This place is horrible! I have never worked there or had any interaction with this place or employees until about 6 months ago when they were rude to me. I never thought about it again and I simply did not adopt a dog. So, today my girlfriend wanted to adopt a dog and cat instead of buying them from a breeder. So we went to this shelter (I wanted to prove my point) the employees were rude to us. They told us the animals that were available were sick. The staff was not easily willing to share any information about the pets or how the animals would behave with children. And the prices were not worth it when you can get a pet with papers from a good breeder who is friendly and willing to share their knowledge with us. Go to a breeder who business it is to sale animals instead of someone who says they business is not selling but they collect a check from selling dogs. I am not a breeder, just some dude who wants a pet. And no I do not want anything from you but I do want you to know how you made me feel.

They don't care about their dogs. It's a business. Don't believe anything they say about their dogs because they can't back any of it up. I got a call from the Director who told me "they aren't responsible for anything they say about the dog." In other words, they can make up stories about the dog to get you to take it, and then they'll take it back without giving you money back for it.

Last September (2009), we adopted a dog from this shelter. She came to NJ from a shelter in Georgia. We original went to visit a dog we saw on their website, but that dog had already been adopted. We ended up with our lab/shepherd mix. WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE HER!! The staff at the shelter knew we were disappointed about missing out on the original dog we had gone to see, and they went above and beyond to help us find another. While the shelter is old and could use some work, we found the staff very friendly and would definitely go back if the need ever arose again.

Animal Adoption Center is a warm loving environment to get a pet. They take their adoption process very seriously and attempt to carefully screen all potential homes. When in doubt they will not put a member of their community in harms way. Their staff is terrific with the animals and their new director is so hands on. He may be one of the nicest and most dedicated people I have ever met. Please check them out for your next addition. I have volunteered here with my son and can not think of enough great things to say. Do not be fooled by the condition of the aging facility. Judge by its heart not its house. All these animals really need is shelter, food, and a lot of love. And if you can donate it is always appreciated and put to good use.

The review titled "What an Awful Place" is right on the money. This place is disgusting - I used to volunteer there. One time, a bunch of kittens were sick and they did not get the proper medical care. We had to watch them suffer and die, because the cat manager refused to exert the energy to help. The food they feed the dogs is the cheapest, low quality sh!t. For water, they would fill a dirty, grimy bucket with hose water. Everyone was too lazy to clean the dog cages. It reeked of feces constantly. The staff were too busy smoking or eating to care. They hire dope heads and low class trash that don't give a damn about anything except for their paycheck. They keep the bad dogs in the back and the volunteers are informed that they are not allowed to walk them. Many people do not know about this room because there is a big door covering it, right after the cages for the dogs in the kennel end. As for the people who donate - please do not give these crooks money. Give them nutritious dog and cat food, blankets for the animals so they don't have to lay in their own feces, toys for the dogs, treats, leashes, and collars. Do you want to know what they do with the money you give for the animals? During my duration there, they have remodeled the front office about 3 or 4 times. Nice to know you're paying to improve the break room for these slobs, isn't it?

I visited 3 shelters in S Jersey today and this was the best one. They didn't have the exact kitten I was looking for but one of the employees ("Chris") took my info and gave me her card so I could contact her in the future to see if more kittens have arrived. She told me several times "I really want to find you a buddy". She was caring, knowledgeable and listened to my needs. Unlike some of the places, she didn't make me feel badly for wanting to wait for exactly the type of kitten I want. She even listened to me as I talked about cats I've had in the past. The dogs we saw were kept in large, clean kennels outdoors. I witnessed volunteers take one to be exercised in the nice park adjacent to the shelter. The kennels and the dogs were clean and dogs were healthy looking, active and friendly. We spent a lot of time in the "cat room" which was air conditioned, clean and loaded w/ well-maintained cat "furniture" for lounging and climbing. The cats were all relaxed and appeared happy and healthy and my daughter and I were permitted to give them lots of attention. There was a "kitty door" which allowed the cats the option of going out to a large enclosed outdoor pen. The pen looked new and also had areas for climbing and lounging. A few cats were not in the common room, but kept in cages. The cages and the cats were clean. I am extra-sensitive to odors and I didn't detect any odor at all in the facility. I wonder if some of the bad reviews here are from people who have been turned down for adoption of a pet and this is their way of "getting back" (???)

These people understand animals and animal owners. They weren't judgemental and truly wanted me to find the best fit for my family. They work tirelessly to ensure that the animals are cared for and go to loving families. They take "hard to place" animals and ensure that they are not put to death.

What a sad place. The staff does what they can with what they have available. It is a perfect place to rescue a pet though. So many sad dogs that need a home and some love. We pop in just to visit and give out dog biscuits.

I would like to start off by saying this is one of the nastiest adoption centers I have ever stepped foot into. ! i don't have a clue as to how they pass inspection. 2 every single individual especially the supervisor was extremely rude and unprofessional. 3 the animals all seem undernourished and mistreated. This place is appalling and i would if it wasn't illegal free all those animals because living on the streets would make me happier than having to live in that dump. Rude nasty homely people , such a sin!

This is the organization where I adopted my puppy. They ask only for a small donation and they make sure that all of the shots are up to date before you adopt. The animals are very well cared for and they even allow the animals to interact with each other. This is a good thing if you already have other animals at home. They even 'fix' your dogs (or cats) for free when they are old enough.
