I have been going here for over 10 years. They mis-diagnosed my Shih-Tzu who I've had for 5 years, several times. One day they had him there all day doing tests and finally sent me to Red Bank Veterinary Hospital. They are wonderful there! So I usually go to Red Bank for the harder cases but back to Berg to pick up prescriptions or routine stuff. Today I went because my dog was not able to hold his urine and hadn't been drinking water. Well, no one was in the waiting room. One client had left with his dog. I saw 3 doctors not doing anything so I assumed we'd get taken care of pretty quickly. NOPE. I was in the exam room waiting and heard the doc say this one is leaking urine. Then I saw a doc take a folder into the break room with a bag of crackers. I kept seeing the hand go in the crackers. 10 minutes later, still no one coming in. I asked a technician if there was a problem and if there was I could come back. No, the doc is studying your dog's folder. Still sitting there eating her crackers. Finally I got fed up and said I am leaving. You can stop reading the f'n folder. I told the receptionists I had an 11:20 apt and the doc is eating and I can't wait. I get told she's ready now. I said too late! If she couldn't respect my and my dog's time I don't want her working with my dog. Dog's are nervous waiting around and this was for no good reason. She just did not care. She was new there too. I never saw her before. They always have new vets probably right out of school. A big waste of time! Never again. They lost a very good client as I have spent thousands there over time!

I called Berg Hospital early Tuesday morning to try and make an appointment for a cat I had found on the street who was dragging its back legs ( the sign of a possible stroke).
I explained the situation to the very rude receptionist and asked if I could bring the cat in to office for an examination ( I picked this particular vet as it was close to my home in Parlin and I knew how to get there) - the receptionist was not sympathetic to my plight and told me she could not help me and I should try the vet in Redbank, N.J. ( which is about an hour away). Nothing I said would move her to fit us in at any time. I finally hung up in disguest. I called 4 Paws vet in Englishtown and they were only too glad to move some things around and fit us in so this poor cat didn't have to suffer any more then she already had.
If the receptionist at Berg is any indication of the rest of the staff, I feel sorry for anyone who takes his/her pet to this hospital.

After Waiting for 2 Hrs. My mom finally got in to see the Dr. for our dog who for the past 3 months has been scratching and gnawing non stop. When she first went a few months ago to see what was going on she was told that he had a skin allergry, she was given a medicated shampoo and also special food incase it was due to that as well. Upon her second visit about a month ago the Dr. could not again distinguish what was wrong with our dog so my mom was given an antibiotic and told to keep using the medicated shampoo. My mom and I have for the past 3 months twice a week been giving our dog a bath first with flea shampoo and then with the medicated shampoo. all this time there have been no fleas and the shampoo is not working. The other day after going, for what I am hoping is the last time, the Dr. barely looked at our dog and said that he has dandruff and that she now needs to use another medicated shampoo. Upon using the shampoo our dog is still not better and while playing with him the other day I noticed a giant circular soar on his chest. It's amazing that I'm not even a vet and I'm pretty sure I figured out that the dog has ring worm. For a vet not to notice that I think is pretty rediculous. Save your time and money and find a different vet.

I have a 2 year old lab who has been vomiting for 4 days and was
treated by the vet that I usually take my animals to, for infection.
I took the dog to Berg for second opinion and was diagnosed
with foreign body in the intestines right away and was confirmed by Xray. Dr.Berg did the surgery and saved my dog. My Thunder came home the next morning and the happiest dog ever. No
complaints.. Best care you ever get

I absolutely love this place. I have six cats and 3 dogs.
I have been going to this place for past 15 years. Very
polite and caring people. Dr.Berg did cystotomy for my dog Buster. Buster started straining really bad and the associate who
saw him diagnosed right away and surgery was performed that
afternoon. He is back to his normal self the next morning. Really
caring vets. It always makes me so comfortable that I have my pets in the care of Dr.Berg and his caring and supporting staff.

I have been bringing my dog to Berg for 12 years, since he was a puppy. I also began bringing my cat there 5 years ago. However, I am currently seeking a new veterinarian, and am having all of my animals' records pulled from Berg ASAP.

In March of this year, my happy, playful, energetic 12-year-old dog collapsed very suddenly in the middle of a walk, after having a black stool. I called Berg to get the emergency numbers they provide (because it was after hours) and ended up rushing Chuck to the emergency hospital in Iselin (which was like the 5th circle of hell FYI - please don't even subject your animals to that place). They did basically nothing after keeping us for 4 hours, and told me to follow up with Berg in the morning. First thing in the morning I called and brought Chuck in to Berg, and we were there literally all day, from 9am to 6pm/7pm. They ran a million tests, did x-rays and an ultrasound, and still found NOTHING to explain why my dog was bleeding into his intestines. They were incredibly sloppy when they shaved him for the ultrasound, nicking him in several places. They sent me home to wait at that time, and told me they would call within the hour. 4 HOURS LATER I finally got someone to speak to me. I kept calling and being blown off, even though they knew very well how upset and worried I was for my Chuck. Finally someone spoke to me and told me they still found nothing, and referred me to Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls. So basically, after an entire day of NOTHING, they ended up sending us to GSVS anyway! What a huge waste of both mine and Chuck's time (and a ridiculous amount of money).

The other thing that they kept doing all day that angered me to no end was saying to me "Well, he IS 12 years old." As if they means I should just give up?? Horrible, HORRIBLE way to treat patients.

In the time that we spent waiting around at Berg, Chuck got progressively worse. If they would have referred us to GSVS immediately, perhaps Chuck would not have nearly died. Because when we got him to GSVS after an entire day of nothing at Berg, I wasn't given much hope. He needed a blood transfusion, was weak and not eating. They had to do an additional ultrasound because the quality of the one that came from Berg was so muddled they couldn't see anything.

I was basically told that there was a very good chance Chuck would die, and they didn't have an explanation or a diagnosis.

Chuck was in the hospital for a week, had a blood transfusion and fluid treatment, and eventually was stable enough to bring home with medications and a special diet. However, I firmly believe, had we gotten him to GSVS more quickly, instead of wasting an entire day at Berg, his treatment could have begun sooner and he could've started recovering that much sooner.

I will never go back to Berg. When I called to tell them that, and to explain why, I was met with resistance and attitude, and they refused to release my animals' records to me so I could bring them to a new vet. After 12 years coming here, I am so disappointed and disillusioned - and still angry at the way we were treated, both human and dog.

I started switching my animals over from other vets. I have 4 dogs and each were going to different vets. I know strange.....

I have some back end knowledge of the care that is given behind the scenes. When one of my rescue dogs became ill, I was going to be charged an emergency fee of about $100 at his regular vet, I called, they made a same day appt for him, no emergency fee.

I Cannot understand how anyone can have anything negative to say about Dr. Berg and his staff. Emergency appointments are made even on short notice and no one is every turned away. He took care of my first dog who died of cancer and did everything he could to make her last days comfortable and his staff stood by our side when she had to put her down. He cured my second dog with was diagnosised with cancer and when we sent into heart failure/stroke 4 years later she was rushed in and taken on the stop. He could not save her but his staff comforteb my daughhter and his assistant stayed with her until I arrived. I would never use another vet My heart is grateful for Dr. Ber and his staff for all the wonderful things they do for my pets.

I have been at Berg Animal Hospital since 2005. It is a wonderful hospital. All my animals are patients there. Some with ailments -some in perfect health. I happen to be one of those people that are overly emotional concerning my animals, which i know can be very trying for people to deal with. They have always expressed utter patience with me. My animals are much better behaved than I. They call me at home with lab results, even status updates if my animal is there over night or just to check in on how my animals are doing. I appreciate the kindness, care and patience they have extended to both myself and my cat and 2 dogs. For me there is no better. THANK YOU !!!!!

Dr. Berg saved the life of my cat, Simon, in 2003. When the diagnosis could not be made by another vet he did make the diagnosis right away and operated and removed the thread he had swallowed. Simon is still perfectly fine. He is in practice since 1963 at this location. Now he is taking care of my diabetic cat, Queenie, and taking phone calls every week while she gets adjusted to how much insulin, etc. I am a former registered nurse of 45 years in practice, so take my word for it. Your pet could not be in better hands.

My dog had a wart removed from her left ear. After a week I had to bring her back to have the stitches removed from the ear. I was left in the waiting room for over 45Min's,and then for them to tell me that the doctor just went in to surgery. What kind of operation are they running? I was so angry that I told them that I would remove the stitches myself.

I have been a customer for 16 years and the place has really gone down hill over the last couple of years. I was kept so long t my last appointment that the staff actually told me to go home. When I called 3 weeks later with an emergeny they told me they could see Friday evening (I called Wed). When I told them that my dog had an open festering wound on his face, AND that I was the same person they told to go home a few weeks ago, they just told me to call Red Bank. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

I have been a client here for 14 years. We are moving out of the area and this vet is one of the few things that will be missed when we move. They have taken care of all my loved animal companions. Those who are still with me and those who have passed on. Dr. Berg is so experienced and knowledgeable and truly cares about the animals he sees, even personally calling on his days off to check up.

The long time members of the front desk and vet techs know my cats by name and I couldn't ask for better help when I need something or have had an emergency.

I brought my dog there for a check up and the dog had crystals in her urine. He put her on medicine and then another medicine and now we are on the 3rd medicine. That is 3 times he charged for the visit, medicine, and the urine tests. It seams to me that all he wants to do is make as money as possible.I am down $500.I asked the doctor if he wants me to give him money to get the dog better and he said thats not the case.I could have had a heart transplant done and over with faster, while my dog is not feeling right

I've been going to Berg for 20 years. They used to have staff that were concerned about the people in the waiting room. You don't get that now. I would not recommend this place, it's not worth the aggravation dealing with their untrained support staff.

I've been going to Berg Animal Hospital for a very long time and have had cats with big health issues. The staff has always demonstrated how much they sincerely care about your companion animal and you. The facility is comfortable, a tiny bit old-fashioned but I LIKE that because the care is not about charging huge fees to pay for fancy facility but about reasonable charges for great care. If a cat has needed highly specialized tests, they recommend where to go. It is not a 24 hour hospital but if that is needed we are close to Red Bank Animal Hospital in Tinton Falls who can handle middle of night emergencies. My cats and I are very comfortable with Berg Animal Hospital, the doctors and staff.

I have been bringing my cats and ferrets to them for 13 years. They are very caring and take their time with your animal. Dr. Berg even called on a Sunday, his day off, a few times because we were out, to see how my cat was doing after he saw her. He really cared. Great place and reasonable prices.

Berg Animal Hospital has been nothing but great to my dog. Sheactually likes to go to the vet (probably because they give her cookies). the vet is very gentle and nice with her. he is very informative about preventitive medicines and procedures. They are very upfront with their pricing as well. I will be using them for a long time.

I bring my dog here regularly for care - they go out of their way to take care of both the pet and the pet owner. When my dog got sick they had late hour care and the doctor even called me at home the next day. I get annual shots here and also have the regular tests done. My dog is in great health because of the good care given by Berg. They are very reliable and caring group of doctors and staff.

PROS: Caring

Thank you berg animal hospital. The doctors here know their animals and will treat your dog or pet to the best of their ability before charging you extra. The doctors gave my dog the needed pills that she was having with her stomach. My dog has been jumping around and is the same as she was before. Thanks again.

Thank you berg animal hospital. The doctors here know their animals and will treat your dog or pet to the best of their ability before charging you extra. The doctors gave my dog the needed pills that she was having with her stomach. My dog has been jumping around and is the same as she was before. Thanks again.

I went in to pick up cat food and they were very helpful and had it waiting for me at the front desk. Very nice eveb though my cat was not one of their regular customers.

Berg Animal Hospital is a great place to bring your pets when they are ill, or just to get check ups or shots. The staff are very friendly people, always ready to answer your questions, and you will feel very comfortable that your pet is in good hands and being well taken care of! Definitely recommend to family and friends.
