I love Wilkes because you can't find their sandwiches anywhere else. Sometimes they have specials that even in other delis you can't find. I just wish their stuff didn't cost so much.

Wilkes Deli has been a Ridgewood staple ever since I can remember. Although this privately-owned deli has several locations, I frequented the Deli located on East Glen Avenue. If traffic is any indication, so do many others during the day. This is one popular deli and has been for years.

Wilkes has fresh, delicious cold cuts, side salads (the potato salad is a family recipe and so yummy), and specialty prepared meals, sandwiches, and desserts. The interior is small but not overcrowded. The shelves are stocked with staples like canned goods and pastas in case you need to pick up a few market items. The real draw is the fresh coffee, the made-to-order sandwiches, and the desserts. Everything is made with premium ingredients and they don't scrimp on filling or meats if you request a sandwich made.

For years they have made a fantastic ham and cheese sandwich on rye bread with russian dressing that is out of this world. Combined with some potato salad, and I am in Deli heaven.

Wilkes is very popular--especially at lunch rushes. Parking is on the street, so if you don't want to compete for a coveted spot, park around the corner--but not for more than 15 minutes.

PROS: Delicious food, premium ingredients.
CONS:
