We sent our two children, ages 5 and 6, to day camp for the first time this summer. I was very nervous about it. They had never been to any kind of camp before. I also knew that they would be in various pools, and when they started camp, they didn't know how to swim. The swim lessons at the camp were a godsend! Within 4 weeks, my 6 year old learned how to swim both above and under the water, and my 5 year old isn't too far behind. The kids had a blast at the YMCA day camp this summer. In addition to learning how to swim, they did other activities such as arts and crafts. There were also various performers who visited the camp. They also made friends. Most of the counselors here are in their late teens and early 20s, and they're great with the kids. Parents are kept well informed about camp schedules, and it is all very organized. The campers are kept busy and are entertained all day long. All for a price that's right--the YMCA day camp was a fraction of the cost of some of the other, more "elite" day camps in the area. I'm pretty sure they'll be returning again next summer.
PROS: Great day camp with flexible scheduling
CONS: None
