ASK THE FULL PRICE BEFORE THEY START !!!

I brought a 2011 Ford Raptor in for an oil change to the Valvoline on Route 23 in Kinnelon. I had a coupon for $22.99 for a full oil change (5 quarts and filter included). Since my truck takes 7 quarts per change - I knew it would cost proportionally more for the extra 2 quarts of oil.

The assistant manager happened to wait on me and stated that the extra oil would cost "a few dollars extra" than the coupon price- I said ok and they began the service.

At this facility you drive in, remain in your vehicle, and they change the oil and filter while you wait inside your vehicle. One tech drained out the oil and removed the old filter below the truck while the assistant manager began working under the hood-

In a few minutes the assistant manager came out from under the hood with my AIR FILTER!! ...I asked for an oil change...What the fudge was he doing monkeying around with the air filter?? He then says "You have to replace the air filter for ($50+ dollars) since it had some dirty spots on it!!

Keep in mind that he was well aware that my truck only has 15,000 miles on it and FORD recommends replacing the air filter at 30,000 miles under normal conditions- I use this truck for on road and winter sports only and it has never been off road yet.... Anyway, he was trying to sell me a new filter that he and I both knew that I did not need. I declined the new air filter.

Now, at this point, my oil was drained out and the oil filter was removed and thrown away. He now comes back and states that FORD requires a mid-grade oil for my vehicle and that will be "a few more dollars" for the better oil. I say ok and he pumps in the oil.

The next thing I know he hands me a bill for $54.00!!

I asked how it went from the $22.99 all the way to $54.00?

He says that the coupon is really just a $10.00 off deal and the oil change was $54.00 plus another $10.00 for the 2 extra quarts of oil or $64.00 total for an oil change!!!

I immediately called the FORD dealer from my cell (which is about 1 mile away from the Valvoline oil change facility) and I asked the cost to change the oil and filter on a 2011 Ford Raptor. In less than a minute the tech on the phone says: $48.00 which includes the 7 quarts and OEM filter!

The dealer is $16.00 dollars less than Valvoline!

Even with the Valvoline coupon the dealer is $6.00 less!

When I told the assistant manager that the FORD DEALER would have done it for $48.00 he just shrugged it off...

Live and learn... I will definitely NOT go back to this valvoline facility- It is obvious that they are trying to rip people off. Especially when the dealer is less money!

For now on I will go back to the dealer (or, if I do go back to a quick lube, I will ask for the "FULL PRICE" before they drain out my oil.....)

I hope this helps the next consumer.

Here is my experience at Valvoline Instant Oil Change:

On 12/11 I went to the Instant Oil Change for an oil change and was told that I need a fuel system cleaner. The "Runrite fuel system clean kit" was put in to my car, and the next day my engine light went on, and sputtered on start up. I took the car to the mechanic the next week, on 12/21 and the mechanic reported that there was "a foreign liquid running through the vacuum tube and electrical connector". As a result, I needed to get a new pump, the vacuum line had to be cleaned and I needed a new electrical connector. The repairs the the car totaled $516.00. Since the only fluid that I had put in my car in the last six month or longer was the fuel system cleaner kit, the mechanic deduced that was likely the cause of this issue. He explained if the technician were to pump the fluid too quickly in to the hose, this part would flood and be damaged. I went back to the oil change station at the beginning of January. I went back and forth with the station manager, and he said he would investigate the issue. When we brought the car in he took pictures. It took him and his crew 40 mins to even locate the part of the car that they would need to inspect for damages. He took the damaged part and sent it back to their third party part vendor to check for residues. Now, at the end of January he said that this vendor hasn't found any fluid residue in the part, so he is only willing to refund me the $80 which was the cost of the fuel liquid that they put in to my car that caused the damage in the first place. To me this isn't good enough. I brought the car in for a simple oil change, and I came out with $500 of damages. This is not how a business should operate in my point of view.

I am living paycheck to paycheck as it is, and this added expense is a hardship on me. I find it hard to believe there is such a complete and lack of customer service. Am I just supposed to forget about the damages to my car because they tell me the can't do anything further for me?

I would think twice before driving your car through their door. You never know what type of bills you will end up with. Caution!

Went there for an oil change and didn't hear the filter being taken off or put on. The machine that pumps the oil into your car wasn't making any noise when they were "adding the oil". Two weeks later my oil is filthy and down two quarts this is from a 2011 SUV by the way. Total scam artists didn't do anything and charged me for it.
Do not I repeat DO NOT bring your car there for anything. Jaun and Keneth were the mechanics who worked on it. They should be fired.

This place is not reliable since it changed hands and Valvoline took over. I was watching their employee and saw him start to fill my crankcase with ATF fluid. He got a quart in before I was able to stop him. The motor had to be drained and flushed. When I got home and checked, I found they had forgotten to replace the lower motor cover. When I returned for it they said it was not on the car when I came in. Watch these guys, they pay more attention to selling you the next thing than they do to actually doing the oil change.

You hope when you bring your car in for an oil change at a Lubeexpress ... they are actually doing a chassis lube job, like they are supposed to.

I thought Lubexpress was doing their job until finding our current mechanic and he told me that it looked like my vehicle hasn't been lubed in a year.

I don't believe you can't trust any of these quick lube places ... your best bet is to do it yourself or pay a few extra bucks and bring it to a dealership or a mechanic to have it done correct!

The location always has all the bays working when it's busy or as needed. The staff is friendly and does a fast and accurate job. The prices are comparable but they will do it faster.

PROS: Good service and staff
CONS:
