, but from that point forward the meal was a disaster. It took almost an hour to obtain our dinner salad, we asked for bread three times and after about an hour were served stale wheat rolls! Then, the waitress came back and told us that there was no more prime rib (she was almost in tears!). The food was finally served and my steak was undercooked and the three other meals were cold and overcooked. If this is the "New Look" Pondview then I suggest you close it now! What a dissapointment!

Went to Ricks Pondview for Valentine's Day and we were very disappointed. The seats were uncomfortable, the table was too small and the service was very slow. Our waitress removed our water glasses instead of filling them so we even had to ask for water. We ordered the Queen sized Prime Rib which was extremely fatty and undercooked. The baked potato was a little overdone. We sat in the main dining room with a beautiful fireplace, but it wasn't lit so the room seemed a bit "cold". I won't be back. Too bad, we had high hopes. I've had a much better prime rib at a lower price at the Carriage Towne Bar & Grill which is also located in Kingston...They have good food, good service, great prices and a nice atmosphere.

The food is delicious. The seating is fun and romantic. The staff was friendly and prompt. The restaurant is fine dining but is very family friendly. The building is huge and beautifully placed right on the pond. The view is beautiful.

It's nice to see this landmark reopen. The new owners really did a nice job cleaning it up. My wife and I have been there a couple of times now and love it. Prime rib is my favorite while the baked stuffed haddock is hers. Check out the seafood cake and the filet mignon stuffed mushrooms. I liked that they have a lot of nice wines by the glass. I tried one called Ol' Red and another called Cigar Zin, they were awesome. We went to the pub side of the building after dinner for a cordial. It was really busy and fun.

This is a nice restaurant but it's kind of out of the way. Their food is excellent but pretty expensive, but it's good for a special occasion. Their menu is really diverse too.

If you want a really special local restaurant with a romantic setting for a special occasion, Pond View is the place to go. The food will be very good and the view lovely, but be warned that afterwards your wallet will also be empty!

The Restaurant has a number of dining areas some of which have intimate seating. They have a lunch buffet plus menu. Obvious favorite of the locals in the Kingston area. Accomodating to large group meetings. Good food, service, ambiance and value.
