From our mythical royal ambiance, our warm and friendly staff, to our robust and refreshing flavours, we welcome you to experience a culinary journey through Northern India at Akbar Restaurant
We recently through an event at Akbar and like most people have decided to never use their services again. We were over charged for many things and were given false promises. If for some reason you do decide to through an event here please make sure you read the contract fully and include all your requests in writing. Also, if you can try not to pay in full before the event because if things dont go as planned you will not get a refund. The food is not very good as well, we ordered the goat curry and it was undercooked, gulab jamon tasted like it was over dipped in sugar. These are just a few examples. The only positive thing I can say is that Das the manager and Gita are both very dedicated to there job and will try to help you out as much as they can while on the other hand the woman that owns the place does the exact opposite.

I don't even make money for writing this review, but i'm doing it because I feel strongly about this.
I used to love going to Akbar, it was my favorite restaurant. I chose to dine there for my 17th birthday a few years back, and they decided to use the actual restaurant for a 4 year olds' birthday party. I ate outside in a tent on a cold night on my birthday. Then a couple years later, the same thing happened!!! The wait for a table is crazy.
If you are in Edison, I recommend you go to Mogul.

This restaurant is definitely one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the Tri-State area. I remember my mom telling me about how she used to go to the Akbar in New York City, when they had a location there. I love how personable the service is and how they make you feel like being there is an experience, not simply just a place to enjoy a nice meal. All the food was superb, I highly recommend ordering their lamb chops. I was impressed with the waiters knowledge on wine pairings and I ended up with a bottle that I was very pleased with. I was dining with some vegetarians and they had no problem finding dishes that would accommodate their preferences. I ordered a variety of ice creams for desert, they were delicious! All in all, I will be coming back to this restaurant. It is a great place to come with your family, friends, or even on a date. On holidays, I advise everyone to make reservations, because the last time I was here on Mothers Day, I had to wait a bit for a table. They have improved alot recently and I look forward to dining there again!

You can get really good Biryani and other Non-Veg dishes. The quality of rice used for preparation is very good. Yoghurt and Curry also comes with biryani which makes it a very good meal and easy to take out if you are in a rush. You can call in advance and food is hot and ready to pickup when you reach.
PROS: Tasty non-vegetarian dishes
CONS: Spicy
