We've seen a big change in our daughter since we came here three years ago. She has so much more confidence in herself and she has become a very good dancer. She was thrilled to perform for the first time in a talent show at her elementary school. All of our experiences at cherney dance studio have been very positive. It is like a family there. We plan to return again and again for many years to come.

I have danced for a good portion of my life. Most of my instruction took place at world-class schools such as ABT and Alvin Ailey in Manhattan.

When we moved to NJ, I honestly didn't expect to find the same level of expertise, but I never imagined that schools like this one could be allowed to operate under the guise of providing dance instruction.

There is no ballet barre warmup. There is no center jazz warmup. Students spend months, literally, learning one dance for their annual recital. Exoribitant costume fees and mandatory ticket purchases are standard operating procedure.

Teachers in this school are incapable of demonstrating steps properly. Hence they cannot critique or offer advice when students falter. Actually, I doubt if they actually notice.

Parents who give this school five stars have no background in dance, have never seen how a real studio operates, and wouldn't know a jete from a jet aircraft. All they see is their children in costume on a stage, "performing." I can't blame them for their lack of knowledge: I myself wouldn't know a great soccer coach from a psychopath because I've never played that game. Parents also tend to know one another from schools, sports, etc. and enjoy that kind of social interaction.

There are several very good schools out there, although perhaps not as close geographically. I now send my daughter to a company school in Livingston (NJB), and I can honestly say that it was the smartest decision I could have made. She's in her twenties, loves ballet and jazz and intends to make them part of her life forever.

Thirty minutes (usually more like 25) is unheard of for a class -- with the possible exception of preschool movement classes. You need an hour minimum, period. Ballet requires a barre. Jazz requires a warmup. You won't get these here.

If you want your kids to develop a lifetime love of dance, take them somewhere else. Please.

My niece loves her classes at Cherney Dance Studio! She looks forward to going each week and thinks her teachers are the best. She had a great time this summer performing at Great Adventure. She was very proud to win 1st place Gold Trophies in competitions. We enjoy watching the performances and I would recommend this studio to anyone. Thank you!

Probably the worst dance studio in the entire state. Instead of teaching the fundamentals, these people teach "dances" to be performed at their recital in June. There is absolutely no syllabus, no ballet barre or center jazz warmup. Kids leave this school after 15 years thinking that they can dance, only to find that they cannot make the first round of cuts on their college dance teams.... Even among other dance schools, Cherney is considered to be a bad -- albeit sad -- joke. Parents, do your homework. Find out how a real class is conducted, so that you can give your kids the lifetime gift of dance. Teachers here cannot even pronounce the steps properly, yet alone perform them.

Cherney Dance studio is not for the professional kind of dancer. It is best for young kids who would like to give dancing a try. The studio is very small and they do not offer many dance classes.
