This restaurant has been closed and torn down with the dive of a motel it was attached to. Move along - there's nothing to see here.

I am Japanese, but have been living many years in New Jersey, and I have to say that Ichiban restaurant is one of my favorites. The food is good, service (especially Ms Michiko is an expert waitress!) is also good. What else?? They have a vast choice of food, to meet everybody's taste. I like to go on the weekends, while they have a weekend menu specialfor 17 dollars and you eat alooot. It's worth the money. Many japanese restaurants are owned by Koreans nowadays, but Ichiban is a real authentic Japanese owned restaurant. If you really want to eat authentic house cooking I recommend this place.!!!

If you are looking for a decent hibachi place, then definitely check this place out. Not the most outstanding experience I have ever had, but the food is always consistently good. The prices are reasonable and you leave full with the hibachi dinners (or lunches). The sushi is fresh and also good- though I have had better elsewhere and I personally would rather come here for the hibachi then sushi. It is usually pretty easy to get a table and the place is usually pretty quiet. The staff is friendly and very helpful. All around good meal and consistent experience.

Ichiban Japanese Restaurant in Hackensack was one of the first Japanese restaurants I experienced in New Jersey. I was totally mesmerized by the decor that included a real Japanese flavour to the place.

I know what Japanese food tastes like coming from a very Asian culture so I knew that Ichiban needed to impress me with its food. There is a choice to have a traditional sushi meal or go to the hibachi bar. If you haven't experienced a hibachi meal at all, you need to rectify it and Ichiban is good place to start. Every ingredient is fresh and you can definitely taste it as they prepare your meal right in front of you. Even better are the tricks the chef performs while cooking. He entertains and feeds you at the same time.

If hibachi isn't your cup of tea, you can then just order from their vast selections in their menu. You can't go wrong with anything you choose from as, again, the food is fresh and fantastic.

The staff is very friendly and courteous to all their customers. The restaurant itself is very big and spacious. Even better, it's connected to the Best Western Hotel so you can imagine that all types of people drop in to this restaurant. But watch your pocketbook. It can get expensive, especially with the hibachi meal. The lunch, however, is really worth it, though.

I've enjoyed myself every time I've gone to Ichiban Japanese Restauarnt and have yet to be disappointed.

PROS: Fresh food, hibachi, lunch selection
CONS: Expensive
