I've been coming here since a kid. My family has always gotten donuts, danish, and especially birthday cakes. Nothing has ever gone to waste, not even a crumb. Everything is fresh, if you see something that isn't there or on the menu, simply ask for it and they will make it happen. After the flood, things are right back to normal and the specialty cakes are to die for, especially the decorations.

STAY AWAY IF YOU VALUE YOUR HEALTH !!

We have been shopping at the Viking Bakery in Denville, NJ for close to 15 years. We purchase most of our baked goods for all of the holidays, birthdays, special occasions, routine events, etc.. Additionally, for many of those years we purchased large quantities of cupcakes to send in to school for our kid's birthday parties . The quality of their baked goods has always just "so-so" and has really declined over the years, the prices are always much higher than average, and the service is absolutely Terrible! As the quality of the food and service goes down, the prices seem to go through the roof!. The ONLY reason we have continued to frequent this establishment is simply due to convenience... (they are located close to our home and there really aren't many bakeries left in our area -- and we like to support local businesses as much as we can -- Though we should have gone to Costco or any of the local Supermarkets -- ESPECIALLY THIS PAST WEEK!).

My wife drove over last Wednesday to purchase several pies and other pastries for a Thanksgiving Day (November 2011) Party. Imagine our surprise when one of the guests took the pies out of the refrigerator in order to prepare the desert portion of the day only to discover that one of the items had a rather large amount of mold growing all over the top of it.. (I'm not sure of the exact name of it, but it was a strawberry topped custard/cream pie).

Everyone was very disgusted nauseated and not a single person would dare touch any of the other items that were placed out for desert, and most of the items were not even from Viking ! Our family was mortified and extremely embarrassed when we tried to explain that it was only ONE DAY OLD & supposedly "Fresh", had been refrigerated the entire time, and was purchased at a bakery and not from a "thrift shop" and was not a "clearance item" of any sort!. (The "thrift shop" and "clearance item" comments were overheard as most of the guests, nauseated and upset at that point, began to immediately pack up and leave halfway through the day).

During the entire incident, I tried to make the best of the situation, but truthfully -- not a single person trusted the integrity or safety of ANY of the remaining food! (and with good reason -- I'll be posting photos in a little while).

On the day following Thanksgiving, I phoned Viking Bakery and had an absolutely horrible experience with the woman I spoke with. After asking for her name, instead of answering my question, she immediately and rudely placed me on hold for an extended period of time and then, after picking up, she told me that she had "spoken with the owners", and that they stated that it was impossible for such a thing to occur, blah, blah, blah..... Great way to handle a problem with a loyal customer! (FORMERLY Loyal, that is...). Poor Quality Customer Service starts with the "owners" and management and ends with the employees that interact with the customer. At the rate that they are going, between the incredibly poor quality service and awful attitude toward their customers, combined with moldy, rotten food products, I have absolutely no doubt that they will be out of business sooner than later!

In addition to everyone that was there and saw the vile & nauseatingly putrid "Viking Pie", I made sure to send and post photos of it all over the web in the hope that all current and any potential customers of this establishment will think twice before spending their hard earned money on products which may harmful to their health and well being.

It's definitely time that the Denville Department of Health gets put on alert ! --- They really need to go and inspect the Viking Bakery premises, especially the places that are not routinely seen by the public, to determine why such products are being sold to the public !. They should also find out exactly where they obtain their ingredients and ensure that the employees are trained in the proper handling of food items!

If you have experienced similar problems, please make sure to contact the Denville Twp. Department at 973-625-8300. Hopefully, they can ensure the safety of Viking Bakery's customers. (After OUR recent experience, combined with their reaction,---> Imagine what you might get sold if you have a specific food allergy and request information on the ingredients of an item being sold at the Viking Bakery in Denville, NJ!!??!!)

First of all the people that come into this bakery are nasty there not nice and dont give any the people who work there a break. The people that come in are nasty right off the bat. Second, the people that work there dont make the prices or the rules about the putting down a deposit etc so dont yell, scream, or give them a hard time about it when they dont make the rules yell at the owners not them. The bakery is really good has been and will always be good. And by the way with the person who said the owners a couple years back were good is totally wrong because the owners a couple years back stole money from the bakery and went on vacations and treated his employes very poorly. That means the owner was a crook so dont say the owner couple years back was good because that is totally wrong. He also had no idea how to bake and was disgusting himself. The bakers/owners are very good and this bakery is better then it has ever been!

I bought a cake yesterday walnut maple. This cake is not a common cake at hand. It is one of my favorites! The icing was good but the cake was stale. I was very disapointed .The cake was very expensive also $19 for a stale cake. This is not the first time I bought somthing here that was stale. They have a good deal on donuts for the office 18 for $11 which is a good deal. There apple stre are very good also .This use to be a very good bakery years ago but the customer service, high prices for stale items is a shame. Owners you need to focus and to teach your people to be more customer friendly. Some of them don't ever know how to smile....

6/17/10 What poor, poor customer service this bakery has. Today I purchased the 18 donuts and told the woman not to put all 18 in one box due to the frosting coming off. She wouldn't listen to me and guess what, all the frosting stuck together and no one wants to eat them. When I called back to complain they would not take my call and kept putting me on hold. They then took the phone off the hook never dealing with the situation. What lack of intelligence that they do not realize how they damage their company's reputation. I strongly suggest that you find another bakery, perhaps the one on rt 46 in parsippany. This used to be such a great bakery when the owners a few years ago took over, but now its under new management and service is POOR! When I get there in person to discuss this issue they will wish they had taken my call as I will make sure I wait until there are plenty of customers in the store. I think that woman should be fired and be in the unemployment line.

My family loves this bakery. The cake is a hit at every party I throw for my kids. The butter cream icing gets raves from adult guests every time! I hope for leftovers. Also, my Italian husband loves the canolis, and the kids and I love the cookies.

This bakery is a local favorite, they have such a variety of items, you never know what you are going to find. The turnovers and cakes are particularly delicious and everything is large and filling. The breads are almost as good as homemade and most of the food is baked fresh daily. The leftovers are not wasted but are donated to local organizations.

I just bought a most delicious Apple Crumb. I had bought one at another bakery and was disappointed. While visiting family in Denville I remembered the Viking from when I was young. I was told there are new owners, not sure, but the cake was very moist and not overly sweet with plenty of apples. Not disappointed here in the quality.

Picked up a coffee ring today. Dry and overbaked for $6.95
Usually go to Stango's in Boonton where for $4.50 the coffee rings are always fresh. Will not make the same mistake again

This bakery has a long history in Denville. My family has been going here for years. Their food is always fresh and they sell Swedish specialties like limpa bread which is hard to find. Their cakes are very good as well as their cookies. They also sell bagels which is not common for a bakery.

I hate to pay top dollar and then get disappointed. That happens here. It's hit or miss. They have wonderful stuff along side of really bad. When I buy fresh bakery goods, I don't expect day old stuff that is halfway stale. That

I always have a Brown Derby cake for \r
my birthday, and this year I had one from the Viking Bakery--big mistake! Too much chocolate cake, cake stale, little fruit (and the peaches were canned) and, quite expensive. What a disappointment
