We vacationed in NJ last summer and I took my wife here for dinner late on a week night. The dark, classy atmosphere was spendid for a romantic evening. The waiter was very polished and courteous. The sangria, complementary soup and bread, and garlic shrimp appetizer were excellent. We split a Paella Valenciana (and still took some home) that would have been excellent but it was way too salty. Despite that, I highly recommend. I would have given 5 stars if the paella wasn't salty.
If you're looking to have authentic Spanish food, this is the place for you! I've never been to the one on Route 22, but from what I heard, the one in Newark is much better. I went here for an engagement party and the service was great! You don't have to speak Spanish, but it definitely helps. We had all different types of seafood and everything we were given was delicious! (The bread is so good!) I highly recommend Spanish Tavern if you're interested in trying Spanish cuisine!
We went here since we read about it in a magazine and heard it from friends that it was very good. We're glad we listened to them. There was twelve in our group when we went and two, delicious paellas were enough for all of us. Because the paella was so big the price was overall cheap. The environment was bright and welcoming. I recommend it for large, adult gatherings since they do lack a kid-friendly menu. Also, it will be very useful if you speak or know Spanish since most of the workers speak Spanish.
