The BEST authentic Mexican food hands down! Their food is consistently delicious and fresh. I have been going to El Meson for over 12 years and I want everyone to know how great they are! The BEST!

4 stars bc they have excellent mexican food but no alcohol. BYOB if you want to drink anything. There is nothing like great Mexican food without a margarita!

The food is pretty good here, I've heard different things about it so had to finally try it. People who love it, love it. People who don't, feel strongly about how awful it is. But in my opinion, the food was pretty good, just pricey for Mexican food. Its nice that its a BYOB. I had stead fajitas and my girlfriend had a bean burrito thing, both of us liked our meals, it was really just the price that makes you think twice about it.

Yes, I have noticed that lately also....Food has become more expensive and service and quality have suffered. I personally like Rojo Loco Southwestern Grill. They just opened in Howell, NJ on Route 9 next to Longhorn steakhouse. Great food, very reasonable prices and fantastic service. Although its a 15 minute drive from Freehold for me, its well worth it.

Against my better judgment I went back to El Meson this evening, only to be ripped off, once again. My wife and I were hungry, and having just returned from Virginia, we were in the mood for Mexican. Jose's is too far, so we decided on El meson with a bottle of wine. I had "family banned" this place after my wife and I had a $40 lunch consisting of 2 burritos and 2 drinks, about a year ago, ripped!. This time unfortunately, it was a similar situation. we sat down, road weary from traveling, the waitress, who was moderately pleasant, uncorked our wine and we ordered while I poured 2 glasses. I ordered a plain old burrito with beans and rice inside with Pico de gallo on the side & my wife ordered a burrito loco which has vegetables and beans inside. We had a few chips and salsa, which happens to be some pretty good salsa. My wife gets up to go to the restroom, while she is gone the waitress serves our food! We were literally there for 7 minutes, and it wasn't like this place wasn't crowded because there were quite a few people there. Maybe it was all in my imagination. but I felt really rushed at this point. My burrito was tiny, and had very little stuff inside, my wife's looked slightly better. but again was pretty small. My Pico was kinda bland which made the whole thing kinda tasteless. The wait staff was attentive when we were eating, I must say. So, we couldn't even finish a glass of wine before the check came, I was shocked, which I shouldn't have been, I just refused to believe it. Both our burritos were $13.99 and $7 for 2 drinks! Again Im going for $40+ for beans and rice, beans and rice, the cheapest food on the planet! I said something to the waitress, which I never do. She replied with "oh, all the burritos are the same price" WTF! I got beans and rice. Anyway, this is the second time I have had this experience, its my own fault, but I will never dine here again. I really want to like this place, it is close to home, the food used to be excellent and with larger portions. IMO Joses in Spring Lake on rt 71 is a much better bang for your buck, the decor is a bit lacking tho.

True Authentic Mexican food. Worth the wait!!
The price is right and the food is consistent. We love to sit outside when the weather is nice. It's BYOB, so bring the Jose Cuervo Margarita's and you're in for a treat. My favorite is the carnito's, the Triple Enchilada platter or the fajita's. Yum!

This place is the WORST!!! We had to wait to have our order taken. The food had no taste. However, the absolute worst thing about this place is the Manager. The table next to us was seated first, had there order taken before us and did not receive their meal until we were paying for ours!. A man at the table spoke to the Manager (or maybe owner) in a very non-confrontational way and said they had been waiting a very long time for their food. The Manager barked back at them that they HAD NOT been waiting long and the food would get there when it was ready! WE WILL NEVER GO TO THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN!!!!! I WOULD HAVE WALKED OUT AT THIS POINT

The place is great. Real authentic and totally delicious mexican food. The decor of the place makes you feel like you're in some crazy mexican fiesta and the outdoor dining is tented off so you don't have to deal with sun and weather. Amazing place - I absolutely recommend.

In this area you cannot match the authenticity. Yes its small and crowded, but the food more than makes up for it. Prices are good and service is very accommodating. The menu is an excellent representation of a typical restaurant menu in Mexico. As for John O??s review 1st learn how to spell and 2nd enjoy Taco Bell. I heard they are open late too.

El meson is an amazing restaurant. The food is to die for. It??s a little expensive for Mexican, but it??s so authentic and delicious. It??s BYOB so you can bring your favorite alcoholic beverage if you choose to. It??s a small place and is always crowded which is the downside. In the summer they have outside tables which is nice. There really isn??t any parking around, but about a block down there??s a municipal lot that you can park in. It??s a really great place with great food and definitely something everyone should try at least once.

My wife and I have been going here for many years. We go at least four times per month. You will not find anything nothing fancy about this place, no fancy clothes needed, no expensive meals, and no liquor licence. What you will find is THE BEST tasting food you will EVER eat. The service is great, the staff is friendly, and did I mention the food is outstanding! Everyone who I have recommended this place to absolutely falls in love with it. Do yourself a favor and try other places first, then come to EL MESON. You too will agree with what I am saying. From their freshly made salsa to their large portioned entrees, this place is in a league of their own!

I've given this restaurant more than its fair share of tries (3 to be exact), and each time it became consecutively worse. The restaurant is small and cramped, and as far as the food quality is concerned, save your money and just go down the road to Taco Bell; it's better anyway. The restaurant always seems understaffed and overstuffed, and nobody in my family lieks it.

PROS: --
CONS: Bad food, bad service, small and crowded

This is my absolute favorite restaurant ever. The menu is extensive and covers food such as nachos to cactus. The service is pleasant and the atmosphere is fun and casual. Bring your own beer or margaritas to complete your experience. The only problem with this restaurant is the lack of space and parking.

PROS: fun atmosphere, great food
CONS: usually very crowded

Food is very good and always fresh. The only real complaint about the place is the lack of standing space when you are waiting to be seated. You are always in someones way. Having said that I will still eat there because the food is so good. Service is average waiters are ok.

Unlike the COlorado reviewer I found El MEson to be another average type MExican restaurant. Yes it is also a Mexican food store, which is quite authentic, but the dining experience for my wife and myself was a bit disappointing. Its a little better than a chain restaurant but not that much better.

Folks are friendly but service is just so-so, nothing right nothing wrong.

No there is no reason to go back.

I live in Colorado, so when I was invited to lunch at El Meson on a recent visit I was a bit skeptic. After all, "back east" to me means Italian. I was overwhelmingly surprised. The food is very authentic and very fresh. If there were an El Mason in Colorado, it would be a regular destination for me.
