Do not skate here unless you want to be treated in a rude manner. My family went here for a public session and it was our children's first time on the ice. A rude instructor asked management to have our children leave the ice since their crying as first time skaters was distracting her lesson. I asked for a refund and was declined. When I asked about our children taking lessons, I was told they "would be distracting to the other students" since they may cry. The rink itself is old and worn down. The lobby is crammed and dirty with hardly any space to change into skates. Go to Ice Vault or Ice House for a real skating experience.

This place is horrible. Dingy, cramped lobby along with rude management and instructors who seem to own the ice - even during public sessions. My daughter was actually asked to leave the ice here because according to management she cried

I have never experienced a more unprofessional atmosphere. The white haired woman was blatantly rude and discouraging to 5 year old children who were skating for the first time ever. I would expect exceptions to be made regarding the ridiculous cone policy for first time skaters. This company is a joke and a dump. You are a disappointment to young children and don't deserve to serve the child population, you obviously have no respect for first time skaters...shame on you. Your loss.

I have gone there a few time over the last few years with my daughters. The girls took lessons, and really enjoyed the place, it is small and comfortable for young kids.

to the bad reviews above, I don't know, why should you get a refund because you voluntarily decided not to skate?

I raised four children in North Bergen County, and all of them learned to skate at the Fritz Deitl ice rink. It is not fancy, but rarely crowded and hosts a professional teaching staff. After reading a few negative reviews I felt compelled to write and urge anyone thinking of skating with small children to try this rink. If you're interested in an old world, homey atmosphere for ice skating, without the video games. This is for you. Mr. Deitl was a great skater in his day, and the rink stands as a testament to his love of the sport.

My husband learned to ice skate at Fritz Dietl and now, 30 yrs later my 4 yr old is taking lessons there. What a joy to see the professional staff teach a child who has never been on skates of any kind before to a) skate and b) be able to get up by himself if he falls - all in the first 1/2 hour lesson. No crying, no hugging the wall, only joyful satisfaction coming from learning to do things 'by himself'. Note that this was accomplished with inexpensive group lessons - no 'private training'. Fritz Dietl has been a staple in the community for generations. It's not the newest or fanciest rink around and nobody would argue that point. There is no 'hang out' potential for teenagers like a niche with video games or food. It's just a family ice rink with professional instructors should you choose to take advantage. I assure you I do not work there as some reviewers have accused - I think my 4 yr old can skate better than me after two lessons at Fritz Dietl! If you have young kids - give it a try. If your kids have never skated before, consider the group lessons which are fantastic and will give your kids the ability to get on the ice with you for 'family time' without fear and potential need to request refunds.

if you want to bring your family...dont!!!!!! go anywhere else. the person who wrote the nice comment is obviously someone who has been going for years and feels an alleigance toward these rude people. the person who wrote the bad review is absolutly correct, maybe they are nice to their old customers but i was treated like they were doing my family a favor letting us skate in their rink. the attitude we got, for even requesting a refund when our daughter never even touched the ice was disgusting and a nice family trip turned into a bad day.

Cons: THE NASTIEST STAFF EVER!!

I read the bad review that this rink received and simply had to answer. I have been skating at this rink for years and have found them to be the best, family based business in the area - they are very cooperative, never nasty or negative (as the other reviewer implied).

Yes, they do have a "no refund" policy, which is clearly stated on the signs and they also make sure to verbally tell everyone who comes in with little children that there are no refunds, if the child decides (like children do) that they don't like something after 10 minutes!

What if the other reviewer took their child to the movies - the child decided that they didn't like the film - would they expect to get a full refund? No!!

Please try this skating rink for yourself - don't let one bad apple spoil the fun for you!

We had the most unsatisfactory experience with this place. First of all they are very rude and uncooperative. It was our first time ever skating with our boys (3 and 4) and they refused to discount or refund any money b/c our 3 year old screamed the whole time! He just wanted to be held, so my husband was holding but got told we weren't allowed to do this. So since we just got there, not even 5 minutes on the ice we had to bring him back in and one of us had to wait for our older son to finish, which was about 5 minutes later as well! I even asked for a voucher to come back just with our older son they refused that as well.

Plus, they are more expensive than the Ice Vault in Wayne. We are not sure if they are even a licensed facility b/c they have a big sign up on the front door about skating at your own risk (which then why it was a problem to hold our son I don't know b/c they already had themselves excused from liability!)

The people are extremely rude! I can't even stress this enough. So we ended up paying $52 to skate and rent the ice skates for a total of 10 minutes. It took us longer to get everyone skated up!

Oh - lastly - I don't think they own a zamboni b/c the ice was very choppy - not a great place to try and learn to skate!

GO TO THE ICE VAULT INSTEAD!! You will have a much better experience!

Are you looking for a place to go ice skating? Dietl is close and almost never crowded. It is an older ice skating rink; one can't really see the skaters skate due to the windows being so high but their are less injuries since their are less people. Snacks are available for purchase as well. Nice place to spend a rainy afternoon.
