Ratings_icons Kirby Co could care less....

Katie C.

Although they tell you otherwise, Kirby of Concord totally ignores the "do not call list". They don't even refer to one. We had to use phone books as our contact list, often with many callers calling the same names repeatedly. Whey I first started working, I asked where the "do not call list" was, so I could put names on it, and I was laughed at. They told us to tell people we had just opened our "new office" and so were offering them this great deal- the office has been there for YEARS. Shabby work environment, supervisors who play favorites and could care less, hard to get bonuses, or even your regular pay- one of the worst of the telemarketing jobs.

I worked there for a little over 2 months, and actually spent more money on gas and other Work-related things than I made. They start off nice, asking the new sales rep to start with their families and practice the demos in front of them. then they force you to force your families to buy one... they were around $1800 when I worked there...And then, you're supposed to get "Leads" from your family. Leads are just names and phone numbers of friends of the person getting the demo. You have to turn those leads in to the telemarketing department who are supposed to schedule them for demos FOR YOU. What happened instead, was after three 7 day work weeks, when I decided not to come in on a Saturday, ALL of MY leads had gone out to the senior sales people, and I was left to either get more leads on my own by going door to door, or accept the leads they gave me, which turned out to be crack houses that were at a minimum an hour's drive time from Concord. At the time, I lived in Henniker, and already had to drive a half hour to get to the store every day. It is nearly impossible to complete the 15 demos a week that are required to get the gas bonus which is less than $50, and the Guaranteed pay of $450. So after all that hard work, lugging this giant heavy vacuum up and down flights of stairs in shady neighborhoods where the occupants were all on welfare and Definitely couldn't afford a Kirby, I found myself more broke than when I began. To make matters worse, several family members were given demos by other Kirby salespeople who inherited my leads. I was terminated when I failed to show up on a Saturday for the third week in a row. Another employee was terminated because she wasn't selling the Kirby's but just doing the demo, and leaving so she'd have enough time to finish her 15 showings for the week and collect the $450 for that.

Kirby Company's workers aren't compensated for their work.

1st of all its illegal to call 18 year old kids independent contractors UNLESS they meet ALL OF THE CRITERIA.

2 of all, in the Demos, Sales reps say
"We don't care if you buy one, because We get credit just for coming to your house today". Another LIE because if this were true, someone who's an "independent contractor" should be PAID for doing a demo. Instead, they are only paid if they sell the Kirby vacuum and are lied to by the supervisors. Once they find out they may quit, or stick with it for awhile until they realize the company doesn't care to pay for your work, only if you sell their product do you get compensated a little bit.
IF you were supposed to do 10 demos in a week to receive a $300 paycheck, YOU SHOULD BE PAID the fraction of the paycheck based on how many demos.
It is Unethical to NOT pay these kids when they do the training, put in long hours and drive all the way to people's houses for demos, and then Not be paid.

If a sales rep did 5/10 demos in the week they should get $150 of the paycheck. The businesses hiring these kids rip off young men and women for labor and don't pay, and I would tell anyone not to support this. Its a great vacuum, but the people running the job seem to care less about their employees or customers.

Okay to the corrections officer. I was a former employee of kirby and just recently quit. I can tell you the TRUTH about kirby. Kirby is a great company with alot of opportunity if u can sell a 1700.00 vaccuum to someone who makes minimum wage. I worked there for a month and was paid nothing. Kirby of Concord was a great place we sang POSITIVE songs in the morning had free coffee and breakfast but u work 6 days a wk with no pay. Basically there is no base pay unless you get the fifteen apointments that the nasty appointment setters will not give you. The appointment setter mellissa is horrible the meanest person in the world and Jeanie will lie to you and act like she loves kirby all day. Rick Smith the owner is a GREAT guy but like everyone else he is trying to put money in the bank. I dont want to be mean MR CORRECTIONS officer but I am a College student and worked for kirby and just because u have had a bad experience does not mean that kirby reps are criminals u idiot! Anyways the carpet cleaning is AWESOME and its FREE but u mite want to consider letting them over if u have no interst in learning about the kirby's capabilities its an AWESOME machine but very expensive. THIS IS THE TRUTH unlike most of the people talk about them. The reps are great people and my former co workers and they are good hard working people trying to make ends meet.

Ratings_icons Kirby of Concord will scam you!!

I used to work for Kirby of concord and they lied to me and refused to pay me for 2 weeks of work!! Every thing about that place is sketchy. The owner Rick Smith Fired me for not selling enough machines and said because I was 5 minutes late to his "scam training" that I would not recieve my paycheck for the work I put in!! I have called the BBB and the attorney general. Ive talked to many other people that have been treated poorly by the owner of KIRBY OF CONCORD and I feel it is not right!! I'm a 23 year old college kid who was trying to make some extra cash for the summer. I wish somebody would stop rick smiths unethical ways because he is destroying the KIRBY NAME. Know dont get me wrong the Kirby vacuum is the best!! It really is, but how he teaches us to push them on old people and how he treats his employess is simpy wrong!! I would tell anybody looking for summer work to watch out for Kirby of Concord... They will SELL YOU down the drain!

Ratings_icons RICK SMITH IS A LYING CRIMINAL!! KIRBY OF CONCORD STOLE MY MONEY!!1

Anonymous

I recently had Kirby of Conord over to my home a couple month ago because they would not stop calling my house at all hours of the day. I nicely dressed man came to my door and was polite at first until I told him that I didnt want to buy his heavy vacuum cleaner. Well he called his boss "Rick Smith" over 6 times, trying to shove this vacuum down my throat. Now I am a 71 year old women who is on social security. After 4 hours of pressure I finally gave in. After he left I tried to call the office to cancel my order and the actual owner Rick Smith answered and told me that was out of the question. Finally he sent the same man to house to pick it up and they have there vacuum back but still have not returned my money!!! Beware of Rick Smith an KIRBY OF CONCORD!! ITS ALL A SCAM!!

Ratings_icons Ditto on the crazy salepeople!

We said no thanks to cleaning "2 rooms of carpeting for free" but they wouldn't stop calling!! Have caller id so could see they called a few times every night for almost a month. I finally answered one night when called about 9PM and said we're on do not call list and and it's 9 so not supposed to call so late. Their salesgirl yelled "I'm not selling anything but giving a service away so don't have to abide by 'do not call list' and it's one minute to 9 so I can call all I want!!!" I hung up, took phone off hook. She called next night anyway, told her to stop calling again, took phone off hook. Next night she called AGAIN, my husband answered and said "my wife said to stop calling" and she said "I know but you sound nice, would you like to buy a Kirby vacuum?" He yelled at her and hung up. She hasn't called again but who knows how long that'll last.

Ratings_icons Crazy sales people

I have had two free vacuum demonstrations from these people in the past few years. The first one went fine although it took way more than the hour they indicated it would take on the phone. The second which occurred a couple years after the first did not go well. I could not get the sales guy to leave my house even though I told him I only had 1 hour to give him. I finally had to threaten to let the dogs out fo the basement and went as far as to stand in front of the basement door with my hand on the doorknob to get him out of my house. Now I have never misled these guys. They call to see if they can clean a carpet for free. I always say they can but I'm not interested in buying a vacuum. And they say no problem. But apparently they forgot to tell this sales guy the news because he was down right hostile when I told him I didn't want to buy a vacuum. I will never again have my carpets cleaned for free by anyone.
