I have been a member since last year and not sure if i am liking this gym at all.. They have a regular radio station on the speakers. No proper cold/heat control. They cut classes as they like.. I am waiting for my contract to be up so i can move to LA FITNESS..

The steam room has not been working for more than two weeks now and now there is a sign up saying the sauna is not working. I really can not wait for my contract to be up, I'm very disappointed with this gym.

I LOVE this gym. Excellent classes, fair prices, educated and friendly staff and great setup. My favorite class is the boot camp class, it really pushes you to achieve high fitness levels. I highly recommend this gym to anyone in the area.

I have been a member since the opening day in Feb2001. Quality and quantity of equipments have considerably improved. It is a good place to have a work out . And I will be glad to recommend it . Quality of service is very excellent.

Horrible, no child care for the Summer months. Manager, Noreen is unprofessional (breasts hanging out, rude language, poor customer service.) Fees are extremely high 249 enrollment for for a place with no amenities. And very rude to different ethnic backgrounds. I am of Indian heritage and I was talked down too for obvious reasons by Noreen. For this reason alone Xtreme Fitness should be boycott!

Been customer for 2 months now. They have specials on january 31st 09 like not to charge membership fee. Me and my colleague signed up. We were able to spin a wheel where I got my 1 month free. Now been told this cannot be used as it was for new members ?

Dumbest excuse ever heard as this was for every member who joined that day OR once you made a member do not care about them any more.

Fitness center is great till you end up issues with membership .

First of all, this club never has classes in session because of the lack of attendees. They cancel classes last minute all the time.

Second of all, the initial membership deposit is more expensive than LA Fitness and LA Fitness has a pool, raquet ball courts, and a great atmosphere.
Xtreme Fitness always feels like a boring lame office meeting. Everyone I see there looks like the walking dead.

LASTLY, the management is money hungry and unreasonable.
The club charged me a yearly maintenance fee on the day of my cancellation because the yearly maintenance charge falls on a day during my last 60 days of membership. (When you cancel you still have to pay for 60 days of membership under the contract terms)

Can you believe that?! I'm supposed to pay for a year's maintenance fee for upkeep of the equipment that I won't be any where near or using because
" technically you're still a member during that two month period".
THIS IS CRAZY BAD BUSINESS! WHAT A FREAKIN' RIP OFF !!!
YOU' RE GOING TO CLOSE DOWN IF YOU DON'T CHANGE YOUR POLICIES. I GUARANTEE. WATCH OUT XTREME FITNESS the recessions gonna get you.

Before I start this review, I would like to mention that I have been able to compare many different gyms (corporate and privately owned). I've been a member of many gyms and also work as a personal trainer, so I am familiar with the ins and outs of the fitness business. Please take this review very seriously.

This gym is very sneaky. There are hidden fees in the contract and they do not explain them to you, nor do they notify you when they deduct money from your account for anything other than your membership fee. The management is very nasty and not very accommodating to their members. The facility is not taken care of. They claim to have state of the art equipment, when they actually don't. Their spin classes are taught by videos most of the time. When they had the option of putting in a pool, they opted to build an indoor turf field which never gets used. The reasoning I got when I asked why they chose not to add a pool was, "pools attract old wrinklies and we don't want that kind of clientele." I am a lot younger than the crowd they were referring to, but nonetheless was still offended. They don't provide any services such as towels (even the YMCA provides towels), or hair dryers. The sauna doesn't get hot, even when you've had it on for 3 hours (I checked). Most fitness facilities have televisions on all of their cardio equipment, but this facility does not. They only keep a few TVs hanging high up where no one can even really watch them. The only thing they have going for them is the fact that they are the only fitness center close to my home. and the only reason why I am a member is because my contract hasn't expired yet. I am hoping that by writing this review, Xtreme Fitness Edison will see it and clean up their act; otherwise they will lose more and more members. Don't sign up for this gym unless you like wasting your money. If anyone ever told me that all gyms have hidden fees and to suck it up I would say that they are crazy. I don't know about you, but I personally work hard for my money and if I'm going to use it to pay for a fitness center, I expect the center to at least be up to par. I understand that Xtreme is a businees, but they should learn to conduct their business with a little honesty. They'd be surprised how many more members they would get. Don't let your fitness facility take advantage of you.

Most of the practices mentioned in the other review are common among all gyms. It's a competitive business and they have to hard sell. At least Xtreme doesn't insult you! When I visited a WOW gym and expressed concerns about traffic, the salesman said I "wasn't serious about working out"
The bottom line for a gym is (1) are they convenient to my work or home? (2) do they have equipment/classes that meet my needs? and (3) are they open when I need them to be? That's true for any gym. They will all try to sell you a membership. The question is, is that gym worth it? Xtreme is convenient, is open 5 -11 weekdays, has lots of equipment, has spin, zumba and other clasesm and pretty good personal trainers. If they meet the 3 tests for you, then put up with the hard sell, because Bally's WOW and LA Fitness are going to treat you the same. I belong to this gym and it's fine.

Extreme Fitness is located right next to where I live in Edison, New Jersey. The gym is not bad in terms of equipment and you don't normally have to wait in line to work out. However, this place is in the business of making money out of you. First of all, management sucks. They have new people at the front desk every other week. They are the most inflexible management. First off, when you sign up, they will give you a $100 "Discount" coupon which they will say is for "Special Customers" only to lure you and then make a big deal of it. Every single person in that gym gets that coupon. Then they will charge you extremely high for registration, and for the first and last month. If you have to take a break from the gym, they will put your account on hold. You have to give them a 60 day notice to before you quit, but if the 60 days ends even 1 day after your billing cycle, they will charge you full for the remaining month even if you actually quit more than a month back. One guy from management, Chris, would recommend not wasting your time speaking to him. LA Fitness is right around the corner. They are much cheaper, far more many facilities, professional and provide big corporate discounts. So do yourselves a favor - stay extremely far away from this gym.
