This is the most expensive club in the area, and I can't figure out why. I've been a member for 15 months. But I rather dread going there. The interior is cave-like, with almost no natural light and fluorescent down-lighting that flatters nobody. The satellite radio is usually playing 80s music.
I pay $60 per trainer session, and the guy cancels on me at the last minute all the time. Sure, I could switch trainers, but that would be awkward.
Even joining this club was a challenge--the "membership" (sales) person didn't call me back for a week. Then the trainer didn't return my calls for a week. And this is a service industry?
The drop-in daycare is poor. The club discovered they can make more money by running a pre-school on the premises, so that's their focus now. My two spent an hour there last week and were told to remain at the coloring table. Also, they were shushed the whole time-- it was naptime for the preschoolers. Who needs that?

this gym is geared toward people who make higher than average incomes. even though my husband gets a discounted rate from his employer, they refuse to provide the same discount to the spouse, they want every penny. the membership is double what an ordinary gym costs and there is NOTHING extrarordianry about this place. Also the personal trainer feels are double what a normal fee would be for training..and there is no structure to the place, ie, a person can be working out anywhere in the room and not show any concern for others. For instance, there is a lady who likes to make huge thumping noises as she lifts her legs on the treadmill, this is very noisy and distrubing to me yet it s ok for her as it s part of her workout.
the members are rude and extremely self absorbed, they will stand in the middle of the locker room yakking away without any concern for others. also there is a therapy pool than is geared towards people who are recovering from injuries and the management allows self absorbed lap swimmers (who do the backstroke) to use this pool even though there is a nice lap pool designed for lap swimming.
I bring this up as I have almost been hit a couple of times by the self absorbers as they cannot see where they are going.
so the place basically sucks.
I am not renewing my membership.-1*

The River Valley Club caters to upscale clients, and the price tags reflect it. Still they offer all of the equipment and classes you would want along with personal trainers and a spa. The locker room is also very cushy. The atmosphere is geared for adults. Though there are some features I like, I overall have opted not to stay a member because it doesn't seem to be a good value.
