When we ordered our food to be picked up , the food was still hot when we got it home.Very good food, next time I will eat it there. They did a good job of redecorating. I would eat there often
4stars.

I'd bet if you surveyed 100 people: Where's the best Portuguese Food in NJ? South Plainfiled isn't the first answer that comes to mind.

But I would seriously urge anyone reading this to change their thinking.

Recently rennovated, Paulo's features a warm mediterranean ambience. A dining area that can accomodate a romantic dinner for two as easily as a party of 20 or more without a hitch. A beautiful stone patio for dining Al-Fresco in the warmer months, and a nice bar area for a pre-dinner cocktail, and a must stop spot for an after dinner drink.

The menu at Paulo's has all the best Portugouse fair. From wood fired Churasquieria style Chicken, Ribs and Steaks to Urban fav's like Paella, Garlic Shrimp and Tasty Chorizo. Whatever your choice, the Overly-Generous portions will satisfy even the heartiest eaters.

Family run, the Owner Paulo greets you with a charming smile. He is a good hearted soul, who always makes you feel like part of his family. Beware gents, on nights with live music he may get your lovely bride up to dance.

Personal Fav's are the Pork and Clams Alentejana, Beef Ribs, Shrimp and Chorizo in Garlic Sauce. And their Rice... well, my wife has made me drive in many a snowstorm to get take out from Paulo's just because she had a craving for their rice.

As someone who knows their way around the backstreets of the Iornbound (not just Ferry Street) I can honestly say that Paulo's is a foodie's paradise.

Get Here, Get Fed, and Be Happy.

I drove over to the newly renovated Paulo's just on a whim to pick up dinner for my Father's brithday celebration. When you walk in the door the smells of the food are breath taking. I was able to get so much of a variety great food, and the cost was way less than I expected. My Father loves the food so much we are planning to have our upcoming banquet at this location. If you are looking for some good take-out or want to dine somewhere I would sugguest Paulo's.

If I could give this place a negative star rating, I would. Paulo's had advertised a $9 Rodizio weekday lunch special, I even called to confirm the price, date and time before coming. My friends and I LOVE rodizio, we normally go to Iberia's in Newark (Highly Recommended), but decided to try Paulo's due to this advertised special. My friends and I are in graduate school and normally do not go out to eat that often for no occasion, but made this an exception.

Let me first say that the food here could not hold a candle to Iberias. The stale garlic bread, taken out of a black garbage bag, seemed to be what was left over from prior customers. The meat either tasted bland or overly salted and was often times dangerously undercooked. The chocolate cake for dessert was advertised to be homemade, but tasted very much as if it were store bought. You could imagine my shock and embarrassment when we got the check and the $9 lunch special had some how turned itself into $87 (for 3 people) affair. When we asked about the bill the waiter told me we had eaten the regular price rodizio, not the lunch special portion. Not anywhere or at anytime was it said or written that portions were different for lunch and dinner pricing. When we then asked to speak to the owner (Paulo himself) he quickly escalated the confusion into a screaming match. A fellow business owner myself (my family owns a local business) I understand that he wants to make money, and told him such, but services can and should not be misrepresented. After a 10 minute argument, the owner finally agreed to knock off one of our $23 rodizios. That extra $20 that Paulo scammed out of me and my friends has just caused me to want to tell the world how terrible this place really is. Even if our bill was priced as advertised I still would not want to go back due to the poor food quality. The scam that Paulo's played on my friends and me, however, has caused me to write my first ever, positive or negative, restaurant review. Please, for your stomach and wallet's sake, do not go here.

As soon as you are driving by Paulos', which is located on Plainfield Ave in South Plainfield you can smell the barbeque aroma a mile away. The food here is soo yummy! I highly recommend the barbeque shortribs, the garlic shrimp, the barbeque chicken, etc. Just about everything on the menu is soo good. We usually pick up but you can also sit down and eat too!

PROS: Prices, Taste
CONS: No Delivery
