I've used Charlie's Auto Service for 3 years. They seem honest and do good work. What follows are my MINOR issues with the shop. Let me begin by stating: I will happily continue to use Charlie's Auto for my vehicle service! Now, as to my small complaints. I've had them do the usual state inspections and oil changes. The biggest job I had them do was a full brake job on a small japanese make. It was 900 bucks. I think that was pretty steep. I had the same thing (new rotors, pads, etc.) done to a Pontiac three years earlier and it was 600. And that was at a Pontiac dealer. I'm not saying there was anything nefarious going on. But they are expensive. Also, Charlie's really doesn't have any place for folks to wait. They probably don't want people waiting on site but I want my local shop to do ALL of my vehicle maintenance. That includes oil changes. I hate to leave my vehicle for 24 hours for a lousy oil change. My one other quibble with Charlie's is there doesn't seem to be any administrator at the shop. If you call, a different person answers every time. It can make for some confusion. When I leave my car there for service, I ask them to call as soon as it's done. I don't want to call them and bother them while they're trying to work. However, in almost every case, I have to wait until 5pm and call them to inquire whether the work is done. Maybe I need to communicate my wishes better. In sum, I think Charlie's is a good, solid, honest shop which does good work, is pretty expensive, and needs some minor improvement with their customer service skills.
