Ratings_icons my visit to this dump

saw this place on the travel channels 101 chowdown countdown and all i can say is that we drove there from ny and wasted our time the food was horrible the pancakes were bland and tasted like really bad pancake mix and my omelet which was a chicken broccili and cheese was flavorless and bland the hash brown that came with the meal looked like they were cooked in used engine oil they were so dark and the coffee was way watered down and had absolutely no flavor
also the restaurant was dirty as hell with crud spoons and forks all over also how is it that a pancake house only has one flavor of pancake syrup my fiancee ordered the 4 medium pancakes with strawberrys and blueberries and she could only down 1 pancake it was so bad and that one she had to drench in syrup to eat the service was horrible too i never was offered a refill on my coffee not that i wanted one but at least offer and upon leaving i went to the bathroom and the bathroom was dirty look if you want good pancakes i hate to say it but go to ihop they have multiple favors of syrup awesome omelets and the best pancakes in the world and no im not an employee of ihop

Ratings_icons Country Pancake House is over the top

Channy W.

I read all the reviews before I went and I must say I had a different experience. I found parking without any problems I was seated as soon as I got there and my waitress was pleasant. The portions were huge and inexpensive. But I went on a Wednesday around lunch time so that's probably why I had a good experience

Ratings_icons Country Pancake House is well worth the trip

maurice g.

I first saw this on the travel channel on extreme pig outs. Not much to look at from the outside, but once inside you will NEVER forget it. AWESOME! I first went on Father's day [treated myself] and I have been a weekly customer ever since. The portions are so huge, i go on Sundays and have enough food to take home to eat thru Wednesday. Today, 7/5/09 I had the Bacon & chedder pancakes. Anna was my waitress as usual, and did an excellent job. I met the owner Milan for the first time tonight. Good long conversation. My son had a bacon & sausage omlette [which was made with 9 eggs], that came with hash browns and two medium pancakes. They challenged him to finish it. He couldn't, but he came very close. He had 2 apple juices & i had a diet soda. Total Bill- $21.95. That is cheaper then normal portions at I-HOP. I recommend this to all my friends, [I even took my ex-wife]. I tell them all the same thing; when the food comes out, don't let your jaw hit the table. It isn't too embarrassing because they expect it. But it is always funny to see a new customer's reaction.

Ratings_icons Country Pancake House is not worth the wait!

Jaymes H.

I enjoyed the atmosphere in the community this restaurants is located in but to tell you the truth it wasn't worth the 30 min wait. You have to run out frequently to feed the parking meter the place is crowded but the waitress was pleasant and tried her bast to make the experience bearable.. So on a scale of 1 to 10 I give it a four and P.S. don't order the Kansas dish the steak was like eating a leather shoe

Ratings_icons Great Place, Huge Menu

Ivan T. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,800

This place is one of my favorite restaurants. They have the largest menu I have ever seen. There are literally hundreds of items on the menu. The pancakes are awesome; banana nut is my favorite. And the chocolate chip corn bread they give you is amazing.

Ratings_icons gotta love massive portions and choices

Sam B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,078

the country pancake house is well-known by people in the area. it's a little small- definitely too small for large groups, especially during key meal times and for sunday brunch when its really crowded. It's such a warm and cozy environment and I've liked every meal that I've ever gotten here. The prices are reasonable and they offer much more than pancakes. there is so much variety on the menus that it's a little overwhelming, but exciting at the same time. the meals are also huge (supersized, really) so you always leave with a doggy bag. If you go for breakfast, realize that you'll also end up with enough leftover for lunch and maybe even a snack too. Sometimes you might end up eating more than you want-- especially because they give you a basket of free bread and chocolate chip cornbread to start which is sinfully delicious. My friends and I joke that it should be called "Country Cornbread House... with some pancakes." It's a lot of carbs so be aware that it's not necessarily the best place to go if you're on a strict diet, although they have light selections and the salads are good. They also have delicious whole-wheat pancakes with lots of fiber. I love this place for the occasional treat. I prefer coming here for breakfast or brunch because the single window offers a lot of natural sunlight.

Ratings_icons Watch your kids, you will be fine.

Bruce N.

This place is amazing!! Great food humungous portions, decent pricing (not cheap not expensive) but the place is small. And when you have children running around unsupervised and strollers blocking the isles, it is a problem. I have been to this restaurant hundreds of times, on a few occasions I have had my dining experience disrupted by children screaming, bumping into the tables and the parent not doing anything about it. Its not the kids fault, it is lack of parenting. Control your children and you will have a great meal, and enough to bring home for another meal later. As for the wait staff, sorry they are not as jovial as the kids working at Chucky Cheese. All the times I have been there, I have never had a problem with them.

Ratings_icons Amazing food and misunderstood people

jude a.

Look...as soon as I read reviews about the place over 2 years ago in the Star Ledger, I became obsessed with making the trek to Ridgewood, NJ. Since then, I have been an almost weekly patron unless I had business to attend to. The food is amazing, the portions HUGE, and the service WAYYYY better than some of you are giving credit for. I can understand sometimes after going on different days and times how service can be described as "adequate" at best. It is a place of volume and the waitresses make their money on volume. I have also seen customers get somewhat rude with the service. The place is small. It gets packed. And if folks have kids running around or are getting snappy with the service or lack therof, take into consideration whether you are helping the situation or could do what the waitresses do. Then cast your "stones" as you wish. Oh, and they are Macedonian. And the waitresses do split their tips accordingly. If you question me or this review, mention my name to a couple of the waitresses, the staff, or even the owner. They know who I am. They are all quality people and I haven't been to an IHOP or Perkins since.

Ratings_icons POLISH not RUSSIAN

Kelly S.

they people that own and work the place are POLISH not RUSSIAN, get the facts right if you are going to make those kind of remarks ... the service def leaves much to be desired, but clearly the food speaks for itself, as there is always a wait.

Ratings_icons GREAT FOOD but...

Anonymous

I agree with other reviewers, the RUSSIAN OWNERS AND WAITRESSES (some of the owners family) are rude. They are vey stoic as from the nature of their culture.

They take advantage of their HISPANIC employees. I witnessed this first hand as they were not allowed to take any of the tips but did most of the work. Obviously the owners family are the waiters and waitresses. I was upset to see the tips hanked from the hard HISPANIC workers.

I have to say that the food is awesome. You definetly get band for your buck. There is a plate sharing charge as portions are large.

Ratings_icons Be prepared to wait...but it's worth it

Dana C.

I live one town over from the Pancake House. The place rises well above IHOP when it comes to quality. The pancakes are huge. One meal can be split by two people. They have a juice bar with all types of fruit juices (a bit pricey). In all, the food is not cheap but considering other Ridgewood prices the food is priced right. I would suggest calling an order in an picking it up. You feel good to cut the entire line and you don't have to worry about the "not-so-friendly-at-times" staff.

I could see treating disruptive patrons this way

Ratings_icons Horrible, not kid friendly...

lisa d.

I went to lunch with a friend of mine and our children. When I sat down to feed my newborn daughter I was told after a few minutes to move because I was blocking the waitress. After I had moved, the owner then came back to my table to tell me to move my stroller. I asked him if I could finish feeding my daughter first, he said "You need to move it now." After a few minutes the owner came back and told us we needed to move our table because this wasn't a "nursing home." When I said politely that I needed to finish feeding my daughter he said it wasn't his problem . Obviously we will never return due to ho w poorly we were treated. It was sad to me that this was supposedly a child friendly place and we were treated with such rudeness and disrespect because we have children.

Ratings_icons We LOVE Pancakes!

Pamela C.

I was initially going to rate this "Very Good", only taking a star from the Ridgewood Country Pancake House due to its servers who are lacking in the friendly department, however the food is too good to lose a star based on personality! When seated you are served this delicious warm cornbread - some with melted chocolate chips on top, and some plain. If you're a true pancake lover this is the place for you. With an entire page of the enormous menu dedicated to every pancake under the sun, the Pancake House even lets you choose the base of your pancake (buttermilk, whole wheat, etc.) So those looking for some healthier treats can relax and enjoy. The pancakes come in a regular or the size of a pizza - enough to feet at least 6 hungry pancake lovers. Even your omelets come with a free side of pancakes! On top of the pancakes, which has made them a legend in the area, they carry a long list of omelette's, freshly made smoothies, all types of lunches, dinners, desserts and juices. The best part? Everything on the menu is cheap, cheap, cheap!

Ratings_icons not just pancakes

Amy W. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 498

Do you want a really good breakfast at an upscale breakfast place? Then check out country pancake house right on the main street in the heart of Ridgewood. Fresh ingredients, large portions and a friendly staff are just the tip of the ice berg as to why this place is so wonderful. The prices are in line with the area (Ridgewood = always a little more money). Expect a wait on any weekend you go here for sure. But, depending how long it can be really worth the wait. You can always find something new on this menu. I recommend the waffles too- so good. Parking in Ridgewood is where you can find one. Your best bet is to park in the lot behind Irish eyes and walk over. It is a nice town to stroll in anyway.

Ratings_icons Great pancakes!

J L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 8,396

Their pancakes can be served in two ways -- small or large. The large are (I kid you not) tire sized, and even the small are quite large. They are delicious, and there are so many different varieties you can choose from. Their regular food is pretty good as well. Gets very, very crowded on Sundays. Also, parking is all on the street, which given the day can get a little tricky.

Ratings_icons A Great Family restaurant

lisa b. | insider Insider | Rank: 15,684

If you are hungry, come here and order the great pancakes -- all varieties. I personally love the raisin scones -- they are crunchy, and buttery and not very expensive. The place gets packed on the weekend mornings so be prepared for a wait.

Prices are good for the amount of food that you get. Go there hungry!!

Ratings_icons Country Pancake HOuse

Susie A. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 372

If you and your family are BIG eater Country Pancake House is for you. I've never seen pancakes like the ones they serve here. They are platter sized. They are the Empire State pancake. They come with every imaginable topping in case the plainold pancake doesn't fill you up!

You have to plan ahead since it gets very crowded here, especially on Sunday.

PROS: Enormous pancakes
CONS: Gets crowded
