I like Sports Authority but I never go there looking for that great a discount outside of the occasional non embarrassing athletic shoe style. It's usually my last stop before surrendering to nearby Globe Shoes' prices. I was just there on Monday February 28th, and was pleased to find sneakers in my 4E width and size. I'm not likely to be leaping tall buildings in a single bound, so $50 is higher than I usually like to pay, but then, I'm stuck in the 80s, and think it's a tragedy to pay more than $30-$35 for any brand name sneakers, even with all leather uppers. I had caught a decent pair of all leather Avias there for the unheard of sale price of 25 bucks a couple years ago, and was still wearing them yesterday, hoping lightning would strike twice.

The attendant was very nice - the inspiration to write this review. It's rare these days to find a retail sales person that is personable enough to be open to engage in just enough banter to round out the sale, and be knowledgeable about the state of the state in athletic shoes to boot! He was right - the New Balance WAS the most comfortable of the wide width varieties. It's impossible to hit every shoe outlet when looking for some decent kicks. Having duck feet makes it harder. Many stores offer a token selection of wider widths. I recommend this Sports Authority as one of the stops in your search.

The Sports Authority in Paramus, NJ, is conveniently located shortly off of Route 17 and in close proximity to the Paramus Park Mall. I like shopping here when my son requires sneakers or sports footwear--they have a large selection of shoes from which to select.

Depending on the season, they will have more stock available. If there is a sport going on--such as soccer, baseball, etc.--often the shoes you need will be out of stock. It is primarily a self-serve shoe area, so you browse the aisles yourself to find the size or style you need. The store is well-staffed in case you need to get a pair of shoes down from a high shelf. They carry all of the major brands and have shoes for the whole family.

In addition, this store sells exercise equipment, workout clothing, hats, sports equipment--and the prices are reasonable, especially if there is a sale. I have purchased NY Yankees merchandise there as well as baseball uniform clothes and equipment without breaking the bank.

The sheer quantity of items for sale and the helpful staff make Sports Authority one spot I always visit during my son's athletic seasons.

PROS: Good location with ample parking; prices reasonable.
CONS: Sometimes shoes out of stock.
