Went to a wedding here and the food was solid. Wedding hall food is usually crap, but I actually enjoyed the food, the place was clean and the service was very good. I even saw Mr. Manzo, and he himself served me calamari at cocktail hour

I have had 2 parties here so far, My mothers 80th in 2013 and my 40th in 2014. I also have two other parties scheduled for this year already. Let me start by saying, the food is fantastic. The selection, amount and quality is tremendous.

Picture a place that's outdated and run down, has mediocre food, and a staff that couldn't care less. That's The Brownstone. The greedy owner has gotten wealthy by taking money from people who apparently don't know any better. Anyone who has an event here is a clueless. Don't subject your guests to this awful place, and don't give the owner one more dime.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Let me start off by saying I had no idea who Albert Manzo was until after I met with him and went home and looked up reviews about him. I wanted to see if I was the only one who had a bad experience, but I was not. I went in for a tour to possibly have my wedding at The Brownstone. First thing we noticed was that there were FOUR parties going on at the same time and the music was SO loud. After we waited about 15 minutes to meet with Manzo he was nothing but rude and unprofessional. There were four other people in the office watching the football game on the TV. I thought this was SO rude. I have never met with a manager with anyone else in the room like that. Another thing he did not explain any of the packages at all. He just said this is what we have. HE did not even try to sell the place to us. My fianc and I felt as if we were being judged the entire time we were sitting there. I felt so disrespected. WE have been to eight other banquet halls before this and not one of them treated us as Manzo did. He is so rude, disrespectful and ungrateful. He just seemed like he was in a rush to get us out. Not only that I would never consider having my wedding there because the rooms did not seem taken care of and they seemed smaller than the ones we previously seen at other places for the same price!!! The walls were dirty and gross. If you want to be treated rude and unfairly then by all means go talk to Albert! But I suggest staying away!!

I've been in the entertainment industry for 20+ years and this is the ONLY facility in the tri-state area where I refuse to work at. It is THAT bad there! I have turned down a multitude of jobs over the years where I was asked to work as a result of those events being held at the Brownstone. I also have a number of associates who are TOP performers in their field that have the EXACT same policy regarding this pit. The joke in my business among other company owners when asked if a place is bad to work at is this question: "Is it Brownstone-esque'?" (Meaning it is the benchmark for a horrible facility) I highly recommend that you research the reviews on non-biased sites such as this one before paying to have your special day ruined. (Not sites such as the knot, wedding wire, etc. where positive reviews can be bought or manipulated.) I've heard from everyone that has done business with them say that they offer a fairly good price for events but as the old saying goes; you get what you pay for. That is an understatement when it comes to this place. I wish this site offered an option to give negative stars for ratings because they would get a negative 5 rating from me!

All on thread.... the place is a dump. If you are white trash from Lodi you get married there. Come on what do you expect, it's in Paterson the biggest garbage dump in NJ besides Camden. The food sucks, the people are guido mongoloids who run it. .. I read something about a stray cat, I am suprised you did not see a crack dealer!!!

My fiance and I looked at the Brownstone today....DISGUSTING! The location was awful....ghetto.....We were definitelty not greeted with drinks and trays for food as previously stated by another reviewer. Needless to say we will never go back. There was absolutely no parking and the valet did not even try to help us even after telling them we had an appointment. We met with Al and he had nothing ready for us....didn't even stand up to greet us or shake our hands. He printed out several different menus and explained them to us and then gave us a tour. He told us he didnt understand why they booked an appointment for today because he had nothing to show us....there were no weddings planned. We walked outside to the Conservatory and as we passed the brickwall on the side of the building there was a stray cat eating a can of tuna someone dumped on the wall. Al saw the cat there and didnt shoo the cat away, he simply looked and continued on. We counted 5 stray cats running around. The rest of the tour was unimpressive. There were water stains and dripping water. It smelled fishy. There were soo many people in and out of places and was very crowded. No privacy between functions.
When we got back to his office he refused to give me prices and dates because I do not have a solid date yet. I told him I wanted prices for February 2012-April 2012. Then he proceeded to tell me that if other venues were telling me they had limited dates because they were already booked, they were lying. All the other places gladly gave me prices and available dates.
Not impressed....fame has gone to their heads.

Okay I need to speak the truth. I experienced and incident at the Brownstone and at first was very disappointed. We held our biggest fundraiser (tricky tray) and at the end of the night, someone walked off with one of our grand prizes a laptop and printer. THANK YOU TO THE BROWNSTONE'S VIDEO SURVELIANCE WE WERE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE INDIVIDUAL. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP IN SOLVING THIS MYSTERY.

I think its hysterical that the bad reviews of the Brownstone only seem to be in the last few years that the Housewives have been on tv. Have any of you bad reviewers actually been to the Brownstone? The service and food are exceptional, the place is beautiful. When I went to meet with one of the owners to discuss the possibility of having my wedding there, he offered us drinks and brought out trays of food. We were treated with the utmost respect. Their prices are completely reasonable, we had visited 2 places that weren't nearly as nice and the Brownstone's prices were cheaper and we were offered more! Needless to say, we booked our wedding there... Everyone we have spoken too (including vendors) have said what a great choice we have made. Please don't listen to the bad reviews, try the Brownstone for yourself, I promise you, you won't be disappointed!

Poor service, dirty restrooms, lousy food, very over priced. Our luncheon for around 100 people & had three non-english speaking waiters. I saw no type of management personnel. For $35 per person we should have had much tastier fare. The ziti was evidently left over from another dinner, and it was quite an ordeal to get enough food to serve the 12 people per table setting. We were told the upstairs restrooms were out of order and the many seniors in our group were sent to the basement to use the facilities.
The quality of the Brownstone has been declining over the years and is about close to the bottom as can be.
PLEASE,PLEASE TAKE THE SALT SHAKER OUT OF THAT COOKS HANDS!

The Brownstone is FABULOUS!!!! I had my wedding reception there on Aug 14, 2010 and it was the most amazing wedding, We met with Albert on three occassions and on all three occassions he was kind and helpful. My only complaint was that we were never called for a food tasting so my mom and in-laws never got to taste the food beforehand. On the other hand, Albert gave my father, husband and myself dinner while we decided to book or not. That made our final decision...because the food was so good. At the wedding, the staff was more than I could ever have asked for. My husband and I were catered to every second of the night. They were always there and had everything I could have imagined before I even asked. I did not have to ask for anything throughout the night. I am friends with my florist who not only did my floral arrangements but was a guest as well. He stated the kitchens are clean and staff has always been kind to him. The food was amazing and our family has not stopped talking about the food quality and quantity. Favorites were the lamb chops, fresh mozz, filet and sea bass. If you want a perfect wedding choose the Brownstone. I would definitely have another event there!!!

As part of the team providing photography & music for a committment ceremony recently held at The Brownstone, I was astonished by the open distain and hostility the staff exhibited toward, not just us, but particularly toward the couple.
We were all treated like some unsavory characters they wanted kept hidden from a prying public eye.
Few, if any, of the pre-ceremony accommodations promised the couple were fulfilled.
Since The Brownstone accepted the couple's money, they were obliged to honor the contract.
Regardless of your lifestyle, if you are planning a catered event, DO NOT look to the prejudiced, hypocritical Brownstone in Patterson, NJ.

Worst place ever!!!! I called The Brownstone to first make an appointment with the banquet manager. I was told an appointment was not necessary, however I wanted to make sure someone would be there since it would be a 45 minute drive for me to get there. The rude woman on the phone assured me that someone would be available however I may have to wait a few minutes. I said that was fine. When I got there, the same rude woman asked me if I had an appointment! I told her I was told BY HER that I did not need one. She told me to wait while she got the banquet manager. 10 minutes later, I was ushered to the office and proceeded to speak with him. He was so unprofessional, he was constantly suffling papers on his desk never looking up at me. He also gave me a different price from which was advertised for a sweet 16 event. There were also 2 other workers in the office swearing back and forth to each other and talking about clients. After 15 minutes, I had enough and left. My biggest regret is that I will never get that 15 minutes back of my time.

We went to the Brownstone for the second visit and were utterly disappointed. The man I met with gave us totally different prices from the first meeting we had with him and implied we were lying. He contradicted himself multiple times and was even rude by playing with his watch while my mother was asking him a question. If you don't know someone there or don't drop a name, they treat you very different. Unfortunately, the food is amazing, but I would never trust the service there on the most important day of my life. They treat you like a number. I'm assuming since the show is more popular, they figure that they will be booked no matter what, so they don't have to impress you.
Lastly, it's like a factory there. As much as they tell you that it doesn't matter that there's multiple events going on, it does!
Thank god we didn't book it there.

I SET UP FOR MY OWN WEDDING! They have NO idea what they are doing here, they run way too much stuff at once and don't care what you have to say. Got there 15 minutes before my reception was to begin and there were NO centerpieces! My guests were arriving and I was setting up, missed taking pictures- DIDNT EVEN GET A SORRY!!!! The food is not that great. The prices are on the lower end because you get the lower end. Go to the Tides or better yet Portobello in Oakland! Disgusting waste of time and money here.

Oh and one more thing: THEY ALL GIVE DIFFERENT PRICES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Test it for yourself.

I noticed some negative review about interaction with management and those trying to book a room. My review is based on having attended a wedding there. My cousin was getting married and this was by FAR one of the best weddings I went to. The food was fantastic and the cocktail hour was beyond; with the most wonderful seafood and amazing assortments. The atrium was beautiful. A really beautiful and well run place. I loved it. As an FYI...I am not as familiar with others of the NJ area but the area where they are located seemed not the safest. However; all is done inside parking etc. and once you are in there it is one of the best catering halls I have been to.

This is the worst run bussiness I have ever had the displeasure to work with. Several years ago I booked a reservation for their Easter buffet. I dealt with Tommy one of the ownerns that time. He quoted me a price of $28 per person for the buffet. When we arrived we were delighted by the food display, and the food was good. Then my credit card bill arrived, and I found I had been billed twice for the same meal. Once at $33 a person, and once at $35 a person. I phoned the brownstone to resolve the matter, and was told that since Tommy took the reservation I would have to speak to him. Well after 3 weeks of making phone calls and leaving messages, I had had it and threated to phone the better bussiness breau. It wasn't till then did he decide to resolve the matter. Somthing that should have been done with one call.

This past Easter we decided to give them another chance.
I reserved seating for 9 in February. I made a POINT of telling the girl who took the reservation of my last experience, and confirmed our reservation for 9 at 2 p.m. on Easter Sunday.
Well the week before Easter I called to comfirm, and was told by the first person they couldn't find the reservation. She passed be on to the next person, and then to the next person, and finally to Albert the owner. He informed me that they had no reservation for me, and that they were all booked up. I told him that this was the second strike against them. His response was OF THE 2,000 PEOPLE WHO WERE COMING TO THE BUFFET IF ONE FELL THROUGH THE CROWDS WHAT OF IT.When I said what was I to do now he said give me your phone number I'll see what I can do, and call you back. I'M STILL WAITING FOR A CALL BACK. Fortunatley I was able to make a reservation at The Bottagra in Hawthorne, where the owner Robert did everthing he could to accomadate me, and immediatley called me back.
IF YOU EXPECT GOOD SERVICE, AND GOOD BUSSINESS PRACTICES ,DON'T CHOOSE THE BROWNSTONE. YOU WILL CERTAINLY BE DISSAPOINTED.

We recently held a bridal shower at The Brownstone and it couldn't have gone better. The staff was extremely helpful and brought us extra tables to set up favors for the guests. They were also courteous throughout the event asking if I needed anything of if there was some way they could help. And the food was DELICIOUS! Their pierogies, penne with vodka, eggplant rollatini, and beef tips pizzaiola were incredible. The only trouble is there's too much great food on the menu to choose from!
The Brownstone helped make my sister's bridal shower an elegant and successful event.

What a wonderful Place! Sure the location is not great but the food and service is exellent! The first person i met was Milley! She helped me with directions back home when i walked in. The food OUT OF THIS WORLD! Service great! as i sat down for dinner Luke the asst walked over to each table making sure the food was ok for everone. He took his time table by table. Making sure the meat was cooked ok for everyone. I could not finish mine so luke wrapped it up for me to go. I must say the staff was great!! I left with a smile on my face! If your ever there! ask for miley of Luke they will take great care of you..

Big fat gray haired guy cursed my videographer and DJ, tried to steal equipment, they were rushed out of the room for another party after only 15 minutes and they were threatened with violence. I heard noise from the other parties going on. Meal was no better than hospital food. DO NOT HIRE THESE BROWNSTONE PIGS.

This place is nothing more than a factory. It looks nice - but the service and food are horrible. First off it took FOREVER to even find out if they had our date available. We made several phone calls but evidently the ONE person who checks the book was never available. I find them to be rude on the phone. We deiced not to book our event there. SInce then we have been at the Brownstone for various events. At one event, our food was over an hour late coming out and when it fianally did come out many people's chicken was RAW on the inside. The room next to us had a loud DJ which made it impossible to hear our speaker.

My suggestion is to stay away form this DUMP!

I thought is horrible driving there and the place was pretty but not what I expected, especially the roaches in the bathroom,by the way no one did anything about not even tried to.i personally spoke to luke and I stated that i wanted to speak to caroline and I was very upset and he told me I was rude Isn't that just wonderful,so my experience there will nver be recommended to anyone I know.not mention you need a police escort to get to the place, also the stsff was so rude it was unbelievable you would think they be concerned about someone seeing roaches I mean really if they are in the bathroom they are most likely in the kitchen and luke the asst. did not even care or check, his exact words were I am only an opinon, but his is not good at what he does cause my opinon leads to another along with the Health dept, but he was rude and so was the hostess. It is a shame that people don't care about anyone but themselves

In this area, the Tides is amazing, the Paris Inn, and Victor's Chateau. I have officiated at weddings at all of them, and their attention to detail and care to their clients is unparalleled.

I had heard wonderful things about The Brownstone and when I got there for a bridal consultation, I as completely let down. Overcrowded is not the word for this place and the decor is very undesirable. The staff was unprofessional and rude! While we were meeting with the OWNER, his twenty-something relatives where cursing and telling inappropriate stories right behind us. TVs were also blasting throughout the office during our consultation. For the fear of being deemed a Bridezilla, I endured a most uncomfortable situation. No bride deserves this treatment!!!!

These people just catered an off-site event for me last weekend and while the food was excellent, the service and management is AWFUL. Definitely not worth working with these people. They're rude and arrogant and unorganized. I'm planning a wedding right now myself (thankfully NOT here) and would NEVER recommend this place. BRIDES BEWARE!

I have have been to many functions at The Brownstone, and have enjoyed the affair as well as the food. However, when I tried to book the glass atrium room for a bridal shower, I ran into some trouble. Initially, I was told the room was available for my date, and over the phone we were given a great price for a brunch event. Days later, when I was finally able to get someone on the phone about signing a contract, the manager was rude and insisted that I pay more per plate because now someone else was interested in the room for a wedding the same afternoon as my shower. More or less, he wanted to charge me more per guest because by booking my event he would lose out on a big ticket wedding - even though I had agreed to give him my business first. This was not really fair at all, but we negotiated a little. We really wanted the glass atrium room, so we agreed to pay a dollar a head more and offered to sign a contract. Needless to say, when it came time to come in and sign the contract, he wanted to charge us more money still. At this point we were so disappointed by the way we were being treated that we refused to give them any of our business at all. I thought their manager acted like a bully and was totally unprofessional. I do not feel that anyone should patron a place that has such complete disregard for their clients.

I had very similar experience as well, they are just so busy that they dont even care about getting your business. Then my friend and I went to see the grand opening of Riverside Manor last week and let me tell you,it is beautiful, elegant and much more intimate. Met with the Owners and Manager and booked my wedding for this June. The manager treated us dinner and let us sample all the food in our package. If you are considering having a more intimate affair, go check the place out. Here's their phone # 973-689-6360 and talk to Scott. He was very polite and very helpfull.

I'm getting married in 2010. I made an appt with the Brownstone b/c friends had told me how great they were. When we arrived there were four parties/ events going on. When we entered the office there were five guys sitting in the middle of the office watching the football game. The guy started going over the packages they have but he wasn't all into it, he just kept looking at the tv. I couldn't believe he was watching the game while he's meeting with us. Then he attempted to show us around, I say attempted b/c we couldn't really see the rooms or the garden b/c other parties were going on. I think it was very unprofessional. He should've scheduled us to come on a day where there aren't as many parties or before the parties start. And second he shouldn't have been watching the game or had people in his office watching the game while he was meeting with us. He did tell us we should make a second appt so we can see the brownstone when other parties are going one (but shouldn't he have told us to come on a day that wasn't crazy from the beginning).
The thing that made it worse when i asked if there were usually several parties at one time (my concern being if my wedding is going on will i hear music from other parites, is there one restroom for the whole place, etc; I'm not snobby enough to think i'm the only bride but its a simple question). instead of letting me know that the room i liked had its own restroom, he proceeded to tell me that i wouldn't find another place a beautiful for the same price that did one party a day, etc. That they are well known for their decor and food. He said it in such an arrogant why and kept making it seem like this was the first place I've looked at. I had actually been to 7 places. And i had found several that were gorgeous, and cheaper then what the brownstone offered, also the managers at those places were friendly and didn't act as if i was wasting their time.
The only reason i looked at the Brownstone was based on recommendations from a friend who went to a wedding there.
As they say first impressions are everything, Needless to say I will definitely not be booking with the Brownstone.

Nice building and food ok. The big problem is the noise level from other parties. They usually hold 4 to 6 events at a time. Last time I was there I heard our music was drowned out by other parties, and this was an early afternoon affair. Also parking is horrible, when they are fully booked it is impossible to find a place to park. I would agree with the above post about poor service by management. The last time we were there it was an event we held. It was a small function about 60 people and found it difficult to get calls returned by anyone. The reason they are so busy is that there are not many places like it near by to hold functions. Bottom line I would not hold an event there, I would recommend to someone wanting to hold a special event like a wedding to think twice. You may wind up listening to another party's music all night.

You might want to consider The Paris Inn in Wayne. A short drive from there and had good service there. I am not sure about the price and had some mixed reviews on here but may be worth checking out.

I was told that the night I wanted for my wedding was available so I made an appointment to go in.Get there, the owner tells me that the place was actually reserved by someone who they believed would be a no-show. I was surprised to hear this since he said no such thing on the phone. Still, I loved the place and he told me the likelihood of it being available was 95%. He said by the next day noon time he would know for sure whether or not it was available for me. I was asked to call him after 2pm to find out. I explained to him how important it is for me to find out because getting the location was crucial considering the fact that there wasn't much time left. I called the next day , the day afer then a couple of days after that.....I made a third and final call. I explained to the receptionist that it was urgent that I find out if a specific date was available. She said she saw my name in the list of messages that he had already received. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY CALL FROM THE OWNER OR ANYONE AT THE BROWNSTONE.There's something kind of heartless about not even calling me back to tell me that the place was unavailable.

My fiance and his mom highly recommended this place to us, as they attended a few functions there and had a great time. The best part was the food. So we scheduled an appointment to meet with a banquet manager. The bad thing is that our appointment was for 9pm on a Tuesday night, and we live in NY.

When we got there, there was a tricky tray auction happening. So the place was packed. However, the staff was friendly and offered us something to drink.

We met with a lovely banquet manager who showed up around. I loved the various rooms, but it was just too busy for my tastes. Not to mention, I wasn't keen on having guests from NY driving through Paterson late at night.

Nevertheless, the Brownstone had so much to offer at a great price. I would have definitely considered it more if the majority of our guests weren't from NY, but from NJ.

However, if I get invited to an event there, I'll definitely attend. I love the layout and design!

PROS: Friendly staff, Price, A lot to offer
CONS: Busy, Not in the best location

I have been to the Brownstone for two different types of events. One was a Wedding Rehersal Dinner and the other was for a Beef Steak Dinner. Both of the times were good experiences. Both times I sat in the room with all the glass windows (forget what its called). Its so nice back there, alittle chilly but nice! The food is excellent and the service is good too. Definitely a nice place have a party!!!

I have been to 3 weddings there with a good amount of time between them. It's alittle too crowded for me. I like more of the one evernt at a time type of places. The food was always good, the service was also good. I didn't like that there was too many parties at the brownstone each time. Once we went into the wrong room after going to hte bathroom... we got lost. Overall, it really does depend what you like.

PROS: good food, friendly enough
