As long as you go in realizing that you are getting "American-ized" food it is good, but I would not call it authentic by any means. Think of a fancy Taco Bell. If you like to make a run for the border, go here and you will love it! (I love it every now and then.)

If you want REAL mexican food...forget the rest as there is only one!

Cinco de Mayo's in hillsdale. Walk in and you will feel like you are in Mexico. Look at the menu and realize that you in fact ARE in Mexico!

It is obvious that those who love this place have never had real Mexican food. Since when is Mexican food bland, isn't cumin (or any other spice) a key in Mexican cuisine? Since when is "authentic" Mexican cooking made in a MICROWAVE? They don't cook anything...only assemble! The "sauce" on the enchilada was a joke, marinara sauce? Wouldn't send my worst enemy here!

This is one of the best and most authentic Mexican Restaurants I have ever eaten at. Being in the Military I have traveled all over the world and tested local interpretations of Mexican food in various locations. This is by far my favorite. It was so good, in fact, that when I came home from Iraq I insisted this be the first restaurant I ate at because I had become such a fan before I left. The food is not greasy or drowned in spices or cheese (classic pitfalls of low quality Mexican food) but is well balanced, light and still manages to be delicious without being overpowering. The business is family owned and operated which helps create a friendly and welcoming environment and the service is always great.

The enchilada sauce it was some sort of marinara sauce....Big no no in Mexican Food!! it is not suppose to be bright red and sweet, considering that you don't use tomatoes in it!!!! It is soo over prized specially their guacamole which it wasn't anything special. Their green sauce was extremely hot, but ok in flavor. Their Tacos were just plain and full of lettuce. Their tamales, not fluffy at all just very hard the meat had no seasoning and with no taste, aside from floating in green salsa. For the prices, you are better off going to 3 Chicas in Wyckoff, pretty close to mexican food, or Badland Tacos (their chicken tacos are not bad but their salsas are very mild, and plain with no seasoning ), Blue Moon has great beans, and awesome chips and salsa!!!! Is not authentic but at least is good. But if you really want authentic food around here and a good dinning experience, go to Mama Mexico their guacamole is awesome!!! Made right in front of you!!! My food really tasted Mexican. It is pricey but worth it!!!Mamacita's I am sorry to said but Mexican food is not cooked with olive oil!!! That's Spanish food!!!! And your enchilada sauce it shouldn't taste like Ragu or Prego!!!!

Are we all talking about the same place here? The food was GROSS. When I ordered the avocado "tacos" I thought it would have been filled with "fresh" avocados, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, perhaps some salsa. It was guacamole with lettuce wrapped in a tortilla! I got a side of sour cream and it was $1.75. Is there a shortage of sour cream that I am unaware of that it costs almost two dollars for a dollop? The "beef" in the burritos looked like dog food. The salsa was gross too, it tasted like ketchup and pasta sauce. The service was horrible. Save your money and go to Taco Bell!

Mamacita's is by far the best mexican restaurant I have ever been too. The food tastes incredibly fresh, and you can even see them preparing it for you. You are welcomed by a friendly staff and a never ending bowl of chips and salsa that are to die for. Order the guacamole, and you will understand! Everything is made fresh, so once in a blue moon if the avacados aren't ripe you might be out of luck on the guac, but trust me it's worth either waiting for or coming back for!! My favorite appetizer is the nachos and crisps, as well as the chile con queso, i drizzle that over everything! My wife loves the mamacitas salads, which are healthy and fulfilling, while I usually get a combination of a burrito, tostada, and crispy taco. The rice and beans are never ending as well, just ask your server. The staff is extremely friendly and warm, they are usually young ladies who just want to appease the customers. The owner/cook is a warm woman who is always chatting with the regulars and even if she doesn't remember your name, she will remember your meal!! One time I had to leave on a long business trip and when I came back, she knowingly asked if I wanted my "usual," which I was surprised that she remembered! I could go on and on about this place, just try it for yourself! You won't be let down, I'm sure you will become a regular too! If you can appreciate good, homemade, real mexican food, this is the place to go!!

I had just about given up on trying to eat mexican food, for every place in our area seems to be a chain restuarant, or just a fast food place. When passing one day we decided to stop in and try it, and I am so happy we did!!! We dine there every two weeks, sometimes once a week depending on my wife's cravings! The food is made fresh to order, and tastes incredible. You truly get a homemade feeling, for the staff is so friendly and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. We have tried every single item on the menu, and I still can't decide what my favorite is. It's gotten to the point where I just tell Alex, the owner and cook, to surprise us with our entrees because we can never decide!! This restaurant truly knows how to make REAL Mexican food, and has reasonable prices. I cannot stress enough how good this place is, try it out for yourself!!

The food was average, but the worst part of the evening was a toss up of experiencing a waitress who racially profiled an Indian family and refused to serve them or playing musical chairs. First the family was seated at a comfortable table and when a larger party arrived, were asked to move to a smaller table. Secondly, it was the manager or the owner's wife served them, and was gracious. The young brunette waitress was extremely courteous to the rest of the patrons but outwardly curt with the Indian family. The ignorance made the already average food taste even more foul.

My family and I just moved into the area and decided to try Mamacitas. We were not expecting much as none of the mexican restaurants live up to our favorites from back home. We were so pleasantly surprised to be welcomed so warmly by both the staff and the owner Alex.

And the food was outstanding! Everything was incredibly fresh and unbelivably delicious.

This is a restaurant we can definitely enjoy over and over again with excitement and comfort!

I'm a little perplexed by the positive reviews. Maybe the people in Northern NJ don't have access to good Mexican food so anything is better than nothing. Personally, I went there with a friend and neither of us found the food very good. The chips were plain and the salsa uninspiring (tasted like it was out of a can). The meals were bland and for what you got, over priced. Add that to the 1950's Diner environment, and you have a place that I will not go back to.

We have been going to Mamacitas since it opened, and the Fiesta Hut before that (since high school). The food is always fresh, the nachos are to die for and some times we go just to get the green sauce to take home. I don't know about the "cheez wiz" mentioned in another review, but I have been trying to find the cheese they use for years. My mouth is watering just thinking about the enchiladas and the salsa and the rice and beans and the tostadas and the guacamole and the chile rellenos and... I think I'll have to go there for lunch. Thanks for being around for so long Alex. Some people just have to eat in chain restaurants.

I don't know what you all are raving about!!!! I'm all for great, authentic food being a cook myself but really, On the Border is even better than this place!! I'd rather go to Taco Bell!!! The only decent thing was what they claimed was a burrito, a small soft taco with filling and "mole" sauce on top. The "tamale" was not even edible.I don't know what they used to make it, but it sure wasn't cornmeal!!! They brought over a dessert size plate of rice and beans and when we told then we wanted 2 orders they said that is 2 servings! They had 2 14 yr old girls as waitresses that were too busy talking and doing nothing behind the counter to take our order. My friend had always talked about it and saw all the positive reviews here but I guess I should have taken the advice of the only bad one.

My husband and I have been having Alex's Mexican food since the old Fiesta Hut days on route 4 in Paramus! We were so happy to find Alex again in Ramsey. It is a great place to bring the kids and a truly great fresh meal. Her chicken is fantastic - try the chicken taco and the burritos with the green sauce. Even my 6yr old loves the place!

I have been going to Mamacitas since they opened. Because of their family style ambiance and fresh foods I wouldn't think of going anywhere else for Mexican food. I suggest this place to all my friends and family. If you want a comfortable environment and great food go to Mamas! I suggest their California soft tacos and shrimp dish.

We stumbled on this place, quite by accident, and it is now a regular once or twice a week place where we eat. Alex and all of the staff are always cheerful and friendly!
The Soups are made with homemade stock and the vegetables are fresh. Everything is made fresh!
Fresh food is important for us, as we can not absorb all the chemicals in most food that is served in restaurants today.
Thanks to Alex, she provides healthy meals for us, along with wonderful service.
Try Mamacita's, you won't be disappointed! by Joyce and George

I have been going to Mamacitas with all of my friends and family for many many years way before when it was Fiesta Hut on Rt.4 and still keep going even it is a little out of my way because it is the best Mexican food all around.
Everything is fresh, delicious and plentiful with great, friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere.
I've always left very satisfied and always looking forward to go back again.

We love Alex's handed-down family recipes: the homemade salsa, the homemade tortilla chips, the nachos, the gazpacho, the CCQ. We still order the same combination from our Fiesta Hut days. There's been a lot of talk about this other place and that being the best Mexican food in New Jersey. It's all nonsense. Mamacita's is the place to go if you truly value great Mexican food. I've traveled all over California extensively, I've lived in New Mexico, and I'm in Mexico several times a year. I am telling you, believe me, it doesn't get any better than this.

Bring your own Cerveza or Wine. You'll have an Inexpensive meal in a fun, casual, slightly quirky atmosphere. It is a former ice cream parlor. But the family photos and serape on the blue convertible embedded in the walll have taken the place in a new direction. It's all part of the charm, but the best part, of course, is the GENUINE homecooked Mexican food.

Pros: Genuine Mexican Food, cooked by Alex with her family recipes

Cons: You probably won't have a doggy bag, you'd rather stuff yourself silly than leave anything on the plate

This place is great!! I was a big Fiesta Hut (remember the trailer on Rt 4 in Paramus) and was crushed when they were forced to close to put up yet another McDonalds. I found this place by chance and was delighted to find Alex behind the counter!
The food is great-try the jalapeno appetizer-and you can BYOB. The staff is friendly and the place is an old ice cream parlor updated tastefully. Get there early on a Friday night and prepare to be wowed!!

I've been eating at Mamacita's for over 20 years(it was aka "fiesta hut" before they were in Ramsey). I think the fact that I'd go back year in and year out says plenty. If you like Mexican (real mexican, if you know what that is) don't miss the opportunity to feast at Mamacita's.

Tasty, satisfying, good homemade mexican food is what you will find at Mamacita's in Ramsey. Alex, the mexican owner, uses only the freshest ingredients to create the most delicious Mexican food I have ever tasted. The food is as authentic as it gets, created from family recipes passed down from her own mom and dad. The restaurant is clean and comfortable with a down home family feel. Children are welcome , and my own love the food as much as I do. Every dish is made to order, just the way you like it, mild or spicy, beef, pork, chicken or cheese. Frosty mugs are served for your BYO. Go early on weekends because loyal costumers keep the place hopping but its worth the wait.

PROS: fresh quality ingredients, food made to order, family friendly
CONS: limited number of tables

Aside from being the best Mexican food I have ever had ( and I just returned from Mexico!) I was amazed by the friendly, welcoming atmosphere of this place. While enjoying an amazing bowl of Azteca soup and bottomless bowls of chips and salsa, I watched as Alex, the owner and chef, was greeting everone from her open kitchen and the only way I could tell regular customers from friends was when she popped out to give someone a kiss. My advice is go early and often, because her loyal regulars will galdly wait for a table on saturday night and now I know why!

Mamacitas is by far, the best Mexican restaurant we have ever been too. The atmosphere is very cozy, the service is very friendly, and the food is amaaazing!!!! You can even see the owner making the food and taste the freshness of it. The dishes are all authentic, very different from all the other tex-mex places. There is a wide variety of dishes to choose from, my favorite being a combination of a California Taco, a Chile Relleno, and an avacado burrito. It comes with just enough rice and beans on the side to top it off. Then for dessert a mango sorbet or the homemade flan. Whatever you choose, you will be completely satisfied and will return for more!

The soups are excellent and the buritto's are my personal favorite. The owner is alway's there and is a warm and friendly lady. Mamacita's has the best mexican food around!

I have not been able to find any finer Real Mexican food in the east coast. Part of my heritage is from Mexico and when I discovered Mamacita's restraurant I was very pleasantly surprised. The dishes that are served at Mamacita's are fresh, authentic, exquisite and definetly not Tex Mex restaurant. The unique flavors that accompany each dish are unforgetable. Their sauces are a delight to the palate as well as their cactus salad, In fact I can not find something in their menu that I have not delighted in. I highly recomend Mamacita's for an authentic central Mexican food adventure.

Mamacita's Authentic Mexican Cuisine is the best Mexican food I personally have ever had. Mamacita's offers a great variety of delicious appetizers, soups, salads, and entrees. Each of this is fresh made and perfectly served. Their homemade salsa is to die for, the best I have ever had by far. The owner herself has been cooking her recipes since she was little, some of the recipes belonging to her mother. The atmosphere of the restaurant is welcoming and inviting. I have never tasted, nor do I think I ever will, finer authentic Mexican cuisine.

If you are looking for great Mexican food and great service, Mamacita's is the place to go.

From the minute you walk in to Mamacita's, you know you are in for a treat. The decor is simple and welcoming. The owner greets you from behind the cooking area or seats you herself. The menu is also very simple and easy to pick your choices among enchiladas, tamales, chile rellenos, ect... everything is made fresh and you can taste it in each bite. Having traveled throughout Mexico extensively on business, my husband said the owner must be from central Mexico, because of how the salsas were seasoned. When we asked her, she was very impressed by my husband's
culinary knowledge and said her family was from Mexico City.
The dinner was finished off with the homemade flan which was just perfect.
