It was a very disappointing night at your place last night. I live an hour away from Portsmouth, but each year my boyfriend and I would come to your place often during the summer and even brought friends with us who are from MA. We always stay downstairs because of their great beer, food and friendly staffs.
Last night, after visiting our other favorite place shooting few hours of free pool and drinking few beers, we headed to Portsmouth Brewery and made it as our last stop of the night as we usually do.
When we arrived at the door, we were stopped by two door guys asking for our I.D. We showed them with no problem and one of the guys asked my boyfriend how much he had to drink before we got there. My boyfriend told him honestly that he had 3 drinks before we got there. Right away, without saying anything else, the door guy said that we were not allowed to go in. It's getting even more frustrating that when I asked him why we were not allowed to go in, by what he was judging that we shouldn't be served. Without answering my question at all, he said: "you are creating a scene right now, and we will call the cop."
This is ridiculous!!! I never see anyone at the door who would handle the situation like this! He asked us how many drinks, and we said three, but the fact was that 3 drinks was consumed from 530pm -9pm! Also, while I was trying to ask him the questions, I witnessed him kept letting at least 5-6 other people going in without asking them any questions!!! So why were we being treated so differently!? Obviously it has nothing to do with how we acted cause when I asked him was it because we acted inappropriately, he got no answer for me.
Or was it because I am the only Asian in the town!? And the door guy happened to be a shaved white guy? I need an explanation and apology!
We even called and talked to the manager on duty because the door guys refused to get us the manager, and the manager's response was the door guys have full power and authority to turn anyone away, and he refused to come outside and talked to us in person. I managed a billiard club that has 40 staffs each night before and this is definite very unprofessional on dealing with issues with customers!

Good food and it's a place to go with a group of people and definitely not for an intimate meal. Food is good and good choice of beer

Try the various beers on tap. They are always coming up with new beers along with their standards.

If you are looking for a quiet dinner this is not the place to go. Due to the brick walls and tin ceilings is can be a bit noisy. Great place to hang out with friends and enjoy yourselves.

Good selection and haven't found anything I didn't like.

I had a group of clients in Portsmouth, NH and we were looking for a spot to unwind after a week of meetings. This was a perfect setting...price right for a small group. The portions of food were perfect. This enable many of the guest to sample the desserts. As for myself, they had all these interesting beers available but I choose the frozen margaritas. I have to see the waitress was very good about serving the small group even as they grew spirited as the night went on. We decided this would be the venue that we would use as a closure to our meetings. The atmosphere allowed us to enjoy a bit of laughter without bothering other patrons. In fact, the wait staff made sure they involved the surrounding tables so it was very quiant dining experience.

i shouldn't have been surprised when i had to send back the hummus and baba ganoush plate. i mean, after all, it IS called the portsmouth brewery - not bistro/ristorante/cafe, etc. and the beers we had - the stout and cream ale - were fine. actually, the cream ale was weak - the stout was awesome. however, whatever chef allowed that runny, parsley infused concoction to be served should be fired for caring so little. the grilled vegetables that came with it were fabulous, but i shudder just thinking of trying to run the stale, cold, falling-apart "flat bread" through hummus that looked to be a salt marsh steeped in grass and run off. the waiter, to his credit, took it back without complaint, didn't charge us for it, and the replacement calamari was nice but he forgot the damn aoili that went with it. it's hard to eat something deep fried if you can't slather more flavorful fat on top of it. the bathroom was leaking, too, and i wondered about the sign that said to keep ALL food and beverage out of the toilets. what was that about? sigh.

Pros: beer and service

Cons: hummus plate and bathrooms - but NOT at the same time

I have been going to the Brewery for more than 10 years, but last night was my LAST time. Their menu has changed- and become over-priced, but even moreso, when myself and my two girlfriends approached the door and we were laughing- we were

I love this place! It's well designed to be open and airy, although it can get backed at busy times. The food there is great and the beer is even better. I was surprised at the variety of food they offered. Rather up scale and very well
