The Village Cheese Shop has good cheeses and a knowledgeable staff, and they also have delicious salads.

One of my favorites is the Village Chicken Salad which is made with freshly picked chicken and mandarin oranges. Also the Flo's Potato Salad ranks high on my list due to the bacon, eggs, and mustard used. The end of every visit must include a giant chocolate chip cookie as big as your fist, made (not just baked) on the premises. Of course the home made cakes are to die for too.

I had a last minute order but the owner was understanding and accommodating. You can't expect a small business owner to have the stock a big box store carries. Especially during the holidays or at the end of the day. They make their platters to order and require a little head's up in order to make sure the produce is in stock and the platter is prepared to your liking - not thrown together, pre-packaged stuff you get at the supermarket. The Cheese Shop is well worth the trip. The owners are knowledgeable about their products, can make suggestions when you aren't sure what you want and the food is home-made and fresh. You certainly don't get that many places these days. The store carries a lot of unique items beyond cheeses - gourmet items, gifts, as well as a nice breakfast and lunch menu. Their catering is frequently raved about at the parties I have gone to. I'd definately go back.

I went into the Village Cheese Shop to see about purchasing a cheese platter. The owner was annoyed that I had not pre-ordered the platter. I explained that it was for a last minute gathering and that I didn't mind waiting. She was very rude and kept complaining loudly that I had not called ahead. The shop was empty so I'm not sure why my platter was such a burden. In the end, I took my business elsewhere. I can't imagine the cheese at the cheese shop is great enough to make customers over look the owner's attitude.

The Village Cheese Shop is a very well established cheese and gourmet shop. I have often gone in and selected from a lovely variety of cheeses to make up a gift basket. Sometimes, I think a gift of food is more appreciated than a gift of flowers. The sales people always assist in making the crucial decisions about what should be included or excluded. It's also a wonderful place to treat yourself to that special cheese in the fondue recipe you've been wanting to try. Enjoy!
