I had a great experience at Teak, but I feel duped. I took advantage of the customer appreciation day tonight, which has the menu 50% off. The food was great, and I had dinner with my mother. She offered to pay the bill as long as I got the tip. She paid $80 and I left a $20 tip. On the way home, I found it odd that the bill was $80 at 50% off. I checked it and realized that the gratuity was included. Not only that, but the gratuity was added BEFORE the 50% was deducted. So not only did we pay a $21 gratuity on a $59 bill, but we double tipped! And we sat there 10 mins after we paid and got no word from the server about the mistake! So be careful...the food is great but that customer appreciation is a little tricky and Im not sure I will go back after that experience...

Teak, not doubt is one of the best place to dine and hang out in Hoboken. They have a nice variety of Asian fusion on the menu and the prices are just right, Not to mention they have half off the menu on Mondays and Thursdays. Can't go wrong with that. The place itself is one of the most beautiful restaurants/lounges in the metro area. You can tell a lot of thought with into the design and construction of the place. Nice drink menu too. Two drawbacks are the crowd and music For some reason when the place turns into a club on Fri and Sat nights it draws a not so attractive crowd. Plus the music is a little to ghetto for my taste and way too loud. A nice variety would be nice, and themed nights as well. But overall one of the best Hoboken has to offer.

I dont understand why People dislike teak so much. It's an awesome environment first of all. The food couldn't be any better and our server was very formal. Like all restaurants there are those waiters who just don't give any kind of personality in there job, but luckily Holman took care of us. I set up a reservation for 8 on thursday night (half off everything) we got there and our table was ready no problem. They're salads are AMAZING i HIGHLY recommend you try one. I can't complain, our trip to teaks was fun and exciting and i'll definitely be going back.

This is a horrible restaurant. I have been to many five star trendy upscale restaurants in my life and this is no where close to any other them. They are pretentious for absolutely no reason at all. This place is filled with rude, ill-trained, ill-mannered employees. It seems to be no policy set-up for rules because the staff gives inconsistent answers. I had a birthday dinner there on Dec 12 and it was ruined. for the following reasons:

1) The hostess who took my reservation over the phone mixed up the day and instead of Saturday she marked it for Tuesday, Dec 15. Luckily, I called back to ask questions about increasing the size of the party, policy on bringing in a birthday cake from the outside, and cake cutting fees. This is when I was told that there was no reservation for me on Dec 12 and that I couldn't get my original timeslot because they were other large parties. They moved me to 8:30pm on Dec 12 and she told me there was a $3 cake cutting fee period.

2)Later at the restaurant I was told that it would be $3/slice. I was shocked that I would have to pay $60 for them to cut a cake I already bought. I was told that 50% of my party had to be present before we would be seated and when 50% was present they changed it to 80%. We were getting ready to leave and suddenly the table was ready. Go figure!!

3) The lounge seat at the table was soaking wet with alcohol and my friend sat in it. We had to find someone to clean up the area and it took a long time. We had to stand in the meantime.

4) The drink orders were forgotten or mixed up. The excuse they gave was that they were busy with other large parties. Again, they made us feel like our party didn't matter too much to them. Btw, the lychee martini is awful...drinks period are horrible.

5) Food took forever to come out and was just ok. They ran out of sushi so three of my friends had to wait longer. How does a sushi restaurant run out of their main product?!!!!

6) All through dinner they kept rushing us to finish and clearing the table too fast. They brought the check out before my birthday cake so part of my party left and never got to completely celebrate with me. A busboy came to clear the area and I kept telling him that I had a cake coming and we needed the area and he just ignored me as if I were nothing and he continued to clear. He turned to me and said "I"m trying to do my job and you keep rrrrr to me" . Very rude behavior.

7) They brought the cake and still made us leave the area. They put my cake around a statue of buddha and left it unattended. My friend had to stand and make sure no one took any. The manager moved us to another area with chairs but we couldn't enjoy the cake because we couldn't properly celebrate because we were separated.

8) The manager promised us shots for inconviencing us but they never came. We had to look for him to get them and then they weren't that great.

Basically, the entire experience was awful. The staff is rude and lack proper customer service training. The managers aren't that much better. The food and drinks are overpriced for the quality. The lounge chairs are dirty and stained. If you like to be treated badly while spending lots of money, then eat here. Otherwise, don't waste your time.

During a recent happy hour the bar tender informed me that on Thursday nights martinis and entrees are half price. So I invited my g/f and made the reservation. When the martini arrived I looked at it and said to the waitress ??this is not a martini it??s a shooter!!?. Honestly the smallest martini glass I have ever seen. She informed me that because they are half price they are half the size! What kind of bargain is that?

Then we ordered our meal. The appetizer was lettuce wraps with chicken. The lettuce was turning brown and wilted and the stuffing must have been cooked and sitting on the stove for days. Totally inedible. After we ate about 20% of it the waitress came to take it away. I pointed out how bad it looked and tasted. Her reply was ??sorry?. My g/f said based on that, she was glad she didn??t order sushi. The lettuce wraps at Houllian??s are much better and cost less.

The entre of halibut was actually pretty good. Fresh and well prepared, but by that time I had decided it would be my last visit to Teak.

I was surprised when the check came that they didn??t remove the terrible appetizer from the bill. Do yourself a favor and pick one of the good restaurants in Hoboken.

Never go there on a Friday night. The music is TOO loud and the restaurant seating is quite cramped. I went there with three guests and we were sandwiched next to overbooked tables with little or no elbow room. The music from the upstairs lounge was blairing all night and the lighting was poor. It is certainly not worth the menu prices, which would make you think you are in a classy five-star establishment.

Although the decor and interior design was stunning, we waited over an hour for our food. The steak was bland and rough and tasted like it was not seasoned but just thrown in the microwave. The wine selection was mediocre.

I do NOT recommend this place for dining out.

Everything takes forever in this place. It took a long time just to be seated even though we had reservations. On top of that, it was my lovely's bday and we had to sit in this messy corner akongside a bunch of teeny boppers. We ordered wine which took forever to come out, along with the food which was wrong the first time. It is actually pretty expensive for what you are getting. The service is nothing to brag about, and everyone just "hanging out" at the bar and upstairs were corny hoboken yuppies. I had not been here since it first opened a few years ago, and I heard ther food was pretty good, however I was disappointed and relieved when we left. Mediocre at best.

I haven't been to Teak since last winter and promised myself that would be that last time. It was extremely disorganized the last time i had been there and the bartenders were slow as all hell. I decided, against my will, to meet some friends out and that was where they happened to be, and TO MY SURPRISE, i had an amazing time. It wasn't too crowded, I believe because of the festivities that took place during the day in Hoboken, reguardless, the service at the downstairs bar was great and the bartenders had a great attitude all around. Our experience got even better as we moved upstairs to the lounge. The two girls behind the bar were hot, and the dude was funny and entertaining, They seemed to enjoy being there, which made all of the customers want to be there as well. There was some napkin tossing and booty shaking, and my friends and i loved every minute of our time at Teak. We will deff be back soon, if not next weekend, and i guess its deff good to give second, and in this case third chances to a place so beautiful with so much potential. Deff the most beautiful place in Hoboken, looks like they finally got their act together in reference to matching the bartenders with the decor and potential of the restaurant itself.

I WENT TO TEAK A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO, ON A MONDAY NIGHT.. MUST MAKE RESERVATIONS BECAUSE THE PLACE GETS VERY BUSY.. ( WHICH IS A GOOD THING ). WE WERE ON A 20MIN LATE WHICH WE DIDNT MIND BECAUSE NO RESERVATIONS BUT WE HAD DRINKS AT THE BAR WHICH MADE UP FOR THE TIME, THE BARTENDERS WERE VERY FAST AND RELIABLE AND WERE THERE FOR MY NEEDS WHICH I REALLTY LOVED ALOT AND RIGHT OF THE BAT TOLD ME ALOT ABOUT OF THE SERVES IS GOING TO BE..
WE SAT DOWN AND THE SERVER TOOK NO TIME TO TELL US THE SPECIALS FOR THE EVEING IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY MY SERVERS NAME WAS PAUL, BEING HOW BUSY THE PLACE WAS AND THE WAIT EVERYTHING CAME OUT FAST AND ON TIME,
WHEN THE CHECK CAME WE WERE EVEN MORE HAPPY CAUSE WE DIDNT KNOW THAT THE ENTIRE BILL WOULD BE HALF OFF. MY MOTHER COULDNT EVEN BELIEVE A RESTURANT WOULD DO SUCH A THING. THE SERVER MENTIONED THAT THE GRADUITY WAS ALREADY INCLUDED BUT WE STILL TIPPED HIM ON TOP OF THAT,

FOR THE FUTURE TEAK ON THE HUDSON IS NOW MY NEW PLACE TO GO AND HAVE DINNER AT, I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT NIGHT AT ON THE WEEKENDS THERE WAS A UPSTAIRS WITH A LOUNGE AREA, YOU WILL SEE US BACK HERE AGAIN AND NOT JUST ON MONDAY BUT THE WEEKEND AS WELL,.

Went there yesterday night and will never go again.
We were seating outside. A group of girls, obviously friends with the management-of-some-sort that was hanging around, was sitting next to us, and was being extremely loud and obnoxious. Their waiter got them many rounds of free drinks which got them even louder.
The service was very poor. Slow in taking the order, slow in bringing the food. Had to ask 3 times to get some water refilled.

The food was ok for the monday prices. Good thing everything is half price on mondays, otherwise that would be outrageous price for what we got. My steak was cooked as I asked. Too bad it was chewy. The vegetables were not cooked at all. They were warm, but not cooked.

The wine was disgusting, with pieces of cork at the bottom of the glass (which is ok when the wine comes from an actual bottle. This one probably came from a carton pack). The glass was wet inside out.

We were seating on dirty chairs, and our table was not stable. We asked about it, didn't get an answer. Had to resolve to the old foot-on-the-table-leg trick for the whole dinner.

To top all that, for a party of two, the gratuity was added on the check. Not sure that is legal. Anyway, 20% gratuity was way too much for that service

I went to teak last night for a business meeting and had a great experience. I had missed my train and decided to relocate my meeting from the city to Teak, being the convenience and all. I had heard of Teak and how attractive the decor was, but when I walked in, it exceeded any and all expectations I had previously anticipated of the place. As I approached one of the most beautiful bars I had ever seen, accompanied by the most beautiful bartender I had ever seen, I was sold. We had drinks at the bar, and it was the bartender's first day. She was friendly and funny, in addition to being smoking hot. She looked like she stepped out of a playboy magazine if you ask me. The other two girls were nice to look at as well, which any man knows doesn?t hurt the overall ?dining experience?. My business meeting then ventured to a table, the service was excellent; our waiter was sociable and on the ball with everything we ordered. The food was incredible, and overall, made my business meeting go a lot smoother than I had presumed. I will be back; I think I have a new favorite bar to go to. To whom ever does the hiring, keep up the good work?especially with the female bartenders there!!!!

I agree with the person below me. The waitress Tabitha was probably the best waitress I have ever had in my whole life. I liked everything I ordered which were a few sushi rolls and couple app. (don't remember what they were). Teak is pricy but I loved it. Cool atmosphere and I would recommend to a younger crowd.

I agree with the person below me. The waitress Tabitha was probably the best waitress I have ever had in my whole life. I liked everything I ordered which were a few sushi rolls and couple app. (don't remember what they were). Teak is pricy but I loved it. Cool atmosphere and I would recommend to a younger crowd.

.

I love the food and for the most part the service.

I have had several horrible experinces with a bar maid named (Joanna). And on the other hand I have not experinced many servers anywhere in the country as good as Tabitha.

On 5-12-08, I went to Teak for my brother birthday with his friends. From the rude waiter, slow service, overpriced food items for insultingly miniscule portions, dishonest charges on the bill, rude manager and topped off with one party member V O M I T I N G from bad fish before she even left the place!!
Simply the WORST W O R S T dining experience I ever had to endure!!!

I went to Teak for my birthday this past saturday night. It was the worst dining experience of my life. We sat down to our extemely rude waiter who took 20 minutes to get our first round of drinks. We had a table of 9 in which gratiuty was automatically included (which is poo poo for the service we got). $13 for a vodka. And the kicker was $10 for each 32 ounce bottle of water that we didnt even ask for? They kept bringing it out. Not to mention one of my friends got charged for a beer and 3 pieces of tuna he never got. Oh yeah and the previous posts about people getting sick? My friends girlfriend got sick within 30 minutes of eating here. I have lived in hoboken for almost a decade and would recommend several other sushi restaurants (robongi, sushi house, sushi lounge) in a HEARTBEAT over this place. Plus the music is ridiculously obnoxious. I don't mind a little swank, but I don't need to see everyone in their Ed Hardy and Bebe branded T's fist-pumping to the latest KTU jam while I watch my friends get sick from the bad fish they serve here. After waiting 15 minutes to dispute our bill, the only plus side of the night was the fact that the manager (after 2 conversations) knocked 62 dollars off of the bill. Oh did I mention that someone in my party got their credit card run twice? That still has to be sorted out.

Please don't ever go here. Go anywhere but here.

I wish to respond to "lovetoeat9's" above review. When you go to the emergency room or doctor's office complaining of symptoms of food-induced illness, by law, a report is made. If the problem is diagnosed as food p............. and the time frame for the progression of your symptoms leads the doctor to believe a restaurant meal was the source of the food-p............., then officials at the state level are notified and an investigation is begun. If four people got food p............... at the same table from food consumed at this restaurant, the restaurant would have been closed pending results of investigation to prevent others from being infected. Make sense?
The idiot who wrote this review should be ignored. I certainly ignored him/her and found the restaurant to be Ok...nothing great but certainly not the abomination that he/she describes. Let's face it, outside of Cape May and Westfield, there's not too much truly great going on (restaurant-wise) on the west side of the Hudson.

This bar used to be Planet Hoboken and is now River Street. They play all different types of music, techno, reggae, etc. It is a cool place to hang out.

Well where do I start. Me my wife and aonther couple went to teak last friday. Ive heard mixed reviews about this place so I figured let me make my own decision. Mistake number one we got there and a very rude man in a wrinkled suit told us to wait at the bar even though the place was half empty. We had a drink each and was asked to pay the bill right away... "um okay" we were sat after about 20 minutes and began our ordeal... when asking general questions about the menu it seemed like we were intruding on our waitresses time she was snappy and not very helpfull. ok ok our food came and my sushi didnt seem right, the man in the wrinkled suit assured me it was ok (mistake number two) make a long story short it definetly wasnt ok. me and my wife ended up in the emergency room with severe stomach pains and profuse vometing... ( i didnt find out till the next day that the couple we went with had the same great experience in their local emergency room) the doctor told me it was FROM TAINTED FOOD and that the timing of the symptoms coincided perfectly with my dinner... well needless to say i called the restaurant not to complain, not for anything free, but to warn them and maybe check to see if someone else had the same problem, first the woman i spoke to said she herself got sick that same night then she put me on the phone with "the manager" i dont know why he got this title because i dont think he could manage to tie his shoes.. now the story changed he said noone ever got sick there and the girl was lying... "lying??" why would anyone lie about getting sick... then i was told "its ok if i never come back" DONT WORRY ABOUT THAT ONE, and yiou can quote me " I WILL NEVER GO BACK"

I loved the food at Teak. The first time i went was with my co-workers on a Monday. It was a great night, it was 7 of us and we all enjoyed the sushi. I Returned Presidents Monday and couldn't stop bragging about the restaurant to my family. When we went we got seated pretty quickly even though it was packed there. The waitress told me the wait would be long but ; but not this long. Our party ordered 9 rolls and it took us over an hour to get our sushi. We got the appetizers within about a half hour which wasn't bad, so were the drinks service. I was very upset that tables after us got there food, while we were still waiting. When the food came it was great, i couldn't wait to indulge. I was also upset that the tempura and other cooked rolls were so cold. The waitress said it would slow, but i would never of expected that long of a wait. I don't know when i will make a return due to that service. I don't recommend going with a large party, parties over 5 do not get the half of special on Monday's.

Pros: MUSIC WAS GOOD

Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE

Although it is obvious that affiliates of this restaurant have been hilariously and misleadingly inflating reviews on this restaurant, I must say the ambience at Teak was indeed impressive. It had a massive first floor dining room with a giant fish tank that spans the full length of the bar, a nice private area for parties upstairs, and a beautiful view of the Hudson and NYC. But for this great first impression, you will pay with your wallet. The food while fresh was definitely not up to par with the value. Biggest upset was the oyster shooters appetizer: it was about 20 bucks for only 4 mediocre oysters. I don't mind paying good money for pricey oysters like kumamotos, but these were not impressive. We were also let down by the 50% discount on Mondays because our party was larger than 6 people. In my opinion, this is bad business, good for Teak, because the rest of the patrons there (groups less than 6) got a better deal than us and they weren't subjected to imposed gratuity at the end of the night. With all that said, our party still had a great time and the service staff was very nice to us while not as attentive as most other restaurants. Drinks and music were pretty good too. Regardless of the negative criticism, I think people will keep going back to this place because it's an impressive sight to see and for those with company cards and fat wallets, it's no big deal to impress colleagues or a nice date. I'd say this is the perfect place for those who endulge in the superficial lifestyle.

Cons: Overpriced & Sparse Service - when money is good, they probably won't change

Right across the street from Hoboken PATH station. Decor is attractive. Luckily I was in the party of company paid credit card - otherwise, price was on the higher end. Creative sushi, but someone like me, who favours traditional sushi pieces, may not return for food.

I recently visited Hoboken's famous TEAK restaurant and was very disappointed. I will admit, the interior decoration is beautiful, but that's where your experience will stop.

Seating:
My group was seated outside along the sidewalk. It was a pleasant night with a cool breeze, so I figured it would be enjoyable. What I didn't expect was to sit on an incline or decline depending on which side of the table I sat at. I do not recommend sitting outside if you wish to dine at this establishment. In fact, there should be absolutely no option to sit outside. Trust me when I tell you, it's horrible. Basically, if your drink is full, it will spill over the side.

Menu:
The menu selections are excellent. The combinations of sushi are interesting as well, but the prices are ridiculous. $27.00 for a half inch of fish and rice is insane. Even basic rolls, which typically cost $5/$6 are marked up to $12, which is what you would expect to pay for a finer and more exotic sushi roll.

Food:
The quality of food is mediocre at best. The sushi is poor and is overpowered by incredibly starchy rice and there's alot of it too. The menu of exotic rolls looks excellent, but you're wasting your money. I sampled some sushi, but had Salmon for dinner. The salmon was overcooked with crispy edges and a dry center.

Drinks:
The drink menu consists of Martinis. That's it. They offer whatever you would like, but you certainly seem overwhelmed when looking at a list of only Martini's. I opted for the Mojito and it was the best part of my meal. The drinks were good and decently priced (compared to Manhattan prices)

Service:
If I'm at the diner, I expect my waitress to be uncertain about the specials or how the food is prepared. If I'm at a so-called fancy restaurant, I expect the waiter to know this menu perfectly. Our waiter frequently forgot about our drinks, didn't know the menu and had to view notes about the specials.

Overall:
Go somewhere else until management is changed.

I took my boyfriend and his mom to dinner at Teak last Saturday night. I had read so much about the decor (lighting, music, statues, wall fishtank), that I had to check it out. We sat outside to enjoy the weather, but this is NOT recommended as the tables were on such a slant. I had to constantly ensure that my martini didn't topple over! I also was sitting on a metal plate covering some huge sidwalk hole (I'm sure)...which would bend and bounce when some walked or moved his/her chair on it - scary. Service was marginal - our waitor had to be flagged down a few times. As far as the food, we mostly enjoyed the bread! We all have had better salmon (entree), sushi, and figs with proscuitto (appetizer). I myself ordered the sushi and was VERY disappointed, especially for what it cost. I have a had great sushi, and this tasted like the prepackaged kind from the supermarket. Very inventive sushi options, but the rice seemed wrong and the fish marginal. I would recommend this place to grab a drink - stick to hanging out inside/enjoying the decor at the bar!

Honestly, this place is gorgeous. The decor and ambience are extraordinary, however, the food and service were literally mediocre. The appy lettuce wraps came with wilted lettuce and the filling looked like my dog's mushed up evening meal, no joke (and didn't taste much better). Our waiter knocked over my martini and my man's beer and laughed stating "s%$* happens" , not exactly professional service do you think?
I mean I think I am easy going, but we paid good money to have mediocre customer service.
And speaking of money, the drinks are outrageously priced 13 bucks for a regular ol' dirty martini, come on.
The only reason I'd go back would be for the decor and cool funk music. Otherwise they can forget it.

Went on a weeknight. Good sushi, but very standard fare. For these prices, it should at least be something different than what you can get everywhere else. Decor was beautiful - love the aquarium behind the bar. I probably would have gone back if I wanted an expensive night out, but the service unfortunately was horrific. Bored and unattentive servers and bartenders and rude behavior by management. Overall, wouldn't recommend it unless you really like a serving of "attitude" with your sushi.
