I've been coming here for lunch and dinner for over 15yrs. Food is great. Pricing has now become out of sight don't know if I'll continue.

I'm thinking the fish, ribs come from dinosaur sized animals.

The prices are too high, it's almost like they're saying well we charge you this much because each plate can feed 3 grown man but problem is I didn't ask to feed 3 grown man, just one person. I've been to plenty of Newark/Ironbound restaurants that don't charge as much as them but also for the ones that do charge as much - the food tasted so incredible that I couldn't complain.

The food tastes average overall. The meats/fish (blackened swordfish!) are DELICIOUS! But the rice, etc are just o.k. And you can blame that review on all the other great Spanish Restaurants in NJ. They all do such a great job that when you taste rice (paella) that's just average you end up disappointed.

The Service was the worst I have ever seen. The waitress was lazy cold and didn't care about us. She had her favorites and it was noticeable. I will never go back there again. Its nice they have big portions but that does not make a good restaurant. I almost walked out with my family. My kids were actually offended with this waitress attitude. I would rather travel to Newark to the Iron Bound section and to "Spain"

Pros: Rice was good

Unfortunately, I did not feel that it is either unique or special. I have had better , the soup served was chicken noodle, very unusual for Spanish menu. I enjoyed my entree which was paella and my partner had a steak that was very good. The server, a woman, was not at all interested in doing her job. She finally came to get the plate with the discarded shells from the paella, but never brought back a new one! The service leaves much to be desired

Been going for years. Vinny the owner is a great guy as well as his main waiter Juan. The food is always great as well as the leftovers the next day. Highly recommended.

unfriendly waitress, rude manager, ordered two lb. lobster,it was tough,so waitress took it back, manager came over and said I could not get another one, because he said they are all cooked the same, .[he said] I am the only one who had a problem, mine was tough I said, because it was....treated me very badly..used to be my favorite place..notice i said used to be. you don't get a warm friendly welcome, and the manager attacks you
for his tough, overcooked lobster..and what nerve to actually tell me that I can't have another one.I can go elsewhere and be treated better, and cost less.

Superb food, always large portions. Lobster is on the menut as two 1 1/4 lb, they give you THREE always. Prime rib is the best I've ever had. One person is unable to eat all of it. The wait staff is ok, a few have attitudes but other than that I give them 5 stars for their food.

Consider splitting a meal of prime rib or their steaks as they are massive yet delicious. ($5 plate share charge.)

Sunday nights are better than Fri or Sat, a short wait if any.

I recommend the Lobster, Prime Rib and appetizers in garlic sauce. No potatos, their own fried chips. If you love a baked potato you won't get it there. I don't care but have a stepdad that does.

A nice salad is included with any entree, something I find rare in some of the better Bergen County restaurants today.

Enjoy! I always do. :)

We have been going to El Cid's for many years and find the food very consistant. The prices are reasonable for the large quantities, and their blue cheese dressing is the best. Lunch is a good value if you want to avoid the crowds and still have a great meal at a good price. The sangria is very good and overall, we go about once a week. I would recommend it during a week night.

Plan on waiting 45-hour to get a table at this place especially on the weekends!!! The wait staff is always in a hurry & can come across as being rude if you take up too much of their time.

We have come here a few times over the years. The food is good, they give you alot of it but I would say a little over priced, definitely quantity over quality.

Red Sangria is delicious & the homemade blue cheese dressing is out of this world. Both are highly recommended!!

There are several Portugese/Spanish restaurants in northern NJ that I would prefer to go to over El Cid but this is really the most conveniently located for us.

The first two times I went here were amazing. Food was delicious, portions were huge, etc. It was simply going to be my favorite place to go. However, that all changed the next time I went.

First off, we had a very rude waitress who disrespected my mother's hearing problem. She literally yelled into her ear because my mother could not understand what she was saying.

Now I wouldn't let that hamper me and I enjoyed another tasty meal that included some lobster. However, ordering that piece of fish was a dire mistake. I came home, and about an hour later I was insanely sick to my stomach. I've never had a piece of fish that effected my stomach like what it did to me for that night. I'm never going back because of that, I just can't trust them. It's mad expensive too.

El Cid is our favorite restaurant. The food is unbelievable and the portions are huge! The lobster is to die for! This place is a must. All entrees are server with homemade papas (potato chips), rice, soup or salad, and bread! The steaks are huge! Even the hungriest man can't finish the size of there steaks. This place is a must to visit..and don't forget to order the sangria! Incase you want to know..the prices are just right too! What else can u ask for.

Tiny portions, overpriced entrees and with lots of other choices why waste your money here.
Paella is served in a tiny dish, and priced the same as other restaurants dishes that serve
2-3 times as much food. Service is below average.

When I know we're eating at El Cid I don't eat all day. Seriously. The portions are so large you have to prepare for this like an athlete.

They offer up beef that looks like dinosaur. It never fails when it comes to your table everyone stares. I usually get the veal-they serve me several medallions (one or two I consumer, the rest goes home). They surround your veal with thin baked slivers of what look like potatoe chip but aren't. I get the dark chocolate mousse for desert that always wires me up for the nite.

This is a huge place, the ambience is very pelasant. There are rooms upstairs and down so you never feel like you're eating with a crowd.

Excellent food, enormous portions, my favorite place to dine.

PROS: Excellent, excellent food
CONS: None

The prices are a little high (entrees $20-25), but the quality is definitely worth it. The meats are amazing. I had the veal prepared with sherry and chopped almond sauce -- it was soft and flavorful. Someone else had the special rib eyed steak also very tastefully prepared and soft. Another had the tenderloin cut-- it was like butter...the meat melted right in your mouth. Each entree was served with a large side of delicious Spanish rice, veggies, and homemade Spanish french-fries. We also had an order of the clams casino and an order of escargots. Although both appetizer selections were delicious, however to save money I suggest sticking with just the entrees. The portions are large and plentiful. The Sangria was refreshing but I definitely had better. If you are cost conscious, it is the best choice from the drink menu. A large pitcher is about $21.

You don't need to go to Newark to enjoy the finest Spanish cusine in North Jersey. El Cid is wonderful in all capacities...huge portions, wonderfully seasoned food, tasty sangria, and relatively inexpensive. I have been there with family, friends, and on romantic dates....great for any occassion and I have yet to be dissapointed in the quality of the food or it's service. Garlic afficionados will fall in love with the flavor of all of El Cid's dishes.
