Best Resturant in years!!! My 12 kids love it there. The only thing was that usually you have to share a habachi table but not with my family of course..

Poor Udon - don't try this here. They used fresh fish for Nigiri sushi, but the rice was hard and likely not the Sushi grade rice so it did not bring out the taste of the fish. Didn't try the Hibachi here, but not willing to take chances. Their tempura was not good either (over cooked).

I do not recommend this place at all.

I went to Shiki to celebrate a friend's 23rd birthday. We choose to go to Shiki for drinks since their website boasted a 9-1 Happy Hour. However when we arrived, we were rudely informed that happy hour was no longer available on Fridays since their business was slow. I didn??t graduate with a business degree, but I am pretty sure that 13 young adults buying drinks for the rest of the night would have helped their business. Considering we had multiple out of town guests with us we would have stayed there if their service had not been so horrible.

After sitting down the menus were basically thrown at us. The server then returned and abruptly asked us what we wanted. We were then told to all go up the bar and present out ID's. As I waited to show mine, the hostess yelled at me to "sit down right now". I tried to explain to her why I was standing but she just continued to repeat her yelling rant. What made the whole situation even more ridiculous was that the owner of the restaurant was sitting right at the bar witnessing everything. We ordered a round of drinks and then decided to take our business elsewhere. The check was a whole other issue. They watched us like hawks as we divided the bill and wouldn??t leave the side of the table. This was completely unprofessional. As we were leaving I went up to the owner to speak with him about the rude service we had received. His was response to me was "frankly your business isn??t needed here". No apologies or anything to try and mend the horrible service and rude staff. He said that he was too busy watching the game on TV to deal with the issues.

I will never set foot into Shiki again. I have never been treated more poorly at a restaurant.

If there was an option for 0 stars that is what I would have given them. The older Asian hostess literally screamed at one of the girls in our group for literally no reason. When we asked to speak with a manager, the owner did not display the least bit of concern and was extremely rude. This was my second time being dissatisfied there. The previous occasion, I told the chef that I have a fatal allergy to shrimp and that alternate cooking arrangements would be needed. He acknowledge my request and then cooked my food on top of the uncleaned surface where he had just cooked shrimp. The bottom line is this, the food is mediocre and unfortunately a rude owner and hostess spoiled what would have been a great night. The rest of the staff was very pleasant, but the rudeness that my group was treated with will have me and friends boycotting this place.

We had been going to the Union Restaurant for probably 25 years until it lost its lease a few years ago.

We recently moved to East Brunswick and tried the Middletown location. Food was great as ususal, I think much better than Benihana.

But...for some reason the Union, NJ location was just a much more exotic restaurant inside, at least for us. Maybe it was the Japanese music playing, or the decor, or all of the above, but it was and always will be our favorite restaurant and ever time we dined there it truly was an event and something we looked forward to.

And one more thing.. no one ANYWHERE can ever compare to the drinks the used to serve in Union. They were the absolute best, ANYWHERE!!!

I remember this being one of the only Japanese Steak Houses that you could find..and although many have sprung up, I'll always have this as my top spot when I'm in Monmouth County. Everything from the soup to the ice cream is fantastic.

Dining at Shiki Japanese Steak House is a true dining experience. The sushi and sashimi is fresh. The hibachi meals, cooked to order right at your table, are made with the freshest and finest ingredients. The meal includes soup, salad, hibachi dinner, green tea, and rice.

There are a lot of exotic drinks, like the scorpion and the bomb for your drinking pleasure.

We went to dinner yesterday and ordered 2 meals -- the bill was $70. I asked them to honor a coupon and they refused. We used the main plate to share a salad and when asked to have a clean dish the waitress rolled her eyes at me and then went to complain to another waitress right in front of me. The last straw was when we were leaving the waitresses were complaining right in front of us about their tip. We tipped over 10% and would have left more had they honored my coupon. I found this to be appalling behavior from a restaurant and I will never return to that location. It did not help that I had indigestion they rest of the night from the aggravation and meal.

Pros: my kids liked to watch them cook

Cons: unnecessary aggravation

As soon as you walk in, you're welcomed by a staff of smiling faces. The food is great--I usually order the chicken hibachi dinner. There's many options in terms of sauces, PLUS you get rice, soup, and salad. The chefs are entertaining and do not hesitate to show their skills. Definitely check this place out!

The prices are high for very average food. Considering the prices the portion sizes are pretty small and I left still hungry. There are several places that are cheaper with better food. I wouldn't go back.
