You'll find yourself in a good argument if you try to establish the best market between Pathmark, Stop & Shop, and ShopRite. I think Shoprite has the edge in low prices, but the A&Ps - an affiliate brand to Pathmark - that I've been in - most notably this Fort Lee NJ location and the Closter NJ spot, have a more pleasing layout and many more gourmet selections. This location and I think most A&Ps also have beer and hard liquor in store, though many of the bigger Shoprites also have "spirits" in an adjacent, separately registered store by the entrance.

I stop at this A&P frequently because it's hot off the George Washington Bridge. As we escape Fun City unharmed for yet another day, and enter New Jersey and we can hop back on Route 4 and be home without a tour through our own town center that has gone crosswalk crazy. They have excellent fresh seafood and meat departments, along with a wide variety in deli. Also, they have a substantial prepared food operation - plenty of hot and cold food choices and a self serve buffet selection.

At weekday lunch times, the students from the adjacent Fort Lee High descend upon the place, mostly for the sandwiches and coffee, and hang out throughout the parking lot, sometimes roaming right out in front of your car like it's a wildlife safari.

It's also not the place to stop for a quick lottery play if you are pressing the deadline cutoff for a drawing. You might miss it while a fellow patron tries to get a rain check or resolve some check out discrepancy. But that's usually the case when lottery business is not the lifeblood for a store like this the way it is for much smaller retailers. This location's lotto terminal/customer service desk is at the far end of the registers. It must have been replaced by the location of the mini coffee bar set up for the java heads - they even try to squeeze a comfy chair in that spot with a few tables so the sippers can pretend their in a real Starbucks and loiter to their hearts' content.

On many occasions, I've found the seafood person helpful and knowledgeable, the deli staff swift and courteous and that may be due to what seems to be an overall higher average age of the staff. Not many severely young folks "whatever-ing" in key positions. That is a fading reality these days.

I'd recommend this location to friends.

Well, this place i would say is ok, its not the best place to do your grocery shopping and I would never put it above shoprite. Its good and clean and has most of what you'll need for groceries but the prices are definately higher than pathmark and shoprite and the worst thing about them are the lines. They're very low staffed at night and sometimes only have one aisle open at certain times.
