Great place to get Mexican food!
3Great place to get Mexican food!
El Azteca is awesome! The food is great; not too salty, very authentic. They have the best Mole sauce around. The vegetarian section of the menu is much larger then other Mexican restaurants in the area. The pricing is extremely

This is the best Mexican food I've ever eaten. In my youth, I was a trained cook by trade, and I can tell you all food I have ever been served in this restaurant has been freshly made. This had been a place I have brought family and friends for years, and everyone I've ever brought has been as impressed as I have been. I have seen the little boy, but I haven't ever seen him misbehaving or disturbing guests. Many of these reviews seem filled with fictitious malice. My father is getting gastric bypass surgery in three days, and this is where I'm taking him for our final "normal" dinner out. Need I say more?

Pros: Good, consistant service, great food, good value.
Cons: I have never had a negitive experience worth mentioning.
Food was good (not as salty as one might expect). Service was good, portions were generous and price was very reasonable. Definitely more authentic and tasty compared to Don Pablos or On the Border. Only negative was little boy bouncing basketball up and down the isles (family owned and operated)

GONE DOWN HILL ! I use to really enjoy going to this place. Service was always ok, but the food used to be worth it. Things have gone down hill in the last few months The last 3 times we went a waitresses had her 2 yr old in the dining room-she lets him roam, play, jump in the booths with patrons, eat from their chip bowl. Then came the clincher. Right before she brought our check a COCKROACH climbed up the wall next to our table. Never Again !

I use to really enjoy going to the place. We went often. The food was decent and fresh. Service was always so-so, but the food used to be worth it. But things have gone down hill in the last several months
The last 3 times we were in the place,(on a weeknight) one of the waitresses had her 2 yr old son in the dining room of the restaurant and she allows him to roam and play, jump in the booths with patrons, eat from their chip bowl, and the whole time, she just smiles at him. Friends & family have reported the same experience
This was the case the last time we were there and I couldnt wait to get out. Then came the clincher. Right before she brought our check, a COCKROACH climbed up the wall next to our table. That is enough for me - I am outta there

Pros: Cheap
Cons: COCKROACHES
This is surely the best mexican place around here. I eat here at least once a week for lunch. So much more authentic than On the Border. And great, friendly service.

Pros: Good food, good service
Cons: sometimes gets crowded
R U Kidding - Who wrote go to "On the Border"? That is NOT Mexican and it is terrible, pre-frozen, microwaved, over-rated, etc

I totally agree with the other reviews. Not the cleanest or the friendliest. And the food is just soso. Nothing very special that stands out on the mneu.
1This place has mediocre food and the inside of the restaurant is not the cleanest. Service was slow. If you are in the mood for Mexican, try On The Border.
3In the area from Southern Cal.(where Mexican food actually has taste) my family was hungry and El Azteca was nearby. My wife warned me that we couldn't expect much from a Mexican restaurant in NJ. Next time I'll listen to the wife. Salsa tasted like tangy pasta sauce. Waitress determined our Cokes from our root beers by employing the sniff test "This one is Coke." Snifff, Snifff. "No wait, it's root beer." The kids pronounced the enchiladas " They taste just like Swanson's, but thats ok because I like Swanson's." Enchiladas filled with tasteless ground beef and smothered in canned sauce. Refried beans tasted canned. Stay away from this rundown dump.

Pros: near the hotels
Cons: everything else
This is an excellent mexican restaurant! The tortilla chips are served piping hot and the salsa is wonderful! Friendly and fast service--This will definitely be added to my list of favorites in the area!

The food is OK. There are better Mexican food places in the area. The restaurant itself looks as if it could use a good scrubbing and updating.
Plenty of parking. Staff is OK.
This place has decent Mexican food and the service isn't too bad. Their margaritas are great however. The only problem I had with this place is that it was dimly light and it didn't feel as clean as I would of liked it to feel.
3Anyone who has actually been to Mexico more than once, and off the resort into actual Mexico, will appreciate this food. It's real Mexican food, not some hyped up "low brow" tex-mex or over priced wanna be gourmet. I have spent many years living in Mexico on and off and I know the real thing. THIS is the real thing: rice, beans, and the same 15 or so ingredients done 100 different ways all of which are delicious and fun to eat. If you think this is not real Mexican food, or some frozen reheated food substance than you don't deserve to eat there anyway. Try it and realize what real Mexican food can be, and in New Jersey of all places!

Pros: Excellent authentic Mexican food!
Cons: none.
If you want real Mexican food that the true Mexicans eat, this is it. If you want the spanish influenced or the American versions of Mexican food - go to a ChiChi's look-alike. The only thing this place was missing was the children selling chiclets and the come-ons from the vendors. I grew up in San Diego and spent many afternoons in Tecate and yes - even the border town of TJ - and at the bullfights and soccer games. This is the real Mexican food. Try the Chalupa - and do not expect the type of thing you get at a taco bell.

Pros: Very Mexican
Cons: Poor location - strip mall and no advertising.
Since having authentic Mexican food in Mexico in the 1990's - I searched in vain for good Mexican food in New Jersey. Until I found El Azteca. The meals are very authentic and tasty.
BYO beer or BYO tequila and they'll make margaritas.

Pros: great flavor

This is an excellent choice for anyone who is sick to death of Tex Mex. Located in an inauspicious shopping center, the outside (and the inside, for that matter) dont look like much, but the food speaks for itself. The chefs serve up a variety of authentic dishes often with unexpected twists. Their selection of Mexican sodas is a real treat. If you're lucky "Choripollo" will be on the special board. It is a savory chicken breast paired with Mexican sausage and served with rice, more than enough for dinner and lunch the next day. "Queso Diablo" is a must have as an appetizer -spicy pico de gallo tucked in beneath a smooth layer of bubbling cheese. In combination with their fresh tortilla chips it can only be described as addictive. You will not have room for dessert. The service is always friendly and efficient if not above and beyond.

Pros: good parking, friendly service, inexpensive
Cons: bland atmosphere
There is not much to say about watered down salsa or sloppy servings. I was ashamed to dig in the sour cream and lettuce and all the other disguises my food was covered in. I knew that they were hiding something under all the slop on my plate. What I found was worst, tasteless and heartless portions of reheated frozen aisle entrees! I thought the food would be better since it was the first time I saw true Mexican food names on the menu. The only problem was that the interpretations were commecialized and cooked by anything but a true cook. Run Azteca! Run!
