On the night of 9-6-2010, my husband, son and I stopped for dinner on the way home from NY. When we arrived the staff was standing around and made it seem as though it was a hassel to seat us. Once the waitress got there she was very nice and helpful to our busy baby boy. We left our cell on the table. When we called the next morning to see if someone turned it in the girl who answered the phone said no. After I checked with the cell carrier my cell is in NJ and I don't live there. I called back and asked to speak with the manager. The man who answered the phone was the manager. I asked if my cell was turned in and he promply said no. Didn't even to attempt to check their lost and found. I have no proof that the staff took it but there was only 7 customers there when we left. Also the atmosphere from the locals was terrible. There was a group of 4 young people sitting close by and all the 2 did was use the F word. I would NOT reccomend this place!

Bitter Sweet. COSTA has no manners & is unprofessional. He brings a bad name to the Clinton Station. He ruined my daughters surprise bridal shower. He even went as far as blaming her for answering the telephone.Unbelievable! He told her via telephone the date of the shower. He didn't even apologize. His comment was" oh well everyone knows they have a party." Had I had more time I would have cancelled the party & booked elsewhere. If that wasn't bad enough The restaurant was unprepared for our arrival of 12:15 to set up in the Train car. I had called earlier in the week to confirm the times w/ him. There were people eating in the train car which I had reserved for this affair 8 months prior when we arrived. It left me in an awkward position as he told me to set up while other patrons were still eating and did not leave until 12:40, rather than comping their meal, apologizing for any inconvenience & moving them to the main dining room.MY Guests were arriving @ 12:45 for a 1-5 shower. While the 2 servers & my bridal party & I were unnecessarily frantically rushing around because of his error in seating patrons in in our reserved room.We didn't get the room set up till after 1 pm. While he did give a free drink to some of the guests this could have been completely avoidable. He was rude, uncaring & inconsiderate.Never once apologizing. He was insulting to myself, my daughter & some of my guests. He nearly accosted us in the parking lot.It seems COSTA did not approve of the cash tip I left for the servers.( I did not approve of our treatment) By the way the servers were excellent, this is not a reflection on them, unfortunately they were penalized because of COSTA's lack of professionalism & people skills. Had COSTA accommodated us as HE agreed, they would have gotten a fantastic tip.For this I apologize. I did tip them in person & in cash.Costa you should eat the other $50.Shame on you!Tipping is always optional. The meals were not presented as described in the menu, the bathroom facility filthy, the salad bar was messy. ( I overheard other patrons in the rest room complaining about the food & Costa's behavior)We did not have enough servers for our 37 guests so tables weren't being cleared in a timely manner. Drinks, coffee & desserts weren't given to some of the guest. A lot to do for 2 waiters No matter how efficient they are.COSTA was not prepared for our scheduled In good conscience I could NEVER Refer the CLINTON STATION to anyone.Where as once I was a frequent patron I will never go back there again until either COSTA takes some etiquette classes, management & hospitality courses or better yet is replaced by someone who actually cares about the service industry & is a PROFESSIONAL. A reputable establishment would have adjusted my $400+ bill ( which I paid in cash)to remain in good standing.
Shame on you COSTA!

I regrettably chose this diner for dinner on April 16,2010.
To make a long story short, i was humiliated because my daughter began to cry, the manager Costas made it a point to create a huge scene. He referred to my children as animals (because my 2 yr old was crying) and told me i was ignorant for not dragging her out in the pouring rain to calm her down. This was the WORST place i have ever eaten, the food sucked and the veggie tasted like it was spoiled. My prime rib was mostly fat and un eatable. It was very over priced especially since i didnt even get to finish before i was humiliated by the staff. The server was very friendly but the management was completly rude and i will never eat here again!!! If you are looking for a good dining experience, please go somewhere else, especially if you have children dining with you.

Locals do NOT eat here. The food is mediocre at best the prices are not great but the largest reason never to visit this restaurant is the service. The service here routinely STINKS! The people who work here are inflexible and down right nasty. They will treat you as if they are doing YOU a favor by serving you. I had a coupon that the restaurant put out it said "5 off your TOTAL check of $30 or more". My bill was $30.43 they refused to honor their coupon because in the words of the worthless shrimp of a night manager "That doesn't include tax". Avoid this place at all costs. Go to the Spinning Wheel on route 22 or the Asbury Deli on Asbury Portal Rd. instead.

Pros: Open 24 hours a day

Cons: pretty much everything else

Well, I used to love the place. My husband and I used to go there every Friday on the way from Staten Island to the Poconos. We once asked to take the soup and dessert home on the 3PM to 6PM Special and the manager came over and said we were not allowed to do that on the special. We are Seniors and it is too much food so we enjoy taking some of it home to eat later in the day. He was rude and made us feel like we were begging for something for free. We like the salad bar and the service for the most part is good. Sometimes the food is not so good, is either overcooked or just no flavor. It depends on the server, most would rather talk to each other than to listen to your order. The Spanish-speaking waiter is really very nice and helpful, so are the busboys. They clean the tables very fast and are very nice.
Overall the restaurant is Ok, they just need to hire more friendly staff and change the manager or advise him not to be so rude.

Love being able to get anything on the menu at ant time of day!

Sometimes the service is slow, or just not around. That stinks, when you have three teenagers, they will eat you out of house & home.

Problem with gift card

We have no problem with the food at this restaurant. It??s the owner we are annoyed with. We received a $50 gift card from our niece for this restaurant. The restaurant also has a frequent diner card, which I had picked up on a previous visit. The next time I went to pay our bill for breakfast, I found two frequent diner cards in my wallet. I thought that I had lost the gift card. Then I got to thinking that the $50 might have been processed on a frequent diner card by mistake. Why would I have two frequent diner cards? The cards look similar. So the next time we went to the restaurant, I asked for the manager. The person we spoke to was apparently the owner. When I showed him the two cards and explained our suspicions, he wasn??t very nice. ??Those are frequent diner cards! We can??t do anything!??. He didn??t believe us. Finally he decided to swipe both cards at the cash register. We were correct. The $50 gift was processed on the frequent diner card by mistake. He then said to the manager "You did this!?. We were issued a new gift card. However, we were very annoyed at the attitude of the owner. All he had to do was swipe the card to see who was correct instead of acting like we were idiots. I rarely write reviews. But his attitude pissed me off! A good restaurant would have given us a token free coffee to apologize for our trouble.

Clinton Station Diner was recommended to my husband and I due to its "world class burgers"...yea right. The service was awful: The waitress was rude and ignored us the whole time. The food was awful: It was cold and bland and rubbery. Our overall experience was awful, and I wouldn't go back.

Clinton Station is the home of one of the biggest (and smallest) burgers in the world and I am happy to give this diner a good review. I love the staff and management, especially Nancy, who is always aiming to please. As for the slow service, I feel like it has improved since they first opened, however, it does depend on the server you get, as with any restaurant. As the only place open 24 hours, 365 days a year, Clinton Station was definitely a needed addition to Hunterdon County.

This is a great diner. The menu is very varied. The dessert selection, in the glass case, is the best I've ever seen in my whole life; the desserts taste very good too. The service was very caring. The all inclusive meal deals are affordable and the meals therein are huge.
I was able to order a plate of fresh steamed vegetables and this is not something easily found at diners. The atmosphere is clean and pleasant. There is a very long, beautiful fish aquarium along a row of table booths. There is a really cute train car with little tables there. Have fun.

One of my biggest problems with moving "out to the country", at least as far as NJ goes, was a lack of 24 eateries. That changed over a year ago when the Clinton Station Diner opened. The food is generally decent, occasionally good, rarely bad, and they have a liquor license. They tend to be a bit slow regardless of how many patrons there are, but since their first month, they have not been terribly slow. All in all, a decent diner, decent food and drink, EXCELLENT 24 hour service in Hunterdon.

PROS: Open 24 hours!
