Sonia C reported quilting fabrics in 2006 at $15/yd. Even today, 2012, the average price is $11.50/yd for quilting fabric. There are chain stores where fabrics are less expensive but the quality compared to PFC is much different.
There are specialty Japanese fabrics, organic cottons, silks like Dupioni and others, including high end garment fabric, that have higher prices, but the fabric, quilting and garment, is all top quality. I do presently work at the store and would like to encourage people to come in. We get visitors from around the globe and ship worldwide. It's something to see that you won't find anywhere else.
If you are used to using fabrics from other stores, come to PFC to experiment with our fabrics for a special project.

Responding to the earlier email, I have taken their classes, most will accommodate beginners, just ask. The fabric choices make them look more difficult than they really are. A MUST SEE SHOP if you are in the area. Go ahead and try one of their classes, we learn by challenging ourselves. Enjoy!

PROS: Great inspiration! Kaffee Fassett fabric line
CONS: narrow space to move around in, no A/C in class room

I have gone in here a couple of times to fawn over the fabrics, but $15 a yard for quilting fabric is too much for me. They have wonderfully complicated quilts on display for inspiration. They also have lots of tools for a quilter.
This is a different type of store for downtown Portsmouth so it is nice to pop in here when shopping to relax and dream about new quilts.
They do offer classes, but I am too intimidated by the beautiful quilts on the wall to take one. I am not a precision quilter so I get the impression they would tell me I am not a good quilter.

PROS: Unique fabrics
CONS: kind of expensive
