Stop by the Merion Inn and enjoy a classic cocktail and listen to live music in our beautiful turn-of-the-century bar -- the oldest in Cape May! The dining room at the Merion Inn serves "Tradional American Cuisine" featuring the freshest regional seafood specialties and a wonderful assorment of sizzling steaks.
In the summer of 1885, Patrick Collins opened on Decatur Street "...a fine marine boarding villa, convenient to the Iron Door and the big hotels, and a first class establishment." By 1900, Collins Cafe was advertising its fine old whiskies, fresh seafoods, Milwaukee beers and "neatly appointed rooms for ladies." Andrew Zillinger, chief steward of the Merion Cricket Club on Philadelphia's Main Line, purchased the inn in 1906 and changed its name to The Merion. Several members of the club provided financial backing for the purchase to assure themselves a quiet oasis in Cape May with the same high standards they had come to expect. Rooms on the second floor were converted to private dining rooms and an outdoor beer garden was added (with a separate entrance for ladies). Throughout the 20th century, The Merion Inn has retained the charm and the graciousness of the Victorian era. The Merion Inn's traditional regional seafood specialties, sizzling steaks and classic cocktails have kept generations of Cape May locals and visitors returning again and again.

You can always count on the Merion Inn to be great quality. The prices are high, but definitely worth it. If you go, try the beef carpaccio appetizer - it's one of my favorites! Just perfect.

We went to the Merion Inn over the Christmas holidays. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for the holidays. We were seated at an intimate, candle lite table on the porch. The Inn has an extensive Martini Bar, and the drinks were excellent. My boyfriend ordered the Maryland Crab Cakes and I ordered the Chicken Franchese. Both meals were excellent. We had an incredible time at this restaurant and will absolutely go back again!!

A quiet and peaceful restaurant. Piano player, dark woods, old time elegance. Great early bird and late night three cousre dinners. Busy during peak hours, make a reservation.

Nice and quaint restaurant. Relaxing music from the piano bar. Lots of locals go here. I had the crab and it was really good. The menu was done by a local artist.

I've been to Watson's Merion Inn various times of the year for the past six years and the menu and quality of the food have never disappointed or bored me. They open at 5:00 pm and the early dinner specials are excellent. Reservations are a must. Be prepared to wait 10 or 20 minutes when you're dining after 6:00 pm.
Pros: valet parking , moderate to expensive
