I went into this place just to look at the dogs, fell head over heals for a doberman puppy and got ripped off. First off they woudnt tell me the price directly of the dog the sales woman had to go to the back and talk with someone. Then i was told she needed to see a debt or credit card before giving me the price. The price turned out to be $1800 which she claimed was reasonable for an akc certified doberman plus i would be getting alot of extras like training exc..I made it clear that couldnt afford that price so she told me i could take out a credit card with them . Well that credit card was full of hidden fees and high intrest rates not to mention they charged extra for shipping fee's because the dog came from Arizona! The dog was held by them for 4 days before i could pick her up and when i did she was sporting a large scar on her head supposedly a common thing for puppys as well as loads of dandruff. Well when i took her to the vet that my other dogs go to not the vet that they work with(because the vet they provided i felt was untrust worthy) i was told was consistant with the dog being hit in the head with a blunt object. We also discovered that our doberman puppy had nutrition problems and had likley been underfed not to mention she needed to be treated for mange! When i called to speak with them about these issues they refused to return my calls and claimed the dog must have gotten mange else where. They refused to refund me any money citing that their vet had given her a clean bill of health.A REPUTABLE PLACE WOULD GIVE YOU A SET PRICE UP FRONT.DONT FALL IN LOVE WITH THE PUPPY BEHIND THE GLASS AND LET IT BLIND YOU INTO GETTING SCAMED.

American Puppy Club was the best buy i have ever made for my family. I have two little girls ages 5 and 8 and for Christmas I saw the American Puppy Club ad in the star ledger. On Christmas morning I was given a crate with all toys I picked out (christmas themed ofcourse) and the girls cried when they saw the cute little yorkie waiting for them. This kennel offers boarding for our upcoming trip we will be taking in March and also free life-time training. I still go back ever so often and see Darlene who sold me this dog! All the trainers are so sweet and give little Shelby cookies. This past Halloween I even bought a costume for my dog. There has been no health problems yet, and whenever I have a question I call right up and they offer me the advice I need (especially during the house breaking months!) Shelby is adjusting just fine, and this situation would be immensely different if it weren't for my choice of choosing American Puppy Club.

Ratings_icons Buyer Beware

Anyone who wrote a positive review either got lucky or works there. This is a puppy mill, all the dogs come from puppy farms in the midwest. They tell you to take the puppy to the vet (one they recommend) and they will reinburse you if there are any problems. You'll never see a dime and if you're lucky enough to get anything it will be a fraction of what you spent. The first tip off should have been how quickly they drop the price, started at $2800 and in 15 minutes was down to $800.

I purchased 3 dogs from this KENNEL, yes, it's a kennel, the license is hanging right on the wall for the public to see! I highly recommend them and LOVE all three of my dogs. They help me with training, taught me how to housebreak, groom, they board my babies for me when I go away, gave me referrals for vets and groomers and my dogs are BEAUTIFUL and I know many others that are happy with their dogs as well. One of my dogs cost $200. another was $400, and the other was $1400. Did they have more expensive puppies? Yes, but I CHOSE not to spend that much money and selected within my price range. Some of these reviews are ridiculous!.....American Puppy Club ROCKS!!! If you want a great puppy, don't walk, RUN to American Puppy Club and you will be happy with your decision!

I purchased a female rottweiler back in november of 08. had so many problems ranging from entropion $900, testing for a nuerological disorder $3,500, mange $500. Though it has cost me tons, they did do right by me and was order the opportunity to speak with the breeder after threatening an article in a local newspaper and getting peta involved. I have since recieved another dog from them free of charge in addition to all my vet bills being paid.

I went here about 4 years ago looking for a golden retriever. The first thing they did was tell me how their dogs don't come from puppy mills. I thought it was strange they told me this when I walked in the door. They had 1 golden there at the time and it was $2,000. That was more then I wanted to spend. I found 1 in the asbury park press for $350 and she has been a great healthy dog. I since have found out that all their dogs come from puppy mills and I have heard horror stories about this place. I am glad I did not buy from them. Be very careful.

Ratings_icons Wonderful Experience

Dolce D.

I had been thinking about purchasing or adopting a dog for the longest time. I had gone to countless pet stores only to be disappointed by the price. Finally, I decided to adopt but wasn't having a very good experience with that option. That was mostly because by the time I'd call about a dog he/she had already been adopted. Recently while going through the newspaper, I saw an ad for American Puppy Club and decided to inquire about the dogs they had available. When I seen that they had dogs for $199, I got pretty excited. About a week after my inquiry, I received an email from them inviting me to come see their place. I went there with plenty of hesitation because I had read so many terrible stories (on this site) about both them and about purchasing a puppy from any pet shop. Once I got there, I looked around at the very clean place and viewed each and every dog. A salesperson asked if I needed help and I told her I was looking for a cheap dog (lol). She brought out a beautiful 4 month old Pomeranian mix and I immediately fell in love. About 3-4 days later I returned with excitement because she was still there. They groomed my new baby and put her right in my arms. I handled the papework and was explained everything I needed to know about training, feeding and medicine. The fees totaled about $800 which was a lot more than I had expected. But it did include her large crate, food, bed, vitamins, toys (which she loves), food bowl, brush, leash and collar. My dog seemed to love the employees (onein particular). Overall, I had a great experience. She is doing great! She's healthy, friendly, very obedient and playful. I'm really having a terrific experience. I have decided not to use their vet for the free first visit that they offered just to make sure I get honest answers and opinions. However, I am sure everything is fine.I'm sorry I wrote so much, but it was very important for me to share my experience. Perhaps this might help someone like me who was terrified after reading some of these posts and others like them regarding other pet shops. I understand that my experience might be different from others so always use caution. If something seems wrong, it just might be.

Ratings_icons Don't fall for the puppy behind the glass window!

Danielle R.

About a month ago I bought a beautful pomerian puppy. The only reason I went to American puppy club is because of there add. They false advertise in the add stated puppy for 199.00 and up well that's a complete lie. My puppy ended up being over 2,000. After I was in a waiting area with my pup max for over an hour they told me he was 3,000 and gave me a Christmas deal of 2,000. Me being an animal lover agreed. Not only was a scammed in the price I was also scammed in there cage. The toys are straight out of an infants crib and my dog has no use for them. Don't fall for there free vet. The one I took max to in Neptune has to be payed of by this place I didn't trust him and that same week went to my own. From what I have read thank god my dogs in good health. I'm so overwhemled that he came from a puppy mill. My story has good reason just cause the puppy is so cute don't be fooled. The people are that run the stores are in such guilt that they had called me twice a week till I had to block there number asking how the puppy is they no there doing something very wrong just by the sound in there voice. If I wasn't so in love with max from the moment I layer eyes on him I would have never bought. And one more thing about there bank and a so called credit card u only have three months to pay it of or u will finance charges. Beware for the cute pup behind the glass window.

I went to this store in search of the perfect puppy and found him! Then was told that the male Italian Greyhound was three thousand dollars! Fortunately, I had done a lot of research on Italian Greyhounds and knew the price was ridiculously out of range. After telling them repeatedly that the puppy was perfect, but I would not pay that much, they bargained with me like I was buying a car! They ended up going down to eight hundred dollars. I told them I would get back to them, went home, researched their store and found this site. Forget it! I would love to give the perfect little guy a home, but I don't support what this place stands for.

Their staff was nice, but like I said, they were all like slimey car dealers.

We purchased a boxer from this store on July 1 2008. My family immediately fell in love with this little girl. We took her home four days after purchasing since we had a vacation planned. They offered to hold the dog, after we paid, until we return. We came back on July 5th and picked up our little girl. We brought her home and she was sick from the getgo. My wife called me one evening four days after we picked her up while I was at work and told me the dog was very ill. I rushed home and took her to the 24 hour vet in Tinton Falls. They immediately put the dog in iscolation and we were only allowed to see her for 30 minutes a day for 5 days. Cost to treat the phenomia she came down with was in excess of $3K. the store informed us that they would only reimburse us 2X the cost of the dog, needless to say we were out of pocket a few hundred. American Puppy Club did reimburse us quickly. and were very sorry about the entire situation. We then did a little further investigation as to where the dog came from, as well as all of their boxers offered for sale. They all come from a glorified puppy mill in Kansas. I used Google Earth to view the actual location and was appauled to see a giant warehouse. Be very careful buying from this place, immediately take the dog to your own vet, ps. do not use Middletown vet, they are associated, and request a check up and if any problems take the dog back immediately.

I am only eleven years old and got connected to this dog so quickly. Now that he is gone I am telling you never to buy from here , unless you want to go through what i did.

I gave these folks every opportunity NOT to sell me a special order puppy if everything they promised was not true: a reputable breeder, akc registered, never coming from a puppy mill or auction etc...purebred, healthy and all the rest one would want in a puppy they pay top dollar for.Needless to say, they totally misrepresented themselves and my puppy who was sick,he came from a puppy mill(I tracked down the place on line and called the man where the pup came from) found out this guy sells dogs to auctions. The vet gave me a letter stating the dog was unfit for sale and alluded to the fact the most of the dogs they see from American Puppy Club are sick.I offered to keep the dog but requested my money back as they charged me for a top of the line purebred puppy and sold me one as described above. They were cruel and said the dog was their's and they would sell it and at this writing I still haven't received any refunds. It has been 10 days and I was told it would be taken care of within that amount of time. I am still heartbroken, out several hundred dollars for all the equipment they sold me (which they said was included)and feel like a louse for not being able to save the little guy. BUY FROM A BREEDER DIRECT. The breeder will interview you and make sure it is a good match so you can live happily ever after with your pet. If they dont, caveat emptor.

Buy at your own risk. More than likely you will be dissatisfied, but on the hook because you will fall in love. Bad doctor, bad place, unethical, all negative. The only good part is the dog was worth keeping, but if I had known what I know now, would not own the dog...it was given to me as a gift, and well, can't penalize a living creature for unethical people. They get you so be careful.

I brought home my darling boston terrier puppy named sam from them. I have nothing but nice things to say they have been so helpful in helping us with her from day one. I was recommended to them by family and have recommended many friends since. Their staff is amazing and their store is cleaner than most peoples homes.

Every negative review written about this store is true!!! We just purchased a puppy, and the next day he started coughing, within three days he came down with pneumonia. My older dog, 3-1/2 years, was exposed to him, and she came down with kennel cough, and is now being treated. The puppy was in the hospital for three days, is now home, but is on all kinds of medicines. We were told we would be refunded all the money spent on the vet; however, that is not even the point.

These people do not care about these animals, they are nothing but third party puppy mills.

They should not be able to be licensed until they pass a very strict inspection! A proper ventilation system, reputable breeders, cleanliness, and they should not allow anyone who walks into t he store to handle the dogs unless they are seious about buying one. They should be wshing their hands before picking up the puppies.

PLEASE DO NOT BUY A PUPPY FROM THIS STORE!!!

Ratings_icons Pet adoption is a pain in the neck

heidi m.

I'm sick and tired of hearing people complain about buying puppies from breeders. All I ever hear is don't buy a puppy from National Breeders or don't buy puppies from a pet store you should adopt a puppy instead of buying one, there are so many puppies and dogs that are put to sleep, save them. My husband and I recently tried adopting a puppy from an adoption center, their criteria for adoption is so strict it's a turn off. We'd much rather pay for the puppy that our family wants, than have someone tell us that we're not qualified to adopt a pet because our youngest child is 6 years old. These adoption centers are so picky about who adopts their animals, I don't want to adopt one I'm all for buying the puppy that my family and i want without a hassel.

These puppies all come from puppy mills! Every single person that works at this store is a LIAR! From the moment you walk into the store it is a scam. You cant help to fall in love with the cute puupy behind the window.. If we keep purchasing puppies from place like this it will never end puppy mills. These puppies poor parents are kept in cages their whole life never even touching grass, playing with a toy, knowing what a treat is and living in deplorable conditions. ALL FOR MONEY! If I had only knew then what I know now... The dog we had purchased from there has had numerous health and pyschological problems. These people that work and own this place should be ashamed of themselves.. You are just as guilty as the millers that breed these poor babies...You can adopt a "puppy mill rescue" just like I did this past month and not be supporting places like this but saving a animals life. Please dont make the same mistake many of us have made. This place is a scam and should be shut down for GOOD.(BTW) They have changed their name many times..

My story sounds just like all the others you'll find online, unfortunately. I wish we had done our homework before we went here. We were assured by the people there that they were a reputable organization, and that their puppies were guaranteed to be pure breeds--not from puppy mills. We bought an adorable shih-tzu and paid way too much money, but with all the guarantees and paperwork we were provided with, we trusted them. When we took our puppy to the vet, he was deemed unfit for sale. He had kennel cough, and the vet said he could tell this puppy had surgery on his nose to repair something with his nostrils, and that it was a botched job. We contacted National Breeders, and they offered to pay the vet bill if we faxed it to them. (For the record, it's been 10 months and we never received a dime). It was also discovered that our puppy has an ankle/joint problem, and will need corrective surgery. When we called to follow up with National Breeders, they said they would replace him. Sure, after my children are attached to this puppy---we can't just replace him. Animal lovers know that pets become a part of your family! Besides, I wouldn't take another animal from these unethical people. They are not to be trusted. If you search online, you will find many links that take you to information regarding National Breeders. They have complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau and others. Please don't fall for their act. They are dishonest and you'll be sorry.

PROS: Cute puppies
CONS: Overpriced, puppy mill, defective puppies, dishonest, scammers
