We recently adopted 2 older cats from there and were told they were both up-to-date on their shots. I asked for a copy of the records and they said "oh have the vet call us". One cat was 3 years old and the other 6 months old. I called the vet for a visit and they said I had to have their records. Finally I went in and records were FABRICATED, just to give to the vet. The vet knew better when I gave him the papers. Well, after falling in love with my now 7 month old cat, I found out she has feline AIDS, and has to be put down, because of the other cat in the house.

I went to the pet store to tell them and they LIED saying "oh one of our employees brought these cats in for us to adopt" I said "No you are lying as you told us a little old lady had one of them and she couldn't care for it and the other one you said was given to you because they were moving and couldn't take her". At first I was not mad, but after thinking about what they are allowed to get away with. Telling me "it is not our policy to make sure they are healthy or have their shots, we give them a shot when they come in". BALONEY...both cats were in heat when we took them home and we didn't know it until that night. We were NEVER told they were in heat. I was asked "do you want a refund" Hell no, I wanted my cat I adopted. It just cost me $220 to find out I have to "Kill" a cat, pay that instead! Of course they won't do that. They just simply do not give a crap. I wish I had of read these reviews before going there. And these people writing "positive" reviews are either employees or ex-employees. I am going to start writing to politicians in Jersey to get the laws looked at if not changed the way pet stores adopt or sell animals. It is horrible that they take no responsibility for what they do.

I've dealt with this company over 5 years... Unfortunately they seem to be going down hill. I visited last week and I was SO disappointed. You smell feces when you walk thru the door.I noticed fish with ick, cats and rabbits with eye discharge. (one cat was sleeping in a litterbox) They are actually charging you for this!!! Their pets are beautiful but be prepared to pay a vet bill!!! I walked out feeling depressed I couldn't rescue them all. I try to support local businesses but I'll be going elsewhere.

Pennsville Pet Store sells completely and utterly Puppy Mill Dogs, hands down. Please do not be mislead by these loosely used terms like "kennel," "breeders," "brokers," and "USDA approved." DO YOUR RESEARCH. Most breeders (especially in PA) do not need permits or licenses to breed dogs. A kennel is legally defined as a place large enough to house a certain amount of dogs. A broker is someone who plays middle man and buys from the Puppy Mill to distribute to the stores, making the them perceived to be from some smaller, not-so-large-scale breeder. Just because your puppy is registered, purebred, or has papers does not define the actual thought put into his bloodlines, or how your puppy was cared for. USDA means they meet a certain set of MINIMUM requirements as a facility, which does not represent the quality of care their puppies receive. And if they come from Lancaster they are definitely Puppy Mill Bred, no exceptions.

I have a personal experience of an inbred, epileptic (grand-mal seizures), socially deprived puppy from Pennsville Pet Store with irreparable damages from his roots that has cost me thousands (and has cost his littermates their lives). Puppy Mills kill dogs - please watch a YouTube video or two and educate yourself. Annually, 7-8 million dogs and cats enter the shelter system, and only 3-4 million make it out. That means %50 are "left behind," or euthanized. Your local SPCA takes in over 2,000 cats a month - over 20,000 a year - and tens to hundreds are euthanized daily for space. Dogs are not much better. Adopt, don't shop. Commit to your animal for better or worse. And spay/neuter, don't breed.

They also sell kittens and puppies "completely vetted," stating they are "good to go" (I have heard this with my own ears) when it is IMPOSSIBLE for an 8 week-old pet to be fully vaccinated safely or legally. Puppies and kittens do not even GET the Rabies Vaccine (state required) until 12 weeks, and received Distemper (DHPP/FVRCP) vaccines all the way up to 4 months of age, depending on your veterinarian.

The supplies they have are great, BUT DO NOT BUY THAT ADORABLE PUPPY OR KITTY IN THE window. Save a life instead!! Cheers, The Certified Vet -Tech

I just want to say that any dog for sale is in need of a loving home no matter where they come from. Whether they come from a pet store-puppy mill or shelter. They do not make these choices for themselves. Our society makes the choice for them and they are the most innocent creatures alive. So please, consider this when deciding to purchase and care for a pet. Shelters are over crowded and some of the best dogs/cats are waiting for your help. Sincerely, Alena.

I am very disappointed with the store...I have been there several times, I liked it...until I got a puppy from them. Not even half an hour down the road he begins sneezing and hacking. I call the next day they told me to come back for antibiotics. So I drive back the following day, he did not improve he only got worse...How can you give a dog an antibiotic with out seeing him and finding out which one to give. So a few days later I come back because he is very sick, and my dogs are now exposed to whatever he is carrying, It is definitly more than kennel cough. Regardless A dog with kennel cough is unfit for sale (per NJCAPSA) When you spend the money they want in these pet stores They could atleast give you a healthy pup. The worst is no one told me. And then I was accused of being told, If i knew honestly I would not have bought him, or atleast got the antibiotics that day, Or came back when it was cleared up. Now I have several dogs, my moms ,my sisters, my best friends, who have all now been exposed. Why should I be inconvenienced and given a hard time because I was sold a sick dog. Not to mention I never recieved registration papers and Yes my puppy was from a puppy mill..one of pennsylvanias finest. hmm I guess I learned the lesson to never buy a puppy from a pet store.

I got my " puppy mill" dog from here. I fell in love with him the moment I saw him a pug/bulldog mix. I grew up with plenty of dogs in my life time and he is one of the best dogs ever. He was healthy and strong. I couldn't ask for better dog to buy. For other items there they order things I want and always have a price that is about the same as other stores. The staff has always been friendly to me.

I had a boyfriend who worked there for a short time. I am shocked at the bad reviews I see here. Most of them seem to be coming from people who wanted something the store could not accomodate (Returns/cheaper prices/ect.)
As for the "drop off kittens with no medical history" What do you want them to do? Call the township and have them put the kittens down? They give the kittens shots, have the examined by the vet (who they are more than happy to let you meet on his visiting day), and give them proper nutrition until they are purchased, this costs money, hense the price. And frankly, anyone who drops off kittens, wouldnt have paid for any "medical expenses". They do this to HELP the community, not to be greedy.
The puppy mill thing I dont know about, however I do know that several of the employees breed their own PETS at home and bring them to the store for sale so those puppies definatly arent puppy mill puppies.
Bottom line is***********
If people would stop LOOKING for something to be wrong with pet stores and let these SMALL BUSINESS owners do their jobs rather than dealing with your sqwabling about return policies and where they get their pets from and take a step back and see that the employees are caring, nurturing girls (most of them are girls maybe one or two men) they wouldn't have to stress about being at work, things would run more smoothly and YOU would have a more positive pet store experience.

Stop being ridiculous people... all pet stores arent bad

I've never had to buy a pet from them, but we do a lot of business with them for our pond, and i can tell you that they are the most kindest helpful people. They bend over backwards for my dad who is elderly and cannot come out anymore but he needs help with his outdoor pond. Paul and Vicki are wonderful, and their staff is great too. Keep up the good work as a nice family oriented old fashioned business.

Well, for those of you who don't know what goes on behind closed doors, lets just say ignorance is bliss!!! No, they do not vet check any of the kittens that are dropped off to them!! Or if they are running low they have a call list of people whose cats had kittens and are trying to get rid of the offspring. Not to mention the staff is not as knowledgeable as you think.. Selling tanks for animals (to new owners) that the animal will grow out of in a few months or what is required for the long term care and continuous health of the animals.. Costing the owner more money then needed... Some of the dogs are from Puppy Mills, however I will say some are not, there's your 50/50.. Tanks and cages are not maintained (cleaned) as they should be, just covered so people can't see.. The animals that come in from people looking to get rid of their pets (because of one reason or another) do not get quarantined for any period of time (so as to not spread any diseases), but are placed on the floor for resale. 95% of the time with other animals that could be perfectly healthy!!! So, lets read up on the animals or companions that we want or have.. This way you know what to looking for!!!!!!!

My experience as a consumer having purchased a puppy from this establishment is sound. A follow-up with the puppy I purchased revealed the puppy DID NOT originate from a puppy mill. I had followed up because I was suspicious but was pleased to find otherwise. I also purchased a couple of "dropped off" kittens a few years back. The kittens were later checked out by my own vet and found to be OK.

This establishment has advised me very well over the years I have been doing business with them. I strongly recommend them.

I have had nothing but great experiences with the Pennsville Aquatic/Pet Center. They offer a variety of pets and supplies along with clean and fresh atmosphere and friendly service. I've purchased a dog and a cat over the past few years and have had no problems. It's nice to be able to get specialty products for your pet in your own neighborhood!

Just because other pet stores get there puppies from puppy mills does not mean every store does. By law the store is required to have papers identifying where the animals come from and the vet records. They do NOT buy from a puppy mill but have honest hard working individual breeders in which they have in trusted for the past 9 years. They do have kittens being dropped of without shot records because they work with the township with the overpopulation of kitten and give the shots to them and adopt them out. Before posting an add make sure you get ALL your facts straight. This is an honest full line pet store with a friendly staff

Actually, the percentage of pet store puppies that come from puppy mills is 99%. 25 years ago (before I knew any better) I worked for a "breeder" that was actually a small puppy mill. He also drove to puppy mills in Lancaster PA to buy puppies, then would falsify records to say they were purebred. He had puppies flown in from mills in the midwest. I would pick them up at the airport. Now I've been in the veterinary business for 25 years. Has anyone ever asked this store where they get their puppies? I suggest someone do so. If you don't get a straight answer or they can't provide you with proof, then it would be safe to assume the puppies were obtained at a puppy mill. The mill may even have the store bamboozled into thinking they are a reputable breeder. I highly recommend adopting a pet or researching reputable breeders before buying.

I can honestly say that I do not think that the puppies that come from Pennsville Aquatics come from Puppy Mills. Just because statistics show that 90% of all puppies sold in a pet store come from puppy mills does not mean that there arent any good honest pet stores out there. There are more good pet stores out there then you think.

I seriously doubt any of the pups in this store (or any pet store) come from reputable breeders. Google puppy mills and see where pet store puppies come from.

It's all about greed!!

Stay away from this pet store. I have very good reason to believe that they use puppy brokers, not local breeders, to stock the store with dogs, because I met a woman who is a puppy broker that was on her way to them to drop off puppies. And I was in the store one day when someone dropped off a box of kittens that they had found and the store put them up for sale, with no medical history.

what a great business in a small city. Anything you want for your pet is available. It's clean and doesn't smell like the usual pet shop. The live animals are all clean and obviously well cared for. The staff is so friendly and well trained. You feel like a member of the family after a few trips.

Hope they'll be around for a long time to come.

This is a good place to shop with and for your pet. They have a nice selection of pets, a lot from local breeders. If you are in need of supplies you can usually find what you are looking for here and at a good price. The staff is friendly and helpful. They'll even trim your puppy's nails if requested. This isn't a big store so you and the animals don't get lost. It's a nice place to shop for the family pet.
