I wish I had read Jesse Z's review sooner. It might have saved my dog.

I have had several pets cared for here, but no longer. Dr. Ashman failed to recognize the symptoms of poisoning in our dog -- he never did any blood work or thought to ask about poison. It took THREE VISITS over two days before he had us take our dog to an animal hospital in Fairfield.

I have no kind words for that place either; even though they immediately diagnosed him, they sent him home after two days (and several thousand dollars) of Vitamin K treatment, and no blood transfusion. He died a day later.

If all your pet needs is shots and a checkup, Ashman can do that. But if you think there is anything more serious with your pet, run --don't walk -- to another vet.

I have been using this Hospital for about 4 years ,,, routine visits and Emergency - A great place with caring dedicated staff,

I read the review on the person who lost their dog , It is a terrible thing to experince., however one thing I find missing from the review is what did this dog pass away from that the hospital missed ?
Every time I have brought my pets to this hospital , the diagnostics and treatments have been right. The staff and Doctor are easy to talk with , I find them to be a no bull facility ,

Try them - you will not be dissapointed

I have been reading the reviews I have to first sorry for the lost to the gentleman who lost his dog. But I have been going there forever. Dr Ashman is kind hearted and cares vey much about my pets. I love his staff I think the girls that work there are kind and very knowledgeable always there to answer any question I have never a problem when I call. So on my view I highly recommend The West Milford Animal Hospital. In my heart you will not be sorry.

First and foremost, because of Dr. Ashman, my 5 year old dog passed away the other day. We initially brought our dog in for a check-up because we were concerned about a hacking he would make when he got excited from play or from even seeing us come home. Dr. Ashman reported that our dog's health was fine, his heart was okay, and he didn't see anything wrong with him. Recently, on 2/22/2012, we brought our dog back into the office because we noticed he had tapeworms. Dr. Ashman gave him medicine to dissolve the tapeworms, and also diagnosed our dog with chronic bronchitis. He, AGAIN, said that our dog's heart was fine, and that he will be lethargic, have a loss of appetite, and be generally unhappy for a week or so. Between the day our dog was in on 2/22/2012 and the day our dog passed away on 2/25/2012, our dog expressed severe lethargy, we had to carry him up our stairs, and to bushes to use the bathroom on. We had to hand feed him, and give him water by hand. Occasionally, our dog would drink a lot of water on his own. He ate VERY little, I'm talking...a handful of food over 3 days. He was prescribed medicine by Dr. Ashman, in which our dog took according to Dr. Ashman's orders, many times by forcing it into our dog's mouth, and making him swallow. On 2/24/2012 at the end of the night, our dog expressed the heightened amount of lethargy. 2/25/2012, 6:30AM, my fiancee took our dog outside to go to the bathroom (carried him), and brought him back inside to our hall doorway, in which our dog collapsed, and lay on his side. She came and got me immediately, and I went over to our dog to see that he was on his last breath. I put my hand on his side, and called out his name to see if he'd look at me, and within a matter of seconds, I caught our dog's last breath. I'm sure Doctor Ashman is a great Doctor to a lot of the non-serious cases of check-ups, etc. But in the event that your dog is displaying ANY signs of a serious problem, I CANNOT EXPRESS MY URGE FOR YOU TO GO TO ANOTHER HOSPITAL ANY MORE THAN I AM NOW. Our experience with Dr. Ashman has always been pleasant, his candor and the way he conducts business with pet owners is fine. But he had TWO OPPORTUNITIES to run deeper tests on our dog. My dog is like my CHILD. I had two dogs, and my surviving dog will NEVER step foot in Dr. Ashman's office again, for her safety. Dr. Ashman's thoroughness is in complete question because of his neglect to run a test to see if our dog's heart needed further medical attention. Money was, and never will be an issue for me and my fiancee when it comes to taking care of our dogs, our children. I read reviews on websites of just about ANYTHING, and I know there are people who are just defaming subjects for review just for the sake of being negative, but this was my dog's LIFE that was on the line. I am SUGGESTING THAT YOU TAKE YOUR DOG ELSEWHERE. A DOG'S LIFE ENDED BECAUSE OF MALPRACTICE ON DR. ASHMAN'S BEHALF.

I know Dr. Ashman when he first came to the West Milford Animal Hospital and that is over 25 years ago and wouldn' t bring or trust my pets with anyone else - Dr. Ashman and his Staff are so kind not only to me but show great love to all the animals that come in - I have 3 cats under his care right now and my one has come down with cancer - I think it broke his heart as much as mine to have to tell me - but I know my cat will be in the best of care until it is time for him to go! Your pets are always his first interest.

I think this is the best vet i've ever had, my dog Honey had a stroke in May of 2009, they didn't overcharge me and gave me the best advice to care for my dog..who recovered from the stroke only to pass away 9/28/09 at the age of 15. My other dog Beauty was recently diagnosed with Cancer...she only just turned 6 on 1/18/10...they were very helpful and caring, i would recommend to anyone, very straight forward but sympathetic.

Dr. Ashman and his staff are excellent. They are caring individuals who treat you and your pet with respect. I had been going to another vet for years and switched to Dr. Ashman about 5 years ago and it was the best thing I ever have done for my pets! Such a clean facility and Dr. Ashman show much compassion.

I have had to take my pets to this animal hospital on a few occasions when my regular vet was on vacation, and Dr. Ashman was on call for him. I was very happy with the service received. It's a clean and modern facility with a professional atmosphere. Even though I was not a regular client they treated my pets and me with kindness.
