.

We have parents who after careful consideration chose to spend their remaining time at the Brookside Senior Citizen apartments located in Parsippany, NJ.

From the outside the complex looks and feels very welcoming. The caretakers have spent much time and effort ensuring that "first looks" help sell the units as most other features will surly disappoint.

The property features a lovely creek which runs the entire length of the facility and plenty of open space for relaxing, unless of course you stray to far and lose focus as the nearby pound absorbs you with often endless barking.

The interior has been updated to reflect a warmer living environment (the previous decor was as cold as the current management team) It was nice to see that they decided to move the lobby waiting area from in front of the entry doors as many would receive mean spirited looks from the residents looking onto those awaiting entry.

A fish tank, full kitchen, and large community room are positive features of the first floor.

Each level was redecorated with a unique color scheme chosen by the looks of it by school children still learning their colors. While the effort to help distinguish floors apart is recognized, more neutral colors might have been a better choice.

The units themselves leave much to be desired for the price and the main tenant type occupying the building. The flooring is horrible, however they do allow you to install your own carpet which is a plus.

Kitchens were recently updated with the cheapest possible components and appliances, but still an improvement to the extremely dated look prior.

Units do not feature a central HVAC, each unit does have building provided hot water heat (as required by NJ state law) Tenants are required to install and maintain their own wall unit (non standard size) which often does not adequately cool the rooms in the summer.

Need to plug something in? Well it better be where the architect intended it to be. Electrical outlets are limited and often oddly placed in the units we reviewed.

Bathrooms are tiny as expected, but the oddest part was the so called "Handi-capped" units we looked at which feature no special accommodation's other than a somewhat wider door. The other senior buildings in town featured roll in showers for those requiring special bathing needs.

Overall the units are average in comparison to other apartments in the area and leave a lot to be desired.

After interviewing several tenants and family members it was found that the most frustrating point of living at this complex was the poor management team and never ending "rule making" of the property management team.

When asked to comment on some of the concerns of the the tenants, we were ignored and asked to leave by the MOD. It is disheartening to see how some of our elderly are treated by an over zealous PM.
