I've belonged to AW in Oakland since 1992. (I enjoy taking classes rather than the treadmills/ellipticals). The step classes used to be AWESOME - the instructors were great, and they had 5:30pm step four days a week. There was a large 'following' of working women who came religiously for these challenging classes. Now, step is offered once a week at 5:30pm - and it's not even a FULL hour of step - other half is sculpt. It's BASIC step, low music, not exciting at all. I have actually yawned during the class and had to go back to the treadmills to get my heartrate up high enough. I keep continuing my membership only because it's right near where I work and convenient. But as the membership prices go up, I feel I'm getting less out of the classes.
As for the air conditioning in the summer - I don't think that it has EVER worked right in all these years. I'm waiting for someone to drop dead from overheating.
