On Feb 28th of this year we purchased a love seat from IKEA and had it delivered to our home. We asked the guy, who checked us out & set up the delivery, twice about them putting the couch together. He assured us it would be taken care of. The couch is delivered and they ask me to sign papers. I then asked them about assembling this and was told I didn't pay for that. I wasn't told there was any other charges on top of what I already paid for that. We assumed the delivery charge included assembly as the guy at IKEA told us, TWICE!!! The delivery men then took out the sales sheet I originally signed and it says there, in small print of course, that furniture would not be assembled upon delivery. I was furious. Immediately called IKEA & spoke to a very nice guy who said he could not do anything but he'd have someone else call me. A few days later a woman called. She was hostile from the moment I answered the phone. I explained the situation. She said there was nothing she could do since I didn't pay for this service. I told her we were told it was included in what we paid for. Never would I have had this delivered if we thought assembly wasn't included in the delivery charge. This woman got nastier & nastier to me. When I asked for her name she didn't want to give it to me but finally did: Adriana from 'after sales'. IKEA, this is one poor representation of your store. When I asked her for her name she first refused to give it to me. I then said I would pursue this further and she then said in her very sarcastic tone ' I didn't say I wouldn't help you. You were rambling and I wasn't going to interrupt you.' She was the rudest customer service person I have ever dealt with. At the end of this extremely upsetting conversation she told me she'd look into giving me a credit and she'd get back to me. This was March 3rd, 2013. This is July 24th, 2103!! Still waiting to hear back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now the worst part of this, ever since this love seat was delivered, our cat has slowly been getting sicker. She has completely stopped playing and has rapid breathing at times. Vets can find nothing wrong. She loves to go under this couch. I'm reading that IKEA had flame retardants in their furniture that makes people and animals sick! I can't seen to find out if they are still using anything like this. For now, this love seat is enclosed in plastic to keep kitty from going under or on it-also prevents us from using it. What a waste of lots of money. We have purchased most of our furniture from IKEA-we will never purchase one more item from them. We will never walk into any of their stores again. Stay away from IKEA if you expect good customer service.

Worst experience at IKEA ever. This location is terrible. No one there to help you, very confusing on where to go and where to check out and the customer service is TERRRRRRIBLE. I went to purchase the Numerar butcher block countertops for our kitchen, in beech, and we spent close to $800 and they prepared our "package" for pick up and kept bumping into it with other packages for pick up. I decided to check the wood before we left, and sure enough EVERY SINGLE ONE WAS CHIPPED AND DAMAGED from the lack of caution when moving other items around it, or in their case directly into it. I ended up sending back 8 packages of wood and requesting new ones, at that point the "manager" came out and said this was the last of the wood he had available and if we didnt like it we could take it and return it, but that was clearly a lie cause I could see online their inventory!!! and the had plenty of it. He just got tired of pulling out new boxes, which is ridiculous when every box they tried to give me was damaged and the wood on the sides was chipped and dented in. This wood is delicate so unless they are very careful with it, they will ruin it.

I was beyond disappointed. I am 6 months pregnant and to have to go through that aggrevation was just insane. The manager did a horrible job and they did not treat my order with care.....even though we spent close to a $1000 just in wood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to check my packages tomorrow now that I am home and you can bet that if any of it is chipped or dented, then it is going right back to the store to be returned.

These butcher blocks are packaged so poorly that they only put padding on the width sections and none on the length sections. So any type of dent you see on the long sides of the boxes means the wood is dented!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BEWARE BEWARE as this is a pain in the neck to deal with before you even get the wood home and start staining and sanding and conditioning and sealing and then finally installing. All I want is for them to be in perfect shape before I go through all that hassle and at this point I am almost positive some of the wood I brought home is going to be damaged and need to be returned. :(((((((

There is no customer service at Ikea in Paramus. They have a phone number, but there it ends. With regard to the kitchen stuff, customer service is a fee based product: you have to hire an assembler... you can put the stuff together yourself, but if there is anything wrong with the order, you are screwed... the delays can be weeks and weeks requiring many many calls before anything is done... there seems to be no promise that anything will every be done. Be very very careful before you accept delivery and sign off. Be prepared to stop the credit card payment. Don't wait too long.

Horrible customer service at the Paramus store. I needed help finding some DIY furniture. The stockman gave me the wrong color on 2 items. I drove 100 miles to return one item, (I kept the other because it was so heavy) and waited 48 minutes while NOT ONE customer was served.
David, the Customer Service Manager, and his assistant both refused to exchange my single item, telling me that I had to wait, even though I was next in line. No one was trained in customer satisfaction. They spent far more time telling me why I could not be served than it took to do the simple return. Absolutely incompetent, poorly trained, amateurs.

the worst!!!!!!!
nice store to go buy a few little items and leave.
we needed to furnish a house i went bought a bunk bed with mattresses a crib and a king bed. a million black and blue spots later from carrying most of this stuff myself out of the shelves to the delivery area, all seemed fine, until delivery date when we left extra early too our weekend place because the stuff was supposed to come betw. 7-11am long story short calling and waiting all day we got the crib and bunk bed frame at 11 at night and had a cranky 10 month old baby and a tired 6 years old back in the car to drive to the city because we had no mattresses to sleep on. now another million phone calls later it is already mid week and we don't even know if they will; deliver the stuff the next weekend. no chance to talk to a supervisor. no one helping. and all that after i had most of these items already in my hands including the twin mattresses and crib mattress. but they lost it all in the home delivery section and don't feel like making the effort to pull it again!!!!!! the worst experience. never again. 1800- mattress next time.

My parents get their furniture here. Nice couches, love seats, and foo tongs, eventhough somewhat hard. I got lost in the ballsssss (playarea) as a kid and that memory is still haunting me 21 years later.

Ikea is known for it's great dirt cheap items. Well, it may be dirt cheap, but the quality of their items is pretty bad. Meanwhile, I do recommend this store of Ikea to people who need those kind of things TEMPORARY only, just because most of their things will either break, not work and "get killed" in less then 5-6 months of home use. They also have GREAT deals for students that dont have a lot of money to spend. So overall, good items for the price, but beware - their quality is not good at all. This store got a lot of selection which is very good. 3/5

I remember when my family and I would go on "roadtrips" to Jersey from Manhattan and I would always be excited about going to this Ikea. They have a great place for children to play if their parents don't want to bore them with all the furniture shopping. The food court is also great - and of course, the merchandise and the prices are awesome - like every Ikea. The service is great too.

They have a great place for children to play if their parents don't want to bore them with all the furniture shopping. The food court is also great - and of course, the merchandise and the prices are awesome - like every Ikea. The service is great too.

I knew about Ikea in college and knew they were durable and cost effective furniture but after a visit to this super store - I was blown away. Not only could you spend a huge chunk of your day here but, they have great stuff. For those that are not able to visualize - they actually set up areas showcasing how you can have your room and everything within the display is something that you can find in Ikea. I love the setup (those who are NY'ers know what I mean) that shows how even a tiny matchbox is deemed worthy to have Ikea in it. Anyone can become an interior designer overnight including showing how your office can be done as well. This is a must visit especially since they have a cafe and everything - you can not go wrong here.

PROS: Everything in the catalog becomes something you want

Not only is this store on Route 4 easy to get to (a bus leaves right from port authority), but the furniture design is great, suited for those tight living spaces most of us have, and they deliver for pretty low fees. The furniture is pretty inexpensive, just watch out for the REALLY chep stuff because the quality is not as good as some of the pricier items.
