Neil Young is a good guy. He's got alot of Good equipment that he has to watch over so hes very careful about who comes in playing his guitars. Its his livelihood. He will help you out anyway he can.
I go there for all my guitar needs. And prices are realitive to the size of the store you go to. I think he has very fair prices....

Music Museum in Pitman is a gret shop, that has been in business almost 40 years. You don't stay in business that long, especially in todays economy without doing things right. But you also don't stay in business that long without a 'bad egg' out there somewhere trying to tear you down with a bunch of nonsense and the power of the Internet in their scrambled eggs.

This place WILL rip you off if you let them. I will never shop here again. I would recommend taking your buisness somewhere else. The prices are too high and the staff is rude.

Very good store and great service. I'm a regular down there - I buy most of my string cables, and various odds and ends at Music Museum. I've also purchased a guitar and fairly pricey equipment (pedals, speakers) and always been satisfied.
My only caution for the store, is that I'm not 100% sure I would recommend it for someone who doesn't know gear very well. He won't rip you off, but I'm not particularly impressed with some of the lower end gear in the shop. I think you can get better guitars (particularly acoustic) for the money elsewhere.
I will admit that I've been surprised with the quality of some of the cheaper pedals he sells - he probably saved me a couple hundred dollars in that way.
Either way, for someone who knows what they're talking about, and knows what they need, I would 100% recommend Music Museum. Great service and a great selection of gear.

I have to agree that the Music Museum prices are no the lowest, but Jim is a good guy that will work with you. I was looking for a Ovation Celebrity Acoustic-Electric Guitar and they had one. It was used, but it perfect conditon. The price was about $150 less than a new one, but Jim allowed me to buy it on lay-away. A system almost no other music store will allow. It was a gift for someone on Christmas and he gave me ample time to pay the cost and pick it up just before Christmas. Could I have gotten it cheaper somewhere? Probably. But I appreciated his customer service. I'll go back for that because sometimes it worth more than a few less dollars.

I snapped the headstock off of my beautiful Quilted Swamp Ash acoustic guitar. Broke-off, very jagged and splintered. The guitar meant alot to me and there was only one place to go. Music Museum. I had seen neck repairs Jim had done before but this one was an ugly break to say the least. I was not optimistic. Jim acknowledged that it was a bad break, but nothing that he couldn't handle. He was right!! My guitar is fixed structurally and cosmetically. It looks and sounds great. The cost of the repair was completely fair, I could have paid twice what I was charged if I went somewhere else if they could even do it.

I came to this page because I heard that someone had a problem. The Internet empowers those who hide in anonymity. I read below that he's afraid of reprisals.Anon you are a moron and a coward on top of that. Your real fear is that people will find out you're an idiot. I wonder what you wrote about the guy who sold you your car? Or house?: If you don't like the price of something there's no reason to get upset. Buy it somewhere else and see how alone you are when you have a problem. Jim takes care of his problems on the spot. If something costs a few bucks more at Music Museum the comfort of knowing that there is a man standing behind his products is worth 10 times that!

I have been dealing with Jim since I received my first (unplayable) guitar as a gift many years ago. I brought it to Jim and he took the time to fully explain what the guitar needed and did a great job turning it into a remarkably sweet playing guitar. He earned my business and my trust the very first time I dealt with him. Anyway over the years I have bought, bartered, and traded guitars amps mics and always got what I expected. No surprises. Always fair. What you get at the Music Museum is quality gear and personal service. Pull any guitar off the wall and play it. Then go to one of the big stores and grab the same model the difference will be obvious.

I have been dealing with Jim at Music Museum since 1989. Jim probably forgot more about his craft than most in 2 lifetimes. I have purchased a complete EV P.A. system, countless amps & accessories and a number of guitars. I stop by for a visit often enough in my travels just to say "Hi" and in every visit I have never seen a more customer oriented guy than Jim. For example I was looking for a 12 string acoustic in 2005 and Jim had a Dean 12 string that he not only sold to me lower than GC he set it up at no additional cost and it plays absolutly beautifully. He has done some repair and set-up for me at a lower price than anywhwere else. I was there just today and I was more than impressed by the way he handled a phone sale for a horn instument. Even though that is not his specialty he went out of his way to explain the differences between a student and intermediate and pro caliber
instrument. The whole time there were customers coming and going and all of them Jim helped in some way. I have traded in amps, guitars, cases etc and Jim has always made me happy.
I can say I never got a "Bad Deal" in any way shape or form. When there is something I am looking for that he does not have in stock Jim will always find a way to get it ASAP. He also never charges for shipping, as most others do.
In fact I bought a used PA amp several years ago for my monitors and it developed a pretty good hum. I was expecting to pay some sort of repair bill and Jim offered my a free used replacement of similar wattage, not just make, or a free repair. Now why would he do this, It's called customer service.
The amp that went noisey was a Peavey and Jim gave me a used Crown. I don't know where he stood money wise nor is it my business, all I can say is he will always try to make you happy.
I won't be annon. my name is Pat Rodig. It seems to me that just like all posts an annon. poster usually has a hidden agenda, like working for GC or some other music shop.
As far as selling vintage or antique pieces I have seen Jim do just that. And why should Jim sell this type of thing less than what a collector on the internet would pay ???

Only an 'anonymous' competitor would use the word 'ripoff' and advertise another store like that in a review w/o even saying how he was ripped off. Don't believe it. The Music Museum's been there forever. They've got more guitars in there than any GC I've ever seen. I've been dealing with them over 10 years, bought lots of gear there (I'll buy a 25 year old Gibson any day), and outfitted my band with a $12,000 PA - ALL from the Music Museum. I got good prices (not the best in the world -- but who does) - but you know what - You get what you pay for. A cheap price can bite you in the end, if and when you have a PROBLEM, and I can't afford THAT kind of ripoff - I'm dependant on my gear for a living. There's a sign in there that says 'No service=No bargain' and it's true. If you're spending good money, you want to make sure whoever you are buying it from knows what they are talking about (Music Museum does), and it's gonna stay working (they keep it working and FAST). Those other stores (even GC) don't even have service departments. Music Museum helped me out with things more times than I can count, both with answers and repairs, and even let me owe them $200 on a handshake once because I forgot my wallet. That don't sound like being a 'ripoff' to me. I won't go any place else and you shouldn't either if you take your music investments seriously - If you are only looking for the best price in the world when you are buying something, you're throwing your money away, if the store (or person) you are buying it from can't or won't fix it when (not IF) a problem comes up -- Music Museum won't let you down. I recomend this shop to everybody.

Jim is a great guy when you get to know him, I have done business with him many times. He is the owner, and like anybody in business, you don't have time for tire kickers, being in business that long you know who is shopping and who is looking. Jim can set a guitar up, thats for sure, and does great repair work.
Well its 10/19/09, and did 2 deals with Jim, I bought a nice tele, and just got a nice amp, over a 1 month period, and im happy with the service and price. small business has to make a profit, and they are all the same in a way. so you haters should open a music store, then i can buy off you and get it under your cost.and see if your around for 35yrs. just my 2cents.

I don't know when the last time you were there -- but this is 2008 and that store is packed to the gills, with tons of goodies, new and used. I've been dealing with the Music Museum since the 1970's, first as a young teenager, and later as a professional musician, which I have remained through my life. All I can say is that I've gotten a lot of great deals from Jim, over the years, and so have many of my friends -- and a couple pretty hard to find things which I know he specializes in --- but the trick is that you've got to get to know him, and also let him know you are not just a 'window shopper' or expect the lowest price in the entire universe (the guy's got to make SOME money to stay in business - and I'm sure he doesn't get all that stuff for free). I've seen him get uptight when he's doing something and somebody bugs him for a bunch of prices (is that rude or just busy ?), but I've also see him stop in his tracks to take care of someone's problem, when someone else was standing at the counter with cash in hand (is that rude or just helping someone else ?). You don't stay in business as long as that store's been around if you don't take care of your customers - and he's pulled me out of more than a couple binds over the years, which is a lot more than I can say for the last big store to hit this area -- Remember Mars ???? And it's no better with the OTHER big guys around now -- and you know who they are. I'd recomend Music Museum very highly - but you've got to get to know Jim, the owner, a lot better than just coming in once a year and asking him for 10 prices on stuff he probably is just guessing on.

On the surface, this is a typical small to medium vendor of your typical musical instrument lines- Ephiphone, Ibanez, etc.. But looking through the stacks and stacks of used gear in the second and third rooms of the store many vintage, rare, and oddball items from the 80s and 90s are waiting to be discovered. Sadly, I'm not sure if any of that gear is really for sale as every time I have inquired about it I have been quoted eBay x 3 $$$. And they won't budge. It's a shame, because many of the items back there definitely sparked my gear lust!

I had some work done on my guitars, the person I dealt with, Jim was extremely helpful. The work was excellent and the price reasonable. I have been to other large guitar stores that don't care about you or your guitar, Jim treats your guitar as if it were his, and treats you as if you were an old friend. It sad that "Mom and Pop shops" like Music Museum are becoming a thing of the past. I would recommend the Music Museum wholeheartedly.

There selection in guitars and musical equipment is relatively small. The shop is also very small making it quite an annoyance to shop. Service isn't the best either. Overall I wouldn't say there that bad if you need your gear quickly.
